| Delusionist04-30-06, 07:09 PM | I seem to recall somewhere that House Deneith offers a sort of justice for hire service where they will find and detain suspects for a price. In the Sharn sourcebook there is mention that hard labor is often a punishment for criminal acts. I am considering having another service offered by Deneith be the management of prisoners and the sale of the hard labor of criminals to those who are willing to pay. A prospective employer could approach Deneith and purchase the indentured servitude of a prisoner for a portion of the sentence. The employer will be given a document, and Deneith will retain a copy, stating that the prisoner owes the employer a term of service. It also seems that Deneith may offer a sort of roving justice service where they will bring a justice official to the site of a trial. Granted such a service would be beyond the reach of most people but those who can afford it could have quick justice. What are the thoughts of the board on this interpretation? It seems to be a logical extension of the duties and services the house already provides. |

There are 9 in Sharn. They are permitted to cross borders in pursuit of criminals. They SOMETIMES take a case to hunt down a criminal, when local law enforcement is insufficient. Think of them as Texas rangers and FBI rolled into one. |
| Nived05-01-06, 08:16 AM | Personally I envisioned Tommy Lee Jones from The Fugitive as a typical Sentinal Marshal. "I didn't kill my wife!" "... I don't care." Its not their job to dole out justice. Its their job to find the suspect, or perpitraitor and drag them back to the 'proper' athorities. That was my take anyway. |

Hence why I doubletaked upon seeing "average level paladin 3". 1) Unquestioning obediance? Lawful, but not necessarily good, even in support of the law. 2) Paladins are generally lousy at gather information, interrogations, bluffing, etc. They do make great figureheads, though. |

Although it is not in keeping with how I run MY House Deneith, that could be kind of cool. All sorts of vengeance and escapee plots waiting to stem from there. It also seems that Deneith may offer a sort of roving justice service where they will bring a justice official to the site of a trial. I feel like it is abolishing an already fuzzy line between the authority of the sovereign nations and the authority of House Deneith. |
| okaynowa05-01-06, 01:28 PM | Doesn't House Kundarak do a small sideline in specialty prisoners? I seem to recall that they have an off-shore facility somewhere for those that lesser prisons cannot contain (or political climate will not suffer). |

| Naudachu05-02-06, 02:55 PM | Yeah, I think House Kundarak runs Dreadhold (?) in the Lhazaar Principalities. They probably have an aggreement with House Deneith or even House Tharashk to hunt down high powered fugitives, instead of handling it themselves. I can just picture a scene like Empire Strikes Back where Vader is talking to the lineup of bouty hunters. :D |

Yeah, while I can imagine a paladin taking a job like this, they wouldn't have that kind of amoral, bounty-hunter attitude toward it. It wouldn't be "I didn't kill my wife!" "I don't care," but "I'm sorry, but that's for a proper civil authority to decide; I can't take the law into my own hands". 2) Paladins are generally lousy at gather information, interrogations, bluffing, etc. They do make great figureheads, though. Given the small number of Sentinel Marshals that exist, I would imagine their modus operandi is a lot like what the FBI does in local jurisdictions, coming in and co-opting existing police forces -- including the police forces' Experts, Rogues, and Master Inquisitives -- and riding in front as their figurehead, as you say. |
| DarkWarriorKarg05-03-06, 09:59 AM | Where did you see this figure? I made a mistake... ECS, p.233, Typical House Deneith Sentinel Marshal Human Paladin 5, not 3 |
| Kreistor105-03-06, 01:52 PM | I don't buy it, myself. Paladins don't make good mercenaries, so performing services based only on the fact they are paid makes no sense to me. I agree entirely on the "doubletake", and already have other builds ready to do this job. This is a job for lawful evil, not lawful good. |

Definitely (I... yam duh Law!) Lawful Good? Sure. An organization of Paladins? uhhh... no. This would also mean that Deneith has 9 paladins of level 5+ in Sharn alone (SCoT). |
