| Wrathamon04-12-05, 07:55 PM | I just wanted to say that I made the switch! I converted. Eberron is a perfect place to start a D&D game in. It has a lot of cool and fun hooks and subtle intricacies that really help new players get into character and the fun of adventure. I just started a new gaming group and over half of the players are new to the game and they love it and I found it much easier to get them excited than using the other campaign worlds that I normally run in the past. I was surprised, I didnt think I would like it, but I did. I am curious where are others starting their campaigns in? Are most doing the Sharn thing? |
| Streamweaver04-12-05, 08:16 PM | I'm using Sharn. The only real source material that's come out has been for it so why fight it was my thinking. It's an interesting place to set the game for sure. |
| rwarner370104-12-05, 09:20 PM | I followed the modules with my first group and then they kinda broke up in Xen'drik and went their seperate ways. My second group started in Aundair with the help of the Korranberg Chronicle. |
| Chiba_Monkey04-12-05, 09:25 PM | I'll be asking my player what kind of game they want to play. If they wants woodsy, we'll start in Eldeen Reaches. They want Pirates, we'll be in Lhazaar Principalities. Precluding a single-race group (i.e. all Valenar elves, or all goblinoids), I'll otherwise start in Sharn as a default. So much to go from there. Politics, intrigue, crime, monsters, etc. And it's the platform for moving a campaign to Xen'drik. |

I was surprised, I didnt think I would like it, but I did. I am curious where are others starting their campaigns in? Are most doing the Sharn thing? I started my game right off in Xen'drik, to start things with the traditional dungeon-crawl game before easing into intrigue and noir. They did the "find ancient artifacts" thing, and got caught up with some of the other power groups seeking the same things. They discovered from wrongdoing amongst the treasure-seekers and are now back on the mainland trying to uncover the entire sinister plot. I decided not to run the game in Sharn, although I have the sourcebook and will likely do so sometime in the future. They've been there, had an encounter or two, but for the first campaign I think it is important to show them the world, do a "tour" of it. Their current task has them escorting one of the criminals they caught from the Sharn area all the way to Dreadhold by sea; they have stops in Zilargo, Valenar, and Aerenal they want to make. |
| Crimsonsun04-12-05, 10:00 PM | Our group is in the middle of the 3rd module right now, and we love it! :D Also, do not be alarmed when the House Orien courier arrives at your house with a complimentary ticket on the Lightning Rail, its a tradition for people just joining the wonderful world of Eberron :D |
| Wrathamon04-12-05, 10:30 PM | Currently, just to get a feel for the world I ran a modified Forgotten Forge. I started the game with the party in the sewers then did a flashback session to do the "how they got there" and then concluded it with some minor changes. I ran a couple other small encounters to help flesh out backgrounds and then this segwayed into Fallen Angel. I was thinking of jumping over to Shadows of the Last war since they have the old map and have established the contact. Anyone have any other suggestions? |
| PoeticJustice04-12-05, 10:39 PM | My group is currently in Karrnath, investigating on behalf of the Drunken Masters, a persecuted order of monks devoted to Olladra. Sharn though, is definetly the easiest to start. Might I reccommend you run the Forgotten Forge module from the back of the Eberron Campaign Setting? It's the best intro I've come across thus far to the setting, thanks no doubt to its author. |
| (Psi)SeveredHead04-12-05, 11:07 PM | I don't DM DnD anymore, but I still play. When Iron Lore comes out, I might DM again, or at least play DnD more enthusiastically. I've been in two one-shots and a long-running campaign (1st through 8th). In the one shots, I've been a human wizard and a warforged fighter (1st and 15th, the latter having DR 4/adamantium). In the long-running campaign, I'm a shifter rogue. In an online campaign, I'm a 3rd-level human fighter with the Mark of Handling. (A special one, as it gives me Wild Cohort instead of the usual effects. Basically, it's the feat with a magical marker.) |
| Druid of Chaos04-13-05, 04:34 AM | I'm currently DMing a group of six 7th level PCs lost in Xen'drik due to a natural 1 on survival check to find their way back to shore we started off in Sharn and completed all of the modules that have come out so far. The Sharn sourcebook is a BIG help if you are gonna start in Sharn. |

| Altaris04-13-05, 11:47 AM | Allow me, too, to welcome you to the Wonder of Eberron! :D My group did like most here. We played through Forgotten Forge, as an intro to the setting. I loved it so much as a player that I bought the ECS that weekend, devoured the book and decided half way through it that I HAD to run it. :D So I picked up after Forgotten Forge, allowing the players to keep their same PCs and ran through SotLW. We LOVED IT! I've run a number of homebrew adventures for that group, focusing on the Dhakaani and artifacts & creatures relating to the Daelkyr War. The Party ended with a TPK deep in Xen'drik, having been narrowly defeated by an agent of the LoD (bad rolls and bad tactics that night. :weep: ) Our current group is mostly urban characters, and we play set in Sharn since the release of CoT. Much of the campaign thus far has focused on a war against Daask, mixed in with some intrigue and plot threads that will lead up to the Citadel of the Closed Circle. All in all, my players and I love it! It has all the best qualities we enjoy in our games using a system that we understand and appreciate. |
