Well... Daelkyr can't actually possess... so your party member is likely under his influence (subtle difference, but different nontheless).

As far as I know, the only real option is to track down the Daelkyr responsible and destroy him. Sure, he'll just come back to life, but it should be in Xoriat, and your friend will be free.

Sounds easy, but since the Daelkyr are some of the most powerful creatures on Khorvaire, it might just be better to kill your friend's character, and have him make up something new (unless you're playing in an Epic Level campaign, of course).

Really, this is one of those times when I would talk to the DM and tell him that you have no idea what to do, and he needs to give you guys some clue as to if he even feels that this is something that you can correct.

Well Kill the Kalastar Isn't easy since he has an AC of 50 or Touch 28.

I must run?.
The daelky is too strong.

Prepare the atonment for my paladin.

Question: Since killing the body that's possessed doesn't even hurt the possessor (in this case the Daelkyr), what's to stop it from then turning around and possessing every last member of the party?

This really sounds like a game-ending situation. Unless I'm missing something, the PCs can't possibly win, so at this point it seems like a better idea to just start over with new characters. The only point to carrying on with this game is if there is something that the PCs can do to overcome this challenge.

most of them can become Ethereal... also they have 1 Quori Mind hunter... (The kalashtar!)... and have enough ways to avoid getting possesed... I just want them to find an Inteligent way out of this...

because latetly the party has become a kick in the door party... and I hate that... the y have to think a way out of this.,.. or die!

There are several spells that will get rid of a possessing spirit. I don't have the book on me ATM, but check the new Fiends of the Abyss. Also.. though they probably know this, Prot. from Evil will prevent possession, doesn't work on one already there though, I don't think, but check Fiends, it's got a lot more detail on what to do in these situations.

Wish always works....probably even limited wish would work just fine.

Get a Shaper to make a big bunch of Quintessence and wrap your friend in it.

Ah, page 26 in the Fiends of the Abyss details what is effective againt possessing entities. The easiest, by far, is simply casting Prot From Evil, since that prevents the fiend from doing anything but leaving the host, then prevents re-possesion. There are a bunch of other spells (such as exorcism) but they all give the fiend a will save. While PFE won't actaully rid the PC of the fiend, it'll make his life barable.

Not to mention more likely to work with you rather than against you as you try to get the thing out of him.

ECS has special rules on possession on p 100. Under these rules, possessing entitites can circumvent things like Protection from Evil and Magic Circle against Evil spells.

Dismissal or Dispel Evil are the typical spells to remove possession. Limited Wish, Wish and Miracle should also work.

The possession rules in Hordes of the Abyss (kept calling it fiends for some reason) and ECS are pretty much identical. PFE won't harm the thing, nor drive it out, but it will supress it.

Since Daelkyr are madness incarnate, could it be that having a Daelkyr in one's head is just an analog for being crazy? I would see if your cleric could brew a potion of Lithium... that might work on Daelkyr like holy water on a vampire. ;)

In all seriousness, UA had some rules for Madness, and ways of treating Madness, using divine magic, alchemical/pharmaceutical drugs, or "talk therapy" (Cha-based social skills). You can find those rules for free in the Variant Rules section of the SRD.

You could also represent ordinary madness by the Depravity rules from Heroes of Horror's Taint.

Even so, daelkyr are *personal embodiments of madness*, just as fiends are personal embodiments of evil and the Dreaming Dark quori are personal embodiments of the negative emotions of the subconscious. Being possessed or mind-controlled by a daelkyr is a much bigger deal than simply being insane, just as being possessed by a devil is a much bigger deal than simply being an evil person, or being possessed by a tsucora quori is a much bigger deal than being paralyzed by fear.

if the daelkyr is possessing your friend why not lay down the smack down on the daelkyr, when possessing things the original body is left in statis, but is by no means active in any way. Everyone chug some protectiion from evil's and lay the smackdown. If your Daeklyr fights back run away and keep chugging those damn potions

Sedate the victim, charter an airship to the Reaches, drop victim off in front of Oalian (sp?)

Remove from heat, land stand 5 minutes, fluff and serve.

That's what they used to do with 7-Up.

Answer of what your DM has likely planned (and hence is pretty inevitable):

Make a suitable Knowledge (arcana, psionnics, religion) or sense motive, gather information, bardic knowledge, or whatever, then do whatever quest they want.

The DM probably wants you to do some semi-mystical quest through your comrade's subconscious, so you may as well go along with it. With luck, dying in your friend's brain is not just straight dying, which must be good.

I don't know why people are sending you to Hordes of the Abyss and UA and other books when the answers you seek are in the ECS!

Others have mentioned the possession rules on page 100, but I will point to an even simpler solution. From the sound of it, you are playing a Paladin of the Silver Flame, correct? Check out the domains available to clerics of the Flame, particularly the Exorcism domain. Guess what its granted power is? If you guessed "Forcing possessing spirits out of the body they are inhabiting," then you're a winner! :dancin:

Prepare a magic circle against evil spell.Thank you Gurv, at least somebody knew the correct answer. :P

But really, it sounds like the DM is just trying to railroad you into killing the character. Is this character a PC that just so happens to be so overly powergamed and munched that it could be causing problems for the game, and hence the DM's desire to off them?

Its quite possible that the party brought this problem down on their own heads, and the DM is just trying to remove the problem in-character instead of just standing up and telling the player "No".

Thank you Gurv, at least somebody knew the correct answer.

Edymnion, it's NOT the correct answer. A Magic Circle against Evil protects against possesion, but it's ineffective for removing possession. A fiend can hide its presence within a possessed creature, allowing it to pass through a magic circle. Please refer to the Eberron rules on possession on p 100 of the ECS.

Please refer to the Eberron rules on possession on p 100 of the ECS.It is the correct answer to how to get the thing to stop killing everybody, and gives time for them to find more permanent answers. The first answer to posession of any kind should always be a Magic Circle to halt said posession in it's tracks while you research the proper way to get rid of whatever is causing the problem. And considering the fact that they are talking about COMBAT with the thing, it doesn't sound like they've got time for anything more complex until they can get things under control. Stick the affected character in the circle, the posessing creature can no longer control them, and leave 'em there until you've had time to figure out more permanent solutions.

Well, first actually I'm a exorcist but look the daelkyr's hit dice so I can't make a silver exorcist. MMM. Later Kemmotar told me that he made that cause he don't want to I do every thing for my kick door party.

But all the ideas are very good.

P.S: The daelkyr is playing "How can fight a Kalashtar whitout arms?" In his mind. lol.

See ya
