How are the chronicles produced? [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-22-05, 02:28 AM How are the chronicles (newspapers) produced in Eberron?

Has the printing press been invented? Are they magically copied? Are they scribed in warforged sweatshops?

If they are magically produced, is there actual spells/items that are detailed in the rules? Or is it some kind of unnamed magic that the PCs can never understand or get their hands on?

There may be an easy answer to this in one of the supplements. I only have the main campaign book and couldn't find it with a cursory look.

A It's a good question. I would suspect that at least some of the chronicles do make use of old-style printing presses; I don't feel that this is beyond the level of technology generally presented for Khorvaire. However, the Korranberg Chronicle in particular probably uses a magical press, operating off of the same fundamental principles as arcane mark.

01-22-05, 11:47 AM As a fictional assoc. editor of the Chronicle -pay us a visit at http://keen.datavortex.net/ -- I can tell you that we use a combination of minor magics such as;

special ink "useable" only on our special copper plates that allow us to write a story/article and than "erase" it after publication. This prevents us from having to make new plates for each paper, allowing us to cut costs to you the reader.
Using the plates we print a small quota, onto common paper stock, and have it reproduced (with spells such as arcane writing, copy and others) by a small but crack staff of magic-users and artificers.
We then transport it to larger cities and towns by all means possible from transportation spells to carrier eagles to trade caravans.
