| Nived02-22-07, 01:36 PM | Just too many variables my friend. What about all the Dragon Magazine articles? Dungeon Magazine adventures? WotC site articles? The Dragonshard video game? DDO? The novels? These boards were we debate the smallest details of a fictional world? The RPGA Mark of Heroes material? I mean I have most of the game books (ECS, PGtE, RoE, MoE, FoE SoX, FN, ExH), a smattering of random Dragon and Dungeon issues, I play DDO, I've read every published Eberron Novel... well I'm only halfway through Heirs of Ash II but that's beside the point... I've read pretty much all the site articles... and I enjoy reading and arguing on these boards. So what's my knowledge score come out to? I'll tell you what it comes out to... GEEK. |

| UnderworldLord02-22-07, 08:20 PM | beat me by two novels, and DDO. I submit to your far superior geekiness. |
| jonci02-23-07, 04:09 AM | Ew, DDO should give a negative penalty to Eberron and D&D knowledge. |
| Nived02-23-07, 12:04 PM | It's best to think of DDO as a game with a lot of house rules. None the less there is quite a bit of Eberron flavor in there and Dragonmarks have been confirmed as being two or so updates away. Regardless you're free to have that opinion. In anycase there are those n these boards that regularly trump my knowledge, Edy, Arctan. I missed a lot of Dragon issues, all the recent ones, I haven't played the Dragonshard video game RTS isn't my thing. I have no affiliation with the RPGA and really am quite in the dark on anything related to mark of heroes. I haven't read the Eberron Modules, as per request of a friend that ment to run them (but never did). Eh, my geek is not to be bowed to. |
| The_Last_Rogue02-23-07, 12:14 PM | I love me some Eberron, and I love me some WOW --> How is DDO in comparison to WOW; I have been seriously thinking about trying it, but never do. |
| Nived02-23-07, 12:40 PM | Color pallet is darker, models are less cartoony. There is integrated voice chat for parties. It's set in Stormreach in Xen'drik and is mostly about exploring dungeons and ruins. probably about 50% of the game material is in Stormreach itself which leads many to complain about the 'one city' aspect. Travel time isn't really an issue instead of running across Xen'drik when you go to an adventure site like the Menechtarun Desert, Tempest Spine, or Stormcleave you hop on a caraan and arrive there (or airship, or boat). While its true that a major complaint early in the game was there were no explorable areas (wide open spaces akin to other MMOs were you just wander aimlessly killing mobs), more recent updates... particularly Module 3 The Demon Sands which added the Menechtarun Desert, large wilderness areas to be crossed to reach certain objectives are in the game with more and larger comeing in April with Mod 4. The game is pretty much updated monthly with new features and quests with every 3 or so months a LARGE 'Module' update comes along adding significantly to the size of the game and having a contained storyline. Mod 1 The Vault of Night had us facing the Red Dragon Velah, Mod 2 The Twilight Forge had you facing minions of Xoriat that found one of the Giant armories to fight the Quori and they wererepairing a Warforged Titan from the Age of Giants (that titan is an SoB btw), Mod 3 The Demon Sands eventually put you up against the self styled Demon Queen, a marilith bound deep in the Menechtarun Desert. Mod 4 promises to put the "s" in Dungeons and Dragons, "The Reaver's Bane" as this one is being called supposedly will have three new dragons to fight, whom the devs promise will be completely different from our first experiece dragon fighting. THe game is real time no fire and forget like WOW you have to keep swinging or fireing off spells as fast as your spell retimes reset and as fast as your fingers can fly over a keyboard. That all being said the game is not perfect. Instead of the typical spell system they use the spell point system from Unearthed Arcana... so you have a mana bar. Half-Orcs, Half-Elves and Gnomes are NOT playable races while Drow are (They have to be unlocked by accumulating enough favor (respect) to impress a elder tribesmen but that's beside the point). There is currently no crafting system. Monks, Druids, and Artificers aren't in the game, the level cap is currently 12, (though going to 14 with Mod 4). Monsters tend to have artifically inflated hp or HD to make combat longer. 70% of Stormreaches problems could be solved by cremation (There are a lot of undead) Loot does tend to be monty haul, not what you'd expect in a PNP D&D game. My level 12 cleric has +5 Full Plate of Lesser False Life, a +5 Heavy Steel Shield, +6 Str Belt (picked up after killing Velah), +4 wis necklace, and more maces than you can shake a stick at. Though a Dev chat over on Warcry said that Half Orcs and Monks should be in by fall. Like I said Dragonmarks have been confirmed for either mod 4 or the first update after mod 4. Download the free trial give it a shot, maybe its your cup o tea maybe its not. |
| The_Last_Rogue02-23-07, 01:12 PM | Thanks for the quick reply and the thorough info. I most likely will give it a shot . . .I like Eberron too much not to. Thanks again. |

| Luisjoey02-23-07, 08:53 PM | Eberron is the set i love the most, is pretty new but i think it has lots of things nowday, specially with the internet that increases the content each day. In several years the setting would have a deep complication as Forgotten Realms. |
| UnderworldLord02-23-07, 09:24 PM | With the comment about wow having been made... I play, but does anyone here play AND actually role play their characters? |
| The_Last_Rogue02-24-07, 02:39 PM | With the comment about wow having been made... I play, but does anyone here play AND actually role play their characters? Most definitely. I ignore [the chat function] pretty much all the people I find annoying and useless and then RP. I am still a bit green to the whole thing WOW thing, but I find it an enjoyable alternative to pen and paper (only when those things are not currently available) |
| jonci02-25-07, 09:07 PM | My issue with DDO is that they just took too many liberties and too many shortcuts to make a marketable game. Using the spellpoint system wasn't necessary, and makes Wizards like sorcerers with the ability to learn any wiz/sorc spell. Sorcerers are really just pointless, unless you like sacrificing spells for spellpoints. I do think it is screwed up that core classes and races are missing, especially since they wasted time adding the Drow. At least an Eberron race could be been added, but I guess having Drizzt-cloner was more important. Most of the dungeons are unimaginative. Traps aren't deadly enough. Undead dungeons were the only ones I actually enjoyed, and probably because I personally find zombies to be very scary. Turbine has a long way of Mods before I'd consider trying the game again. Personally, I'd rather just wait for that Eberron mod for NWN2. |
