Help! In need of a concept [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-26-05, 07:38 AM My character bit the dust, gonna need a new one for when we start up the next module (just finished WotVB). I can't seem to think of a character that embraces the feel of Eberron, so I humbly ask all of you for suggestions. Thanks.

The character is 5th level, and I rolled the following stats: 14, 13, 17, 16, 14, 14. Our group consists of a Warforged Psion who deals out massive amounts of damage, a human hexblade, and a changeling rogue.

05-26-05, 10:23 AM How about a PC with an Aberrant Dragon mark? He/she hates it and is seeking a way to get it removed. I could see a dark cleric or druid. (Not necessarily evil) the dragon mark is on a prominent part of his body that he keeps covered at all times. He may have attempted to hide the mark by getting massive body tattoos. He is very vocal about hating Dragon Marks in all forms. If any one in your party has a dragon mark then they are of course the exception. ::sly look to the side::

05-26-05, 10:28 AM How about a Warlock PC who channels the eldritch energy of the Silver Flame instead of fiendish powers? If your DM allows the alignment restriction to be taken out (its silly anyways), you can have a magically imbued character that has a lot of personality and versatility coupled with a cool concept. Think of it like Spellfire, but not stupid.

05-26-05, 01:52 PM Consider a Jorasco Halfling with the Healer class. No one elses character will be remotely capable of dieing near you.

Also breaking archetype is fun in eberron, try a half-orc or shifter wizard or a valenar elf barbarian.

05-26-05, 11:14 PM There are some good guidelines for tone, character, and "feel" of Eberron around the WotC site. Here's one:

Aside from that, there are several things that are unique to Eberron's setting (or at least emphasized in it). Some of those: :whatsthis

1. Adventuring--specifically, quests to find ancient artifacts. Obvious choice: an artifact hunter. Maybe an artificer, too.
2. The combination of medieval fantasy, swashbuckling ation and dark adventure. How about a dashing cleric who drinks hard, parties hard, and fights hard--think "Hollywood Pirate."
3. Blurred alignments. Gishsarath's Silver Flame Warlock is a great example of this (thanks, G! I'm going to steal this concept).
4. Someone drastically affected by the Last War. The simple answer is a veteran, but you could also have a PC looking for lost family, the sole survivor or his/her family, someone mentally unstable from the effects of the war, or a citizen of one country who absolutely detests his old enemies.
5. Eberron's Prestige Classes. Build toward an Eldeen Ranger or a Master Inquisitive, for example.

There are probably at least a hundred more, but I'll leave that to others to add to this list, if they want.

It looks to me like your party needs a healer. Possibly a cleric. But how about a Druid of the Children of Winter, hooking up with the party because he's trying to be the most effective by getting a reputation to exercise the teachings. The PCs are proving themselves to be effective in purging the weak (by destroying them).

Alternately, what about your warforged friend? Maybe he needs an artificer to patch his butt up.

On the same vein, how about a Swashbuckling paladin? A charming rescuer of the damsel in distress type of duelist paladin. Leather armor included. Perhaps even mutli-classed rogue/paladin for the proper "feel".

If you like your games dark, my favorite for this is a fighter 1/barb 4. The character is a veteran with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The rages are actually his panic attacks, and can be triggered in non-combat situations if someone does something that you specify (Like say, Tapping you on the shoulder, or a certain type of spell cast around you, whatever horror your company suffered in the Last War). Build the character towards Frenzied Berzerker.
