| Warmonger85603-27-07, 03:27 AM | So, I'm running a new Eberron game in a few days, and thought you guys might have some neat ideas for adventures/plots that would work. I've got some ideas already, but I'm always looking for more. The party's tenth level (yeah, I know), and we're going to hang around there for a while, so aim your ideas at that general area. The characters, (in various degrees of completion): Giacomo Bellariosa (human factotum 10), professional dungeon-delver and hero of the people. His name was mercilessly shortened to Jack Bell by unscrupulous chroniclers, and has stayed that way ever since. (forgot the first name) d'Deneith (human fighter 1/incarnate 9), a true child of Deneith, a consumate soldier and bodyguard. Possesses the Lesser Mark of Sentinel, and a Large adamantine greatsword that he pulled off a giant in Xen-drik. (unnamed) (changeling cleric of the Host 10), veteran of the last war. Bitter and cynical, but still cares just enough to donate healing potions to "those other d*** fool adventurers". (unnamed) (elf monk 6/ shadowdancer 4), 'marked member of House Phiarlan. Not too much character detail yet (player is reading through my copy of Dragonmarked as we speak) Rhen Haarac (or similar) (goblin something 10), known for wielding a two-bladed sword from a distressingly low height. Again, not much detail past that. I'm looking for stuff that would tie into one or two of the character's backgrounds, or homelands, or similar. So, start the idea mill rolling! |
| Warmonger85603-28-07, 03:44 PM | Not that I'm greedy or impatient or anything, but seriously, no ideas? |
| Daydreamer03-28-07, 04:19 PM | How far reaching and epic are u looking for? and what alignments are we looking at here. |
| DarthMidget03-28-07, 04:41 PM | Well what kind of stuff do the players want to do? Also, beginning at 10th level is a bit high-powered for my personal flavor of Eberron. I'm not being critical, but I am curious what inspired you folks to start at 10? |
| Daydreamer03-28-07, 04:44 PM | Where are you starting your campaign? |
| Daydreamer03-28-07, 05:43 PM | Ok, this is a plot that would lead to many succesive adventures-and hook them up for development as far as youd like to go. (do you have the book magic of Eberron-if not adapt as mentioned). Monsters manuel three is also used. Points of reference-this works best if the pcs are in a city of mid size or smaller-and preferbably near Karnnath rather than far away. The pcs hear rumors of a strange occurences with undead in a nearby community. (Either a plague bearer from MM3 or vour from MOE, ideally vour). If they travel to this town they will find a community in seculusion and highly xenophobic. The first objective is overcome the strange creature-either a plaguebearer with several lessor undead minions living in khyber near the town. Or vour which actually have there victims turn into the creatures themselves and there are several of them therefore. The pcs find on the plague bearer-or the 'original' vour (which should be slightly stronger than a standard one). Indications of it having escaped from capativity! Like the plague bearer having broken chains on its arms. investigations will lead them to Karnnath eventually, but perhaps the lazhaar principalities first, if its a plague bearer they might get wind of the illegal delivery of giant corpses! Eventually they uncover an order called 'The underworld loyalists'-this groups is tightly linked with the emerald claw, but has no ostensive commitment to that group. It is a political party composed of however many members you think appropriate that thinks King Kaius turn against the ways of the blood of vol and the undead in general has been largely problematic. These men are fanatics however-and you can have them crop up as often as you like with various undead with them. Eventually this group is tied to Karnnath, and a man named Count Vedim ir'omik. Quickly investigation reveals that this man is the cheif necromancer in Karnnath, officially charged with the upkeep and maintenance of the undead forces of Karnnath, this means skeletons and zombies , the kind found in the EBS book. Obviously he has become interested in creating and breeding new types of undead-he is probably the leader of the underworld loyalists, who seem commited to his cause. This organization was largely impotent since most of its members (including the count) are still officially loyal to Kaius. For some reason, only recently this group has been recieving aid from the emerald claw. The pcs have choices at this point, because of the recent influx of power this addition to the counts resources have made, he is moving in a more open manner than ever before, and Kaius has noticed. He might recruit the pcs to help him, -though he is not completely sure of the counts