Do the Dragonmarked Children suffer from the same sorts of problems that stereotypical noble children have? Lack of partental attention. Snobbish attitudes. Elitism. We know they attend high level institutions of learning, and most of the house leaders (all?) have levels in PC classes, which suggests Dragonmarked nobles have a greater probability of being the "elite" of the land. The character I am considering is a 23 year old Cannith Artificer with a martial twist. He was an unruly, snotty elite child, that eventually had to be sent to a two year military school to get straightened out. He lacks a real connection to his family, since he was shuttled off to various schools starting at the age of 12, and was only breifly home for the holidays. His best friend is now a solider on deploy to various parts of Breland, (Warrior 1) that he never sees, and the only real person he cares about is his wet nurse. |

When you're born into a social order that keeps reminding you that you're special and superior in many ways (the Dragonmark, the Financial Wealth of the Houses, the Political Influence, etc), you're bound to end up thinking you're better then the rest. Each House's attitude and behavior might be colored by it's preferred territory, though. House Cannith's members are more likely to be engineers, artisans and alchemists, with an attitude to match: they probably look at most situations as something to build or rebuild. Meanwhile, House Jorasco are dedicated healers and specialists in the medical profession. While they have a slight mercenary slant, they probably feel a strong sense of responsibility in taking care of others anyway, and depending in the individual house member, some might be more flexible in terms of payment then others. House Deneith, I can envision having a very bushido-style approach, with an emphasis on personal honor and service to one's employer, combined with a spartan military lifestyle. House Phiarlann and Thiruanni, with their emphasis on entertainment and espionnage, would have a philosophy based on duplicity.. I'd basically rip off everything I learned from Legend of Five Rings' Scorpion clan here. ;) Just run with the basic theme of each house.. |
