I'm DMing an Eberron game and i'm wondering, How can a Skyship crash?
It is:
1 powered by an elemental, therefore can't because of not relying on wind to
blow sails.
2 powered by an elemental, definately can't sink

See, i want a very cinematic battle; i want them to fight vs. a goblin pirate attack while in the air. Plus i want the Skyship to plummet towards the ground/sea during the heat of battle.
This way someone has to break from combat to steady the ship to save the party from certain death.

So i want a possible way for an airship to plummet to the ground, but can be fixed quickly while in the air

Also i don't have the Explorer's Handbook so i'm not sure what that says about this type of stuff, and no i can't buy the Explorer's Handbook. because of money.

Thanks everyone,

A quick and easy way to have it plummet and then recover? Simple. The dragonmarked House Lyrandar pilot is incapacitated - kidnapped, bribed, dead, whatever. Without him/her controlling the elemental, the elemental could very well go nuts and begin driving the ship relentlessly towards the ground. To stop the crash, someone must reach the helm and start making opposed Charisma checks each round to control the elemental, at least until another dragonmarked member of Lyrandar can take full control.

That or the elemental binding enchantments are weakening (perhaps from some AMFs or a couple dispell magics? Perhaps from scenery damage in the fight)
Perhaps the struts holding the rings got damaged, and the wizard/artificier of the party has to go over and keep them from breaking, and freeing a huge angry elemental into the midst of the battle.
