Seriously, this would be fun. The PCs would all work for one kingdom, and hold a letter of the mark. With all the shifting loyalties, this month's enemy is next months ally.

The PCs would be irregulars. They would strike behind the scenes, disrupting caravans, making tageted hits, picking up rare magic items for the war effort.
The goal would be to put them in a castle on a frontier somewhere.

Has anyone ever run a wartime campaign? It sounds like fun. can it last?
You could always run the treaty of Thronehold if the players get bored.

I think a campaign set during the Last War is a great idea, and I plan to run one sometime in the future. As you say, it would probably be best to have the party living in a frontier fortress, venturing behind enemy lines to cause all kinds of mischeif ;)
Another idea I've seen tossed around that I like, is to begin the campaign with a scene from the Last War, a huge, cinematic battle with explosions, infantry and cavalry. After the scene, simply fast forward to present day. Its a great way to build on a character if they actually fought in the Last War, rather than it just saying so on their sheet.

I'm always a big fan of war campaigns so I think its a great idea. Unfornately, none of the people in my group are very adapt at running a long lasting war campaign and don't like running adventures that are constrained by history guidelines. *Shrug* Blah, enough of that nonsense.

Back to your question, yes I think it would be badass, I've actually thought of running another campaign in the future like that, but right now I'm GMing and I think if we play a campaign like that I want the other GM in our group to run it instead. I'd rather be a PC in a war campaign than a GM. Not that I don't think it would be cool to be the GM for it, but I'm itchin for a PCing again. I like your idea though and wish you the best of luck with running it if you ever play it.

I was thinking of running a military campaign, set in modern times...with the players irregulars in the Karranthi army in a Talenta plains fortress... unfortunately built over an entrance to Khyber and a manifest zone to Xoriat.

Maybe, like a flashback in my campaign.
I could let the players play through the stories of the 100 years war,
