How to bring Sharn alive? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Literally.

While, reading the Sharn book I began toying with this idea. (Which has probably been bouncing around my head since I saw an "Animate City" spell somewhere in the last week)

What if Sharn was alive. A sentient being in itself. Capable of subtly influencing the goings on. I haven't really worked out the ramifications at all, but it just seemed like an interesting take on why such an oddly built, twice abandoned city, has become such the vital piece of Khorvaire that it is today.

Is it a benevolent or malevolent creature? Does it feed on the happiness of its citizens or their pain and despair? What is its ultimate goal? What exactly can it "do"? And how did it come to be?

Does looking into this concept intrigue anyone else?

If i were to make a city alive, it wouldn't be Sharn. Sharn already has a lot of special things about it, and it works well at it is now.

As Neo would say, "Whoa."

I wouldn't have it be malevolent as it's sitting in a huge manifest zone to Irian, but it wouldn't necessarily be benevolent, either (it tolerates a lot of crime in the lower sections).

The Urban Druid from Dragon #317 "talks" to cities, and can take animated objects as animal companions, and eventually can wildshape into one. Just a little food for thought. Make of it what you will.

Perhaps it was an Urban Druid, who at the end of the Dakhaani empire had reached a point of near ascendancy, and, tired with age, fell "asleep". 80 years ago the Glass Tower fell; the impact is only just now causing this sleeping titan to awaken. I can imagine his waking rumbles causing a lot of damage.
