| GoodTeletubby09-09-04, 10:24 PM | ok, i'm going to be starting a group on the forgotten forge, into shadows of the last war tommorow, but i need some way to get the group together to start it all off, and the search is down, so i can't search for the thread with all the awesome ones in it, so i'm looking here The party consists of a female exalted, vow of poverty human monk, a male human CN sorcerer, educated in magic by a sylph and focusing on lightning, a female shifter ranger from the Eldeen Reaches scarred by a bad experience in sharn and extremely distrustful of human males, and a changeling artificer, a student at Morgrave University used to working with Xen'Drik arifacts, and used to getting them off the black market as well, who can move comfortably in any part of the city i want to start them off in sharn, then drop them straight into the adventure, but i need some ideas anything would go, even the classic "meet in a bar" setting, but i need some ideas for fleshing it out, and i don't have time to do that for tommorow when i have a paper that needs fleshing out for tommorow first thanks |
| Greyson09-09-04, 10:50 PM | The PCs I refereed through The Forgotten Forge were all at an evening party. None of the PCs are from Sharn. So, I made up an undistinguished nobleman of Sharn. He invited them to the City of Towers, since none of them had ever been there. He had visited each of their various homes across Khorvaire during his many mercantile related travels. After refereeing Queen with Burning Eyes, I should have made that lesser noble Vestan ir'Simul - to make his betrayal more shocking. Oh well. Anyway, the PCs traveled to Sharn, find Kelsa Spire and attended the gathering, mingling with the nobleman's friends, associates and family. "Then, as so often happens to adventurers in Sharn, they stumble across the dead body" (ECS book, pg 307). One of the PCs sees Geldem's last, writhing movements and a shadowy figure hovering over the poor old guy. And, the quest is on. That's how we did it. I am sure the Eberroners on this board will have even better ideas. I hope my two cents helps. But I kindly bow to the wisdom of my fellow Eberronites... :) |
| Megatron09-09-04, 11:17 PM | It started to rain and various party members ran into a nearby Inn, they mingled inside a bit, heard a scream and investigated. Because of they curiosity and skill they were hired by a patron of the Inn as Detectives of a sort. |
| jonthegm09-09-04, 11:24 PM | All of my party were in Sharn already for various reasons... The two warforged (Tick and Tock) were making a living as itinerant bodyguards until Tock got religion... The Lhazar Druid wanted to enroll in the university. The artificer had been trying to come up with plans for self-cleaning plates in a Cannith workshop, and was taking night classes at the uni. Needless to say, they all got an invite to a party being held to attract "archaeologists" for Morgrave. Only... nobody but them ended up showing (except for two moocher geek types from the history department), and a gnome (I named him Professor Zilbar) took all their names, got huffy when he heard that the House Ghallinda people had said that he was looking for people to help with "acquisitions" (Archaeology is a serious science! It's more than just showing up some place and wresting ancient artifacts from the hands of unwitting beasts!), and wondered absent mindedly where his colleague was... The PCs eventually get kicked out into the rain, and run into the body on the way down the towers... |
| Keravin09-10-04, 09:00 AM | I'm just about to start running Forgotten Forge online. The group are being created as a group that have been together for a bit - ex Cyreans and mercs looking for some roots. They will be going to attend a meeting about employment when they encounter the body. |
| Kid SixXx09-10-04, 09:40 AM | I also DMed some backstory before beginning the adventure. The Human Ranger (Dragonmarked House Orien) started in Passage. The Gnome Artificer belongs to a reknowned family of Artificers that House Orien employs to aid with various jobs, so the Artificer and the Ranger are childhood friends. The Warforged Monk is the companion of the Gnome. The Human Ranger belongs to a family in House Orien that specializes in exploration, & he is sent to Sharn by his father. His mission is to go to Morgrave University to meet with a Professor (the one that is murdered in FF naturally) and pick up some material relating to Xen'Drik. The Gnome tags along for kicks and the Monk tags along to make sure they don't get into trouble.... which they will.. The Ranger's father foots the bill for their first Lighting Rail ride. On the train to Sharn, they meet up with the Kalashtar Psion and discuss a few things over dinner. Being of similar alignment, the Psion & the Monk find that they have quite a bit in common philosophically, and engage in quite a bit of conversation, much to the dismay of the Artificer. When they arrive in Sharn, they part ways.. or so they think.. The scream of the dying man (which turns out to be the professor the Ranger was supposed to meet) bring the attention of the original four and two others: a wandering Cleric of the Silver Flame of Khoravar blood (also visiting Morgrave bringing scrolls in need of translation) and her companion, a Khoravar rogue, judging from her choice of weaponry (actually a Changeling). As the Ranger inspects the body, to the dismay of his original 4 companions, the Warforged Barbarian attacks, and the adventure begins in earnest. |
| The Rooster09-10-04, 11:43 AM | I sat down with the group and drescibed Sharn and its importance. I then asked the group to come up with a reason they would be in Sharn, or what they were doing living there in the case of one PC. Next, the players had to explain the connections that already existed between them before we began. Two of them traveled together to Sharn as hired muscle guarding a House Orien caravan. Another already lived in Sharn, beginning o make a living as an information broker and investigator. The investigator approached one of the travelers, offering to sell information. After a little role play, the three were walking together to a tavern to discuss matters when they stumble upon the dead body. I liked making the players create their reasons for being in Sharn and their knowledge of one another. The process immediately invested the players in their characters and created some options for side quests. Rooster |
| Zagumus09-10-04, 03:07 PM | I had each of the players build an NPC into there background, a Lain Mohan. He is a freind to each of them during the last war. He invited them to come and stay with him at his brother apartment for a few weeks while his brother was on a archelogical dig. Lain set up a job interview for the group but the players were late because they got lost in the towers of eberron and were turned away. Them came across the body on the way home. |
| Angelion09-10-04, 06:10 PM | My players had actually some background for once, and they went back in history with each other. They all decided to meet in Eberron, to party a bit. Then they stumbled upon the bloody bridge... and got thrown into the life of adventuring. |
