I KNOW I'm not the only one who's thinking of running through parts of the Last War using Heroes of Battle! I was actually thinking of introducing the Eberron setting during the last few years of the war and having the players start knee-deep in the blood and guts, then having it all end. I think it'd be a fantastic way to make all those lost soldiers (especially warforged!) feel, well...lost. Make them FEEL their hatred for the enemy, the loss of Cyre, etc. Now, if we could get a Dragonshard or Steal this Hook covering a few major engagements or tactics. I think it'd fit very well with the release of Heroes of Battle and might even get a few Eberronites to grab the book. Heck, or beloved setting was made generic with Races of Eberron, so why not pimp generic books for OUR setting, eh? ;)

What do you all think?

If we were blessed with some information on the Last War, which parts would you prefer? I for one want to know two basic things: major battles and major tactics/strategies.

Some information on how military units were set up and what their composition was would help. The names of some of the more famous units that served the various nations and a few of the battles that they fought in towards the end of the war.

P.S. As to how unpopular you are, do you REALLY want an answer to that question? :D

You're not the only one thinking of it.

I co-wrote Heroes of Battle, and my Thursday night D&D game is set during the Last War. A lot of elements in that book are things my players have fought with, fought over, or fought against.

That said, there isn't a ton of Eberron-specific stuff in Heroes of Battle. It should all be generally useful for a Last War campaign, but you won't find a Brelish order of battle, for example.

You had a hand in that most PIMP of books? Well then, let me tip my hat to you!

As far as it having nothing Eberron specific I can see why as it would take a massive amount of a book just to cover Eberron's war systems, let alone the information on the Forgotten Realms and Greyhawk. However, perhaps you or someone else might do a couple articles on some of the Last War tactics and strategies? I'd love to know more about how certain bits and pieces (dinosaurs, the "magitech" of Eberron, undead, warforged, etc.) were used to effect.

Again let me say, "Great job!"; I love the book!

Dave any chance of you telling us some of the stuff you did for your campaign?

Maybe, some of things that your players have faced?

I made a thread about this, and no one replied. :weep:

HoB and ECS work really well together to design enemy armies easily. Droaam and Q'Barra also help with the problem of how to place nonhumanoids.

The biggest additions that are needed for the book are
1) Cannith-Made siege engines. While I'm sure eberronites would use enhanted trebuchets and the like, there's huge opportunities to have Cannith make really unique magical items for mass battles.
2) The commander aura system in HoB should be adapted so that some auras are granted based on region of origin rather than alignment. Archery Commander, for example, should be the domain of Thrane, and perhaps Valenar. Undead Commander should be beyond a doubt Karnathi. Some of the more generic ones can be universal.
3) More teamwork benifits and commander auras that are geared towards eberron (especially dealing with warforged and artificers). Warforged commander springs to mind, which gives a bonus to all warforged under command.

I though I was the only one who thought of this. My original thoughts are always taken. :(

...*must...not...stat...WMD's*

Amongst others, the idea of warforged versus undead massive fights, being played out...*drooools*