definite treachery he suspects much. The count doesn't want to rule, his ambitions are not political but perverse, and he seems to be bordering on madness. The count is not to be found in his home or work station, and investigations reveal he has some major undead curse that will bring many under the fold-the pcs also discover via asking around that someone else is looking for the count and is apparently has hostile intentions towards him. kaius-with the pcs help, or indepedently- also gets wind of this. (he plans to release several high level Wights on a community to create a town of Wights). The pcs must battle and stop this from happening-by either intercepting the wights, or perhaps if they are unlucky having to face the wights+the villagers they have turned, they might even have this encounter when the wights have already started the foul business. Perhaps by mere mortal disease, the remaining citizens of the town seem incredibly sick-Kaius fearing a magical undead plague has the citizens-the few remaining (or a small town) murdered (if the pcs have the power to investigate, the plauge is mundane not magical). If the pcs try to stop this they earn Kaius as an enemy. If they dont Kaius threatens them to keep silent or he will have them dealth with forever. Either way-the pcs are approached by an apparently benevolent fellow adventurer over the next few days. This man is hunting the count as well-and has heard of the pcs efforts to find him. The name given is 'Olonathianel' he is a half elf who claims his family was destroyed by the counts efforts. (Really he is a evil chanling priest of the blood of vol loyal to vol herself-level 11). He doesntseek the count (he has already found him, and he is an ally- If they go with him they do find the count but he turns on them quickly and the pcs must face him and the count (necromancer specalist level 13-14 and his undead). The count is aware of this before hand and its an ambush. If they dont go with him, the count comes to them and ambushes them with this Cleric. When the pcs slay the count they discover a journal- it contains Kaius very well kept secret-that he is in fact Kaius the first and a vampire.) Kaius is tipped off by an informant (connected to vol) that the pcs know who he is, and as such he goes after the pcs with some minions. The pcs now count Kaius as an enemy and he publically outs them as 'terrorists' for there killing of the count (still publically though to be a reputable official). This is to discredit what they might say about the count. Eventually if they choose to fight and not flee they uncover a secret just as shocking(they are led to this secret by vol herself) that the real Kaius is being kept prisoner by Kaius in the Lazhaazar principalities. (Real king kaius-figther 4th/sorceror 3rd), can be resuced and used to displace the current evil overlord. (just what vol wants-she has the ability to control this new Kaius-its her prison, not the vampire Kaius's, she dupes into that mistake). What Vol doesnt count on is that a follower loyal to the blood of vol-is not loyal to her, and if the pcs rescue the real king, will seek to help them displace Kaius, but also informs them about how vol has manipulated them. (lady Anatashia-blood of vol cleric-6). And gives them a quest to free the real Kaius from VOls magical control-my suggestion is something involving the DAeklry or flamekeep. The idea here is it gives the pcs to potentially face Kaius as an end bad guy, and from there have a platform to dealing with VOl herself as they earn her enimity for thwarting her plans. Of course the pcs might decide given vols ambitions for the throne fake Kaius should rule since he is strong and cunning enough to hold her back. Either way they should want to rescue the fake Kaius and cure him of vols control which will earn her rath. Take it from there. Now thats a long plot sorry about grammer. |
| Daydreamer03-29-07, 12:52 AM | If you want, i can spin out someting Daelkyr related as well, but shorter. |
| Warmonger85603-30-07, 01:44 AM | I'm not really looking for an entire storyline, just adventure ideas and twists that would fit with the group. The fact that they're 10th level is one of the player's idea; we'll play at this level, be the big, capable stars of the show, and not keep track of XP for a while. Yeah, there are more details now that the characters have been completed, here you go: Giacomo Bellarilusimo (NG human factotum 10), Sharn native, media darling, professional dungeon-delver and treasure hunter. Has a running contract with the Sharn Inquisitive for them to pay for his room whenever he's in town. Recently returned from a moderately successful delve in the Brelish hinterlands. Jay (N changeling cleric of the host 10), Cyran refugee, was fighting on foreign land on the Day of