Hey folks

I'm interested in seeing some party ideas for a group of Dhakaani warriors (CR 6-8). I need a good challenge to pitch against my players (good allround, not tailored).
I would also be very intersted in seeing a worked out (stat block) Dhakaani spiked chain fighter with some tactical advice.

Personally I'm thinking along the lines of
- LE Female Hobgoblin Sorcerer or Cleric Lvl 7 (someone to either cast negative effects on the enemy, like slow, hold person, blindness, darkness, ... or boost her own allies)
- A Bugbear tank (Barbarian)
- A Hobgoblin Spiked Chain Fighter (just for the plain coolness of it) tripping enemy casters or using disarm attacks against fighters
- A goblin rogue (small sneaky fella working from the shadows, flanking, tumbling, using sneak atrtacks)

any ideas ?

Replace chain fighter with Hobgoblin Bard.

I just hate the idea of chain fighters, and in Eberron, really like the idea of a Dhakaani Bard of sorts singing and telling stories about the glory of the Dhakaani Empire of Old.

I'm running a game for some Dhakaani players. You might be able to pull some ideas from their character sheets. They'd have to be advanced a bit to fit your purposes, but at least it's a starting point.

I've also liked the idea of a Dhakaani Dirgesinger (from Libris Mortis).

Also consider making some mounted Dhakaani warriors using these critters for mounts:

I've got a few example "knights" that I can put up if you're interested.

thanks guys, some cool stuff !

CzarGarrett: Bards are cool, no argument there but what is wrong with a chain fighter. I read about Dakhaani chainfighters in a Dragonshard and I think it's a very cool and unique concept. We never used a chain before in our games so that makes it even more exotic and cool. Plus getting tripped and disarmed will seriously frustrate my players I'm sure of that.

Anyone cares to share some of their experiences using a chains in combat ?

Bluebrush has already posted the link to my Dhakaani party, which does indeed include a hobgoblin chain fighter (because yes, in Eberron the spiked chain is a Dhakaani weapon) and bugbear tank. It's a 5th-level party, but it may give you some ideas.

This party is designed to be able to handle a range of missions. Kashta and Sent are both skilled at infiltration and impersonation, and Kashta is skilled with social skills. Garuuf and Goresh are the combat specialists, with Morish handling magical firepower. They can and should use their circles of sound to coordinate attacks and ambushes. They're a highly trained elite military unit and should be played that way; they won't just charge the enemy, but will work to outthink him.

Don't forget that the Dhakaani are agnostic; their closest analogs to clerics are bards.

Hobgoblin Chainfighters are fluffy, and not too overpowered if you don't go into the combat reflexes/improved trip knot.

Keith Baker's Dhakaani party is a very good example. Just add a few levels and all will be well. Really, just use the party, it's a fun one to run.

awesome, thanks guys !

Hellcow : lets see what this party can do then :)
I think if I play them well I can pitch them against a higher level party of players using hit and run tactics. From what I've read they should provide a most intersting challenge.

I'd recommend a goblin ninja over the goblin rogue.

I give Darkani bards the use of Elven flat blades from Complete Warrior, (hobgoblin fast blades) and spiked chains in a martial variant. 2 levels of fighter/3 of bard and +1 LA you've got a pretty good character.

I don't know about ninja's, I've always had trouble merging eastern influences into traditional medieval fantasy. The two just don't seem compatable to me, even monks are hard to phantom at times because of the image of the shaolin.

Anyway I've been looking into Hellcows party and I love how well balaced it is, it just makes sense. Now I feel like running a Dakhaani game where the players play these characters and are all goblinoids. This would be something we never atempted before.
Also it makes me realize that it might be time to start a campaign where I deal out the starting characters (or let the players choose from 6 premade characters) instead of letting them choose their own character class. Having them choose is nice ofcourse for them but it so often leads to very unbalanced parties that just don't have the skills for all round purposes.
