Ok, first I want to thank you for even looking at this post, it'll help me greatly. I need some of you, who are a little more familiar with Eberron, to help me with the history of my first eberron-campaign character. Here is what I have so far:
Race: Elf
Sex: Male
Class: Paladin
"Diety": The Undying Court
Alignment: (obviously) LG
he uses a scimatar, and is a native from Aerenal.

So, why did he come to Khorvaire?
I was thinking that he was sent over, to help 'clean-up' after the war. Did Aerenal send aid like this?

What part of Aerenal does he come from?
Im really not sure on this one, id like to stay away from any tatoos or skin "treatments". I see him more inner loyal to The Undying Court.

A name?!
I think that I have fun out of Elven names as of late :-/

Anything else you want to throw in would be great

well as a paladin of the undying court his main target is going to be negative energy undead so he may have been sent over to stop karrnath building up their army of undead

Most likely, a paladin of the undying court may well be sent in response to the mass creation of negative-energy undead, but 'stop' seems somewhat unlikely, and would be akin to a neutral diplomat coming to America in the wake of World War II and trying to convince the government to cease production of nuclear weaponry. Not exactly a best fit for an analogy but still, I'm sure you see what I mean.

Paladins do excel at one thing above all else, socially speaking, and that is leading by example. Perhaps the paladin was sent to promote the faith of the Undying Court as a counterpoint to the Blood of Vol. He could try to show followers of the Blood of Vol that there is a better way to transcend death than through negative energy animation. He could also show that the Karrnathi practice of reanimating their dead soldiers amounts to slavery, and that the deceased should be revered. Of course, any such missionary work would be hampered by the fact that the faith of the Undying Court is a de facto Elf-only religion, as non elves have no ancestors in the Court and they themselves have practically no chance of ever becoming one of the revered ancestors.

As an alternate possibility, perhaps the Undying Court has given him a list of certain elven bloodlines to track down, and the Court wishes him to try and minister to certain Khorvairan elves far removed from their ancient homeland. Specifically, certain elves of House Phiarlan and Thuranni. In this scenario, some of the more active members of the Court may want to establish some ties to the Elven dragonmarked houses, for whatever long term purposes such Court members may have.

As for names, Tahleth, Calavel, Nathir, Shehar, Besruil, Aelemar, Eirual

wow, thanks for the input so far!
So, right now im thinking that The Undying Court has heard rumors of Karrnath's negative energy undead, and has come to varify any rumors, and if neccessary, stop the animating of these undead, diplomaticly.

This brings me to another question, since there was no big war recently involving Aerenal, other than the ancient ones against the dragons, would there be more high level NPCs? As in, more high level Player Class NPCs than there are in Khorvaire? If so, why would they send a measly(?) 1st level paladin, as opposed to a higher level?

Thanks again, hopefuly we can answer some of these questions!

well for one. He's expendible. if he dies its not a great loss and not enough to start a war over, unless they really want to.

Other tidbits to consider...

The Queen of Karrnath is an Aerenal elf...

IIRC, Aerenal elves run mortuaries across Khorvaire...

thanks to all that have replied so far!
Ok... so Im thinking he was sent on behalf of The Undying Court, but not because he's expendable, because I wouldnt call a paladin (or any other PC class) expendable in Eberron ever. More, because Paladin are the most trustworthy people ever. In Khorvair, he sticks out more than any of the other party members (that I know of, ive only seen one other one, who is a female bard) wearing all black garmets, and a "death" mask that shows his heritage and religion.
Now, I still have one last detail that I need help on...
where in Aerenal would be a 'customary' place for a paladin to be from? I was thinking the City of the Dead... but Im not sure... any suggestions?

Definitely not the City of the Dead. The only entities that reside there are the Undying, and maybe the highest ranking Priests of Transition. Even if he was born there, it's highly unlikely that he'd be raised there.

The thing about Aerenal is that he could come from anywhere. Each family/clan has their own compound or community, and the families only interact in the cities. If you want to work with a city you might want to consider Pylas Talaer, because he would have far more experience (at least relatively) with outsiders than the average Aereni, and that would be an asset to anybody the Court would send on such a mission.