Mourning. Wandered 'aimlessly' since then, his faith in the Host keeping him going. Has kept himself fed by performing odd jobs in hamlets and villages he visited, in addition to providing priestly services. Vhid d'Phiarlan (LN elf monk 7/ shadowdancer 3), trained in a monastary 'somewhere in Aundair', and spends most of his time earning his keep dancing at some of Sharn's most prestigious halls. Posseses the Lesser Dragonmark of Shadow. Rhen Haar'ran (CG goblin ranger 2/ rogue 4/ 'master trickster' 4), from a now-dead tribe in Darguun, has worked his way into Breland doing good deeds. Rescued the survivors of a refugee caravan to New Cyre, and has traveled to Sharn to hire some workers to send back to help build the town up. Harad d'Deneith (LN human fighter 1/ incarnate 9), born in Karrnath, but has moved around so much on missions that it no longer matters. Completely professional and honor-bound warrior, currently between contracts and relaxing in Sharn. Posseses the Lesser Dragonmark of Sentinel. Notes on the classes; the factotum is from Dungeonscape, it's a jack-of-all-trades dungeon delving class. The incarnate is from Magic of Incarnum, shapes 'permanent' magical effects to aid in combat. The goblin has two prestige classes from Complete Scoundrel that I cannot remember the names of, but they both improve his skill tricks. The game has 'started', and all the characters have been invited to a soiree in Skyway, which came as quite a surprise to the goblin down in the cogs looking for laborers and the changeling who got his invitation as he walked through the city gates. From here, I'm looking for mostly one shot ideas, with the possibility for weaving in connections where they fit. I've got some plot ideas, but I always have trouble thinking of new things once I've got one good idea going. The draconic prophesy is going to be heavily involved, but I'd like help on the specifics. Thank you again, I'll try and provide input on some more threads here in the future :D |
| Kensan_Oni03-30-07, 03:16 AM | Let's see... a few random plots. -A mad cultist devoted to the Keeper is planning on setting a plague loose upon the city. He has created a infernal machine (A brewing pot powered by broken Khyber shards that held fire elementals at one time) to boil a vercacious brew, but he is still missing a few ingrediants. However, the Keeper is impatcient in this particular matter, and has sent Vrock to start spreading the plague, using a dust of disease. Unknownst to the People of the Cogs, under their feet a new colony of Dromites are making there first attempts at a new city in that delicate place between the skin of Eberron and Khyber. While their township is attracting attention of aboleths, which are using the distraction to climb up and snag workers from the Goblins of the Cogs, the Dromites are dangerously close to removing the foundation of several of the towers along the seaside border. It is a dangerous situation that needs heroes to straighten out. - The Gryphon Riding championship is once again being held in the marvelous City of Towers, when one of the Gryphons falls ill and falls out of the skys. The race is called off, and an investigation is launched to find the cause and the culprits responcible. In the meantime, the death of the noble is sparking tensions between Breland and another natiion, which is causing trouble inside the city proper. |
| Captain_Kobold04-03-07, 04:41 PM | As level 10 characters, the members of the party are likely to be famous, and regarded as major movers and shakers. Unless they have taken specific steps to stay out of the limelight, they will be known about by all of the major powers, and probably most of the people in the area they have adventured in. Possible plots: The Korranberg chronicle starts to print stories of some of the more famous exploits of one of the characters. (The character might have even sold the stories or the right thereof to them) The episodes begin to take a darker turn, painting the character in the worst possible light. The party must find out who the mysterious author is (the Chronicle is unlikely to tell them) and why they are trying to destroy the reputation of the character. All the while the rest of the party might have to decide whether all the stories are fictional, or whether they might contain a grain of truth. Minor skirmishes, and the occasional dead body begin to turn up around the party as two (or more) factions try to hire the group to take their side of a mission. All of the factions need a group for a difficult job but the party is the only high-level one in the area. Once it looks like one faction has successfully hired the party, the others may try to frame them for some of the earlier violence in the hope of getting them arrested or otherwise delayed on their mission. |
