Delazar 04-28-05, 06:58 AM	i'm playing a 7th level human artificer with the Least Cannith mark,i'm planning on going to Dragonmark Heir ASAP. In the campaign we're playing, the DM let the following happen: As we all know, house Cannith is divided in three, in our Camaign the "heads" of the three house are Merrix, Jorlana and a certain Zorlaan, IIRC. Now, Jorlana organized some big party/meeting, where she invited the other two, members from all the Dragonmarked houses, and some nobles Kaius III and his wife were also present (!) Jorlana announced she had decided as follows: to let the people of Khorvaire vote for who's gonna be the Head of the unified Cannith House. People can vote between the three mentioned above. I wasn't quite sure how she was going to conduct the election, but she meant for ALL Khorvaire to vote (farmers included). She explained that we from house cannith have to show the rest of the world that we really care about the people, something like they all blame us for that small Mournland accident... Merrix agreed with her, Zorlaan wasn't so happy about this. As a "sidekick" of Merrix, i could give my opinion, and i said "all this is madness. i agree we SHOULD unite the house once again, but if we have to vote, only members of house cannith should vote... i mean, this is OUR bussiness" in the end, it was decided by the three that only members of the Dragonmarked Housesn Nobles and Clergy are allowed to vote. As a surprise, Merrix announced he would give his place to ME, and would support my "campaign"... as a matter of fact, i'm not the Head of Cannith South, but i participate in the election to become the Head of the united House. He gave some shady motivations for this (like he's a scientist, and not really interested in politics), i suspect he just wants to betray me sooner or later, but i don't know for sure... i'll try to investigate. Now, after this long post, here is my question: I have to organize a Campaign ! i have to convince Khorvaire to vote for me! any suggestions how i can do this? It seems Merrix controls the press, at least the Korranberg Chronicle (don't ask me how), so i already had a couple of good articles about me... any suggestions are appreciated, and don't forget... VOTE FOR ME!!!

Yuh think? Thats pretty cool though, let us know what eveil plots your mad and twisted DM comes up with though. Something you need to keep in mind is that to win control of the house you need to appeal to the most number of people as possible. Also, have you considered that Jorlana intended to have all of this happen. She appears so extreme that her peers will capitulate to what ever she suggests next since its less insane.
Czar Blip 04-28-05, 07:00 PM	Just throw out a lot of political promises you can't possibly deliver on. That's the standard way to get elected. Some suggestions: Lower prices Retirement benefits Better education A magebred horse in every stable Then you run a smear campaign and accuse your opponents of things like having secret alliances with Darguun, and the implication that they had something to do with the destruction of Cyre. You'll win by a landslide.
Ohtar Turinson 04-28-05, 10:17 PM	What's your alignment and character personality? That'll have a big impact on how you campaign. No assassination if you're LG, etc. Sure fire things though- since you're getting the vote of houses and nobles, do your best to raise production and maybe have a slight price cut initially; everyone wants a piece of Cannith goods, though these wealthy groups won't really benefit substantially- but you'll seem like the good guy if you pull it right. And I don't think Merrix will intentionally screw you over (unless the DM has a story for it...). More likely he wants you as front guy, and so that he gets more support for his 'projects.' Not that this means that he won't suddenly cease to be of assistance if things go sour... And watch out for Zorlann... I hear he's one mean :censored:
Delazar 04-29-05, 07:00 AM	What's your alignment and character personality? i'm Lawful Neutral. i like luxury and i think the Dragonmarked are superior to common people, and to nobles. i think this because our "nobility" is marked on our body, while a noble... well, maybe he's just the bastard son of a servant. i believe in equal rights between humans and warforged (my best friend is my bodyguard Grave, a warforged figter/barbarian/juggernaut). i think the Dragonmarked should rule the people of Khorvaire, and not only their house, because they have been "chosen" by the Prophecy. i believe in the power of artifice, in the creation of magical items to help everyday life.
Zagumus 04-29-05, 08:40 AM	Purposely lose the campainge to smite Merrix, but wait to this until the last possible moment so he does not have the time to fix it or take control back from your dead figures. Then reveil your great plan to who ever won and ask for a high ranking position in the house.

Shades 04-29-05, 12:46 PM	Since you're only appealing to the higher, status based classes, your campaign should adjust to take that into account. Getting articles might help a bit, but since you don't really need any support from the lower classes, you should be focusing on campaigning in person to the upper classes. Invite various highly positioned dragonmarked to some kind of gathering. Be it a party, a display of current and upcoming technology that will show them the benefit to having you in charge, a 'press meeting' to tell them about your plans...whatever. Snob it up, focus on chatting up the people that matter. Make connections with other dragonmark houses...tell Phiarlan you've got a series of stealth increasing items you'd like to begin giving them sole trading rights to. If you feel up to it, turn around and do the exact same thing with Thuranni. It may be slightly underhanded, but it's not exactly 'evil'...they're both getting a benefit, they just don't know you're giving the other guys the same benefit. And it'l probably ensure their support for you. Give donations to various clergy... if you practice a specific religion (One that has a say in your election) make sure they know it. Hide any undue attention if you worship a less...popular god. (Much as I and many like the traveller, saying you worship him would probably make the other religions turn away from you) You deal in trade goods, so showing the houses how you can give them good deals on items they need to get by gives you a better chance of having their support. Nobles deal in money and influence. Dragonmark houses deal in goods, services, and knowledge. Clergy deal in money and moral issues. Adjust your speeches to each as you meet them, and you'll be fine. Pretty straightforward stuff. Just think of all the politics going on in the world, and emulate. Politics is a pretty large gray area that's all about putting on a different face than what you'd show in daily life. It's also about pure charisma...if people like your personality, they dont care as much about what you're going to do with your position.
