Wondering if anyone else wrestles with the problems of wanting to run an Eberron campaign without any of the city books released. Should I just make up a few places in the city for players to go to and not worry about all the details? What do you other DM's do in a situation like this?

I'm playing in a game that just started about a month ago. We're first (now second) level, and it takes place in Sharn. So far, the DM's just played Sharn like the metropolis it is, gleaning what little details there are in the book to make a coherent story.

For example, right now we're investigating a gang of shifters (we think), that have a hideout in the basement of an old, rundown inn in the lower regions of Sharn; really sketchy neighborhood. It's worked out fine, because we haven't needed to know much about the prominent buildings or people or big organizations because we're too low of level to be needing to deal with that. For lower levels, at least, you should be able to come up with something basic enough to pass the time until the book comes and you can really start to flesh out your own personal Sharn.

The campaign guide gives you enough to have a rough template and an idea of the city. And if your characters aren't natives to Sharn, It will take them quite a while to learn about it in any depth (ie until the sourcebook comes out) or just go with what you want and if you contradict anything in the book change it to what you said after all you're the DM and its your Eberron campaign in the end.
