How to run... away [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-29-05, 10:25 AM Make a withdraw action for double movement away from the enemy without provoking an AoO.

Use the Run option (it is best if you have the run feat) to move away from them for as many rounds as your constitution score can stand, then switch to taking double moves.

If they're still chasing you, convert to the Silver Flame and hope they're right about them keeping your sould out of Dol Arrah.

(Yes, this is making fun of the other How to Run threads, including mine.)

IIRC, the withdraw action limits you to a single move action, otherwise you provoke an AoO.

Withdrawing from melee combat is a full-round action. When you withdraw, you can move up to double your speed.

08-29-05, 01:01 PM If you're a spellcaster, you could also make a Concentration check (DC 17) to cast invisibility. Of course, you'd probably want to do that before you converting to the Silver Flame.

08-30-05, 10:52 AM Also important to remember when running away is that a little magic can go a long way from the low level expedius retreat through the mid range of dimensional door upto the higher levels of Teleport and planeshift.

08-30-05, 11:09 AM My favorite tactic for running away is to knock one of my opponents off their mount and steal it. I've done that before, and boy was that goblin mad.

hahaha.

I had a gnome bard in a non-eberron campaign that was the only surviving member of the original party. Everybody else had made up a new character at least twice.

Usually he'd sit back and do his singing thing and pop a few crossbow bolts at enemies. As soon as the fighter types started really getting beat down, and when it started going bad, he cast invisibility on himself. Then moved far enough that his song still affected the others, but safe enough that he could make a speedy getaway. When people started dying, he usually cast Expedious Retreat. With the Run feat, he could out run a horse for a short time. It was kinda humorous to have one of the other players on horseback, riding like hell, and then my little gnome flew by. :D

Actually, I was a halfling. And I had been trained to ride worgs before that, so it was all good.
