Ok, I'm starting an Eberron campaign as a player and I intend to play a rogue. The rest of the party will be composed of a swashbuckler (human or elf), an orc barbarian, a human cleric/wizards/true necromancer (wannabe) and me...

We will mostly be neutral (LN or LG, 2 * CN and LE)...

Here is my concept (general)...

I am chaotic and I like to gamble, it's part of my genes... I have a big dept to someone that either I, or my father, got in the past. I intend to become a master thrower when I get higher level and I plan on fighting with ranged weapons most of the time.

The game will be set in Sharn (starting with forgottent forge with the new DM) and we will probably start doing some random stuff after that.

1- I want to know if taking a dragonmark would slow me down too much (featwise), or if it would still be feasible (getting some marks and my feats to fight...) ?

2- Also, which mark would be more appropriate for me (if was thinking a orien or finding... or something else) ?

3- Do you have any name suggestions ?

I know this is pretty vague, but I have the concept pretty figured out, this guy will be very easy going and sometimes even careless... He will be a funny person to travel with (I hope) and is debt and gaming habits will bring some strange situations.

Thanks for your feedback, whatever they are.

It depends. If you're human, you can think of that bonus feat as extra. But as a rogue you won't be getting tons of them. If you're going for master thrower, using only rogue levels, you can get the class at 8th level, which means you have time to earn those 3 feats you need. Not taking a dragonmark won't get you there any faster.

2- Also, which mark would be more appropriate for me (if was thinking a orien or finding... or something else) ?

I immediately think Orien. The possibilities for getting in and out are endless with their powers. The Mark of Finding is a half-orc mark, which means one less feat. Which means taking a dragonmark prevents you from becoming a master thrower until 10th level. The other human marks are less useful.

3- Do you have any name suggestions ?

Not really. Good names take forever to think of.

First, decide if you want to use them, and if your DM will want to work with them. Being in a marked house can open up a world of responsibilities and roleplaying options, and you should both be sure if that's what you want. After all, it's practically the same as playing nobility.

Dragonmark feats can make for a useful bonus here and there, but if you're planning on focusing on them as a major part of your character (either in terms of roleplaying or power-building), you should work with your DM and aim towards the Dragonmarked Heir prestige class.

As it happens, the class could work very well with your build and concept (a few skillpoints for social skills, rogue BAB progression, and a good tie-in with social situations for a high-life gambler). If you aren't planning on hitting the chain of dragonmarks in your house, then you may want to skip the PrC, but if you do want them all, it'll provide them for you with significantly lower cost on your other available feats.

As for which house to pick, that's up to you. As a human, you've got the widest selection by far, and any of them could work well for you. Deneith and Orien work well for a rogue class (the Deneith bonus to Sense Motive could be useful for gambling, and the Orien magical abilities are of great use to any rogue). House Vidalis wouldn't necessarily make a great connection with your concept, but it's not impossible to come up with a good story out of it. Meanwhile, House Cannith seems to be very common in the pre-written adventures, and provides for lots of intrigue with its three-way political split.

So it looks like you've got plenty of options that could all work out. Just workw ith your DM about which ones you'd both like to go with!

The Mark of Finding is a half-orc mark, which means one less feat.
Actually House Tharashk are the exception - both Humans and Half-Orcs of that line can manifest the Mark.

Your character concept sounds pretty similar to a character I just wrote up this weekend. Instead of rogue I am taking fighter levels so that I have the spare feats to tweak out my dragonmark. Basically he is a member of House Orien, and when his dragonmark appeared, his folks had him start training to be a lightning rail pilot. He wasn't suited for that, and after a brief skirmish with some train hijackers, Orien started using him as a security force for their more sensitive deliveries (diplomats, nobles, expensive cargo, etc). He is very hasty and likes to spring into battle at a moments notice and then end the fight as quickly as possible. I think I am going to *yoink* your idea about the gambling and debt, as that seems to fit nicely with the way I envisioned his personality.

As he is largely about speed and cunning I thought my choice of name was fitting: Chase. Chase Larryck d'Orien to be exact.

Up until now I have just been DM'ing Eberron, so I am quite excited to finally get to play a character! Yay! :cheer:

That wouldn't have happened to be for Winter Fantasy, would it? I also got to make a new character for Eberron this weekend, and it was a Dwarven Rogue who acted as an investigator for house Kundarak. It seems that the rogue's many, many skillpoints work very well for Eberron's pulpy characters!

Nope, not a character for Winter Fantasy. Just me sitting at home thinking up a character while the wife was doing some homework. I am very excited to play this new character, and can't wait to see what my DM has cooked up for us.

In every one of these threads, when someone wants a human dragonmark, Orien is always suggested.

As such, I'm going to recommend Vadalis. Think of all the inside tips you'll be able to get on the races!

Name suggestion: Harko Rollingby d'Vadalis

Splendide, I think I will be using a part of your name suggestion and go with Draco RollingBy. As for the dragonmark, I now have a new issue...

I'm now looking between taking a mark (Orien) or taking 5 level in invisible blade as well as master thrower... that way, I would be an incredible dagger thrower (i hope).

I am not quite sure what is the best... I think the two prestige class will take too many skills away from me and that I won't be as competent as a rogue...

Would invisible blade be a more appropriate prestige class (taking in mind I would only take one) ? or do you guys think is feasable to take both ?

BTW, thanks for the previous answers.

Regarding the style of the rogue itself, I hope to be in trouble since the beginning and I will talk to the DM about it... I want to move a lot and I'm adventuring for the money. I don't intend to be greddy at all, I will simply have trouble keeping a good buget  I think this guy will be pretty fun to play, and the dragonmark will (i hope) make it easy for the DM to give us adventures
