| Atch04-08-05, 04:45 PM | Hey long time viewer, first time poster... I am a DM who is currently running a group of adventures through the three modules. As it so happens, and has happened to many before, the group's cleric was racing towards Exorcist of the Silver Flame when he realized that he would lose four levels of cleric spells. This did not sit well with him so he approached me to see about creating a new character. He seemed interested in playing a Valenar elf and he wanted to keep the cleric class. I agreed and he rerolled so that I could ease him in the first module. The real question is not if the character concept will work b/c it will. The real question is his stats... he rolled 12,12,17,17,15,13. A really nice set of stats... he knows that he is going to put them into,at the very least, this order. 12 Str 12 Int 17 Wis 15 Cha but he doesn't know where to put the 13 and 15. One way gives him a 19 Dex and an 11 Con while the other gives him a 15 Dex and a 15 Con. As his DM, I want to recommend something that would work best for him as a cleric and a Valenar elf. Any suggestions? |

That should help cover the low HP. When I did it I picked the traveler as my god and got Celerity and Travel for my domains. Traveler's favored weapon is scimitar. How cool is that! Also keep in mind the movement rate of this cleric when he reall needs to he can standard move 80' per round with Expedious retreat. |

The 13 Int is in case he wants the Combat Expertise feat. If not, consider switching it with Cha or Con. The 15 Str will ensure that he will be capable of "glorious melee combat" and helps to keep the light load (and the 30 ft. movement). In the end, it all depends on his view of combat. The 15 dex/15 con setup would provide him with an all-around solid character, and would be preferable if he would like to be a melee fighter and doesn't mind taking a few swings at him. The 19 dex/10 Con will provide him with a very high AC (especially if he chooses Combat Expertise), but hit points in the low end. This should be the choice for the "in and out" type of character, fighting from afar with his bow for a while, then jumping into melee to support the main tank with healing or flanking and then get out of there fast if the opponents get too close. Feats of choice: Two-Weapon Fighting (if using Valenar Double Scimitar) Mobility (nice for the 19/10 build, but requires Dodge) Combat Expertise (yes, again. It's really useful, especially for Combat Casting (a must for the 19/10 build, or his Concentration checks will be very hard) |
