Help with Making BBEG for an adventure [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-06-05, 12:28 AM I've been working on making an adventure where, my PC's all level 11 now will be going into Khyber to special Dragonshard. And they will be coming up against a group of Cultists of the Dragon Below, who guard the Shard, believing it will help them summon Khyber itself.

The leader of the Cultists, the BBEG, will be a Cleric of 13th level or so. By the time they fight the cult in their stronghold, the PC's should be 12th level.

I've been trying to figure out what would be interesting for a Cleric of the Dragon Below; any Prestige Classes, feats, etc.

That's what I mainly need help on. Are there any good PrC's for such a BBEG, or should I just go with a straight 13th level cleric.

Apologies if this seems somewhat jumbled and not a lot of explanation has been put into it, a little tired at the moment. If you would like any explanation of anything, just ask, and I will answer to the best of my ability,

07-06-05, 04:55 AM Hmm. I have a similar BBEG in my own campaign.

I've learned that if the villian is going to be based in the underground, the earth domain is a huge help. For a second one, dragon below or evil works well.

Feats. What feel do you want? chillingly prepared? item creation. Wands can really help for long range artillery if the party's hung up on minions.

Brute? Power attack, cleave. Possibly a barbarian too. Spend some time to buff themselves with some spells and then go into a divinely-inspired insane rage.

A hands-off villian? try thaumaturgist. d4 hit die, but minions galore. extraplanar
ones! This one can go well with the dragon below domain. (although the augment summoning you'd get with the class would be useless. still a good choice.)

Overall quicken and extend spell are probably the best choices for a cleric metamagic-wise.

If you hit 14th level with the guy, think about taking a level in hierophant. Divine reach+spontaneous inflicts = ouch.

Male Mind Flayer Aberration8/Clr5: CR 13;
OR
Male Dolgaunt Aberration2/Clr10: CR 13

I personally am running a lords of dust campaign, so I'm a little out of practice for underdark type stuff...
