| ChaosBug08-31-04, 05:11 PM | while search is disabled I can't go looking for this information but anyone know the daily distance traveled by the elven or magebred horses? I looked up their speed in the stat blocks and checked the DMG to convert it over to daily speed but the chart in the DMG did not go up that high. looks like it increases 8 miles for every extra 10 feet of movement but I'd like to confirm this before I go further with my chart for the roadways of eberron. |

Since someone with a speed of 40 ft. can travel 32 miles per day, one must assume that a Valenar riding horse can travel 64 miles per day (at a "walk"). Alternatively, it could Hustle for 3 hours (taking 3 points of lethal damage in the process) and go 48 miles, and then walk 40 more for a grand total of 84 miles in a day. A magebred horse (bred for swiftness) could have its speed increased by 10 ft. - from 60ft. to 70 ft. for a light horse or 50 ft. to 60 ft. for a heavy horse. |
| ChaosBug08-31-04, 06:59 PM | right but I was wondering if there was a declining rate of return or if it stayed at 10 feet per round = 8 miles per day |

| JohnSnow08-31-04, 07:15 PM | There shouldn't be a diminishing rate of return, since the numbers are based on simple math. 10 feet/round = 10 ft./6 seconds = 100 feet/minute = 6000 ft/hour which rounds down to 1 mi./hour or 8 miles/day (allowing for a character moving a little faster than average in combat). So the following speed to miles per day correspondence: 20 feet = 2x8 = 16 mi/day 30 feet = 3x8 = 24 mi/day 40 feet = 4x8 = 32 mi./day 80 feet = 8x8 = 64 mi./day And so forth... Hope that helps! |
