| Bubba33308-11-04, 04:55 AM | I've searched and searched and I'm wondering where I might find how much an apartment, house, etc. costs to buy or rent. The reason I'm posting this here is to not only learn the above, but what you all might think any changes due to the Eberron setting would be. For example, how much more would a place in Sharn be as opposed to the Eldeen Reaches? |
| Save_vs_DM08-11-04, 05:24 AM | Page 101 of the DMG lists a Simple House as going for 1,000gp. Those are for houses in the City. I think 1,000gp for a house in Sharn is probably approriate. I'd halve that cost in smaller areas such as the Eldeen Reaches. However if you have a PC spellcaster or an artificer in the party, it gets cheaper: spells like wood shape, stone to mud, mud to stone, stone wall and stone shape can really do wonders when making a house... I ask because I have a player who's PC lives in Sharn and wants a small apartment, but we can't figure out how much rent should be. Sorry that I forgot to post that before. So, what do you all think is a good price for a monthly rent? 3-10 sp depending on the place? What about renting business spot? |

A useful rule of thumb is that a silver piece in game is about the same as $20 American (I wonder if the D20 Modern game has a numbers breakdown for this). It is not a perfect ratio, but it can give you an idea on how much things should cost in game that there aren't immediate rules for. A studio apartment in New York (a very Sharn-ish city) can go for about $600-800 a month, or 3 or 4 gp. Put in this perspective, PCs are very wealthy, but that's the adventurers life! |
| Bubba33308-11-04, 11:32 AM | Hey! That's very cool! Thanks. And yes, PCs get rather rich quickly. That's why my wife's character can afford to give away 400 gp to strangers! *G* |

On that list thier's a sidebar called Variant:Upkeep, page number and details I forgot but I it's pertinent to your question. |

Has anyone tried that Variant? if so, how did it go? |
