Okay, I'm playing a Lyrandar Heir and since I can't use the search function I'd like to know if there are any threads around that might have some useful knowledge/hints/trivia that a character might want/need to know!

I've actually got a few actual questions as well...

What is an Aundair Dragonhawk, there seems to be a picture of it in the ECS picture gallery but I can't find stats in my ECS.

About how large is a typical Airship and about how large is a LARGE Airship.

Has anyone mapped out Stormhome, is there a plan to if it hasn't been done.

What's the difference between an Airship and the Stormships we read about in the City of Towers novel?

AND Last (for now) and not least... what kind of role do you think the son of the matriarch should play in house politics, should he follow mommy's ever wish, go out and adventure, a bit of both, or just act like any other adventurer and run home when he needs money/help/resurections?

Hmm, good question. There's a picture of a man flying on one in the description of Aundair, so they're probably not for fighting but for travel.

Just as large as a normal boat. You can find these sizes in the Arms and Equipment Guide, and quite possibly in the DMG or PHB under purchasable services.

What's the difference between an Airship and the Stormships we read about in the City of Towers novel?

Stormships seem to be more focused around rings of lightning for flight, and seem to have spell-like control of weather and lightning for battle purposes. This is probably up to the DM to decide.

The role of never leaving. Seriously. If you're the heir, chances are the only excitement you'll ever see is political in the courts and maybe a few random hunting parties where you chase a fox or stag. Being born into such a high rank grants benefits in balance with responsibilities.

Yeah, but a good mount is hard to come by.... at least one that's different and nifty. Besides the rest of my group has decided to purchase flying mounts instead of using the Lightning Rail or Airships, so I really should do so also... even if that means not using my cushy airships... but having something like an Aundairian Dragon Hawk would seem within Character as he did grow up in Aundair (born in Stormhome, learned magic in Arcanix). ANYWAY, stats would be nice... I'll see what I can dig up. It definately looks bigger and stronger than a Giant Eagle...

The ships can't be based on regular ships for size... at least not if you're going to look at the size of the one in the ECS! That thing is HUGE! And it didn't say it was a special size or even that it was the Pride of Storms... it said it was just a Lyrandar Airship.... and if that's run of the mill... then WOAH! It's HUGE! Just curious about that.

Yeah, with the stormship thing... we'll prolly hear more about those later... though I must say... I'm more than a bit curious.

As far as not leaving the house... yeah that's just boring, besides I'd think that an Heir would need to get out and experience the world... *chuckle* he needs to learn his powers and improve his dragonmark as it is. So, no, staying at home and looking pretty isn't going to work for him... though yeah it might make sense from a mothers point of view.

Read somewhere that mages of Aundair used them as mounts while fighting ground troops!

Well you got the Dragonhawk now! :)

There is no typical airship as i see it! there come in any size or shape! Custom bulit for there owner. The cover of The city of tower has a few on it...

But if your in Stormhome the hub of Lyrandar activity, well lets just say this is the place to see airship in any size.

And i would think that the Martriarch has a "Pirde of Storm" of here own...certainly a big one.

Well you colud be sendt out on house missions! And as Stormhome is a hotbed for spy from all over khorvaire, it never boring there! Or you could be kind of a black spot of the family but have the support of your mother! That opens up for adventuring....(and when you get home you are a hero!)

Dependes on what character you want....

Has anyone mapped out Stormhome, is there a plan to if it hasn't been done

Well i would like to help on that! we could make a district or two with the DMG Web encantment.....(let me know if you want to do this...)

Well, while a Giant Eagle is kind of weenie, what about a Giant Eagle with 9 HD? At that point, advancement rules make it Huge, easily capable of carrying a rider or two. Even if that's not what was envisioned for the Dragonhawk, it should easily serve until we hear something more definitive.

I tend to agree with the statement that an heir of a house would not be allowed far from home. However, you could always do a "runaway" type of heir. You know, hiding from the Lyrandar forces looking for you, adventuring under a fake name, and creating a name for yourself that isn't associated with your status in the House. And, if you *ARE* caught by Lyrandar forces, you won't be hurt or killed. You most likely will just be punished.

All that assumes the DM wants House Lyrandar to find you, too. It could even be a running joke (or major campaign sub-plot) that House Lyrandar keeps missing you by scant moments.

Just something to consider... :)

I hadn't thought about just advancing a Giant Eagle, though I suppose that could work, then why wouldn't it just be a Giant Eagle, THAT'S REALLY BIG! *chuckle* Though it's a good idea for the moment... a few people sent me links in other threads where others had attempted to come up with a Dragonhawk, some of them were pretty cool and stemmed from either a Dire Hawk advanced and given the halfdragon template, or the draconic template which seems to me to make the most sense (and gives you a pretty nasty animal companion!). So I'll prolly go that route.

As for mapping out Stormhome, I'd love too! But I don't have those kinda skills... Though I may have a go at it anyway.

House missions sound fun for him... In fact that's the way we've been doing it since we started... we were actually running the Eberron modules (with a dash of side adventures thrown in by our very imaginative DM) and the Cannith's actually hired my house to have me "watch" the other PCs... (it's been fun). So that's probably where we'll go with it... though I'll probably eventually try and throw too much wieght around with my Favored In House feat and get my PCs Mother looking for him... That'll be fun, laying low from the house because I conned too much money from one of my cousins *chuckle*

Totally depends on the individual. If he is a PC, then obviously he should go out and adventure. But it is up to you and your DM whether he is doing so for the benefit of his house, or whether he is a more rebellious sort interested in things outside the house. If he has the Favored in House feat, then it is likely that his connection to the matriarch is such that he can get that money/help. If not, then perhaps there has been a "Just because I'm in charge doesn't mean you get special consideration" conversation in his past.

If you don't want the politics, then maybe you are the classic rebel-child, uninterested in birthright and so on.

To fake a dragonhawk until we get an legit stat block, we could just advance a gaint eagle to huge size, and the apply the half-dragon template to give it dragonish traits without taking away the eaglish traits. That picture of the dragonhawk does look like something that would have a breath weapon. :)

Heh, well my DM decided to take the Dire Hawk give it the Draconic Template and then Advance it to 13 HD, Yeah... he figured that even if the Dire Hawk doesn't have that kinda Advancement built it that 13 HD would make it Huge. And lets face it... to carry a horse away, your gonna need to be bigger than the horse.

Why not a Roc?

Here again, I was going to suggest a pegasus...but I suppose that may be too standard. I'm sure Vadalis has some magebreed of pegasi for the stinking rich, they already fly very well.

Also, the Bladewing or whatever the ECS name for Pteradactyl is. Riding dinosaurs can be neato-van-deeto...

Or if you want craziness (I see people suggesting CR 7+ mounts) go for a dragon. Sell your soul to the Chamber and get a Bronze Dragon companion to keep you company and be the envy of all your friends as you continue liasons dangereuses with the intelligent scaly things.

Hell, why don't you befriend a Beholder...not the fastest mount but it's perfect maneuverability and abilities make it an orbital weapons platform.

Ok...enough craziness...

So what about a warhorse trained with fly cast on it permanently or with some elemental bound harness? Wouldn't that beat all?
