i dont know why but for some reason i was thinking about which dragon type would fit each marked house,

This got me thinking about the 12+1lost/destroyed theme,

Dragons
Red, Blue, Black, Green, White, Gold, Silver, Bronze, Brass, Copper

Lost/extinct dragon
Coatl

now i know that coatl arnt extinct perse but effectivly they are gone, and the chromatic + Metallic dragons =10 so are there 2other common dragon types on eberron to complete the pattern, im guessing 2 gem types

what do other people think does it look like another eberron magic number or am i just going nuts?

Well in the ECS it mentions that each of the gods of the Soverign Host and Dark Six are sometimes depicted as a dragons. I would think that the types they are somtimes depicted as all exist or at least existed at some point. So, by that reasoning:
Bronze, Blue, Green, Copper, Red, Silver, White, Black, Brass for the Soverign Host, The Dark Six is a little tougher since one is listed as a Dragon Turtle, and some of the others are templated or simple described and not defined, though, Shadow dragon is specifically mentioned. So thats ten there. Notice there was no mention of a Gold dragon.
I would also assume that if Kyhber, Siberys, and Eberron actually existed and are not just a myth, they may have been exotic types such as the Planer dragons in the Draconomicon. Either that, or they were just very powerful standard dragons.
As far as other types, does anyone know of specific references to other kinds in the ECS or any other official meterials?

I would think Syberis would be a prismatic dragon, and Eberron might be a force dragon, and Khyber I could easily see as a planar dragon or something else exotic, not as sure what I'd make him.

Other dragons that existed in 2e:
Mercury, Cobalt, Amber, Yellow

Other dragons that exist in 3e:
Brown, Deep, Fang, Shadow, Song, Orientals (5), Gem (5), Planar (theoretically up to 28, one for each plane of the core cosmology except the Material Plane, plus the Styx dragon and the Oceanus dragon).

I believe the mercury and steel dragons have been converted to 3rd ed on the WotC website (the retired monster article).

I believe you missed the Rattlyr dragon put forth in Shining South.

10 types.
Siberys as a unique non-typed
Same with Eberron and Khyber.

That would make another "rule of 13"....

I see the ten basic dragons + Syberis (a Prismatic dragon), Ebberon (an advanced Forcedragon (advanced until twice as powrful as both)), and Khyber (an advanced Shadow dragon (advanced until he was a little bit more powerful than Syberis)). That would allow Ebberon to break the prophecy, cast khyber down, and put Syberis up top.

Has anyone noticed that Khyber, the evil one, is down at the bottem, or hell, Syberis is up at Heaven, and Ebberon becomes a world? That is almost Steriotypical, with Khyber as the devil, Syberis as God (or angels), and Ebberon as Gaia (who is not a Celtic (or druidic) god and don't let anyone tell you otherwise). I wonder if the makers (not only Keith (sorry if I spelled your name wrong) but the others who helped make more of the idea). If you thik about it, Dragons are like both angels and devils, but they only rarely make their meddling known to humans. Hmmmm . . .

I have a feeling that pretty much any dragon type exists. I mean Sharn has its own tiny little dragons. So maybe the dragons aren't a 12+1, but then agian would the dragons really be a part of the Draconic Prophecy?

Interestng question, do dragons see themselves as being part of that prophecy, or do they feel that they stand apart from the prophecy and are nothing more than facilitators.

I think that is how they see themselves. Seperate from the Prophecy, outside it and therefore capable of affecting as an outside force. I think that is why they view lesser races as 'lesser'; unlike them, we are predestined creatures with only the most limited form of free will. They view our actions as consequential only in how they further the Prophecy.

I also use that theory to explain the dragon's dislike of half-dragons. It muddies the waters. Especially in a case like Erandis d'Vol. The dragonmarked lineages are pretty important to the Prophecy, and having a half-dragon wild card makes research so much harder. They would stop at nothing to prevent that confusion from spreading to decendants (which explains why they leave her alone now; some must be aware of her in spite of her secrecy).

In my campaigns, any half-dragons will take that role of wild card, a force that fate cannot see. And a half-dragon with the potential to manifest a Mark is pretty much going to be a dead man. Not that I plan to allow half-dragons as a player option.
