The PCs in one of my Eberron groups just began a voyage to Xen'drik. They left Sharn in a Lyrandar sailing ship (not an elemental galleon) called the Wave's Bounty and will be en route for about 11-12 days. I'm looking for ideas for encounters or events that would be interesting.

In case it makes a difference, the party is 7th lvl and consists of a human Pal3/Clr2/Exorcist of the Silver Flame2, a warforged Ftr2/Scout4/Extreme Explorer1, a human Wiz6/Alienist1, a shifter Drd7, and a human Artificer7. They're also accompanied by a fire mephit that has taken a shine to them. The group has been hired to accompany an expedition into the continent's interior, and are being accompanied by Dala Arand (S:Cot, pg. 73) and four helpers (they expect to meet a guide and others in Stormreach).

Besides them, the ship is carrying a dozen more passengers, a crew of thirty sailors, six marines (War3 each), the ship's 'mage' Daelan (an expatriate Aereni elf Art6), the first mate Bly (changeling Ftr1/Brd4), and the captain, Syrina d'Lyrandar (Rgr4/Exp3).

Any suggestions?

-Make them meet a pirate ship is always good fun, Q'barra pirates can be everywhere for what I know.

-A sea monster?

-What about a shauagin(sp) raiding party?

-Maybe some bad weather that push them out from their route and they must stop to an island for minor repair/get some fresh water or food. From there anything could happen, a savage tribe of drows, a giant monkey, some misterious ruins, whatever.

- Have them find a rowboat loaded with dismembered Warforged and have a Warforged Scout (MM3) be found in the heap of junk. If brought back to life he can report of a pirate ship that attacked his ship. The ship can attack the party, or they can be found in Stormreach (identified by the Warforged Scout), and the scout can make a good, well scout for the party, or the scout could be a agent for the Lord of Blades.

-The party finds a shipwrecked mariner that actually is possessed by a demon or is a rakshasa zakya or something. It tries to disrupt/ aid the party depending on it's goals. It could also manipulate the party into freeing a Raja or something. It could even kill Dala and masquerade as her to help move the party into the desired direction and infiltrate the Emerald Claw!

-get caught in the middle of a war between Sea elves and the Sahaugin in Shargon's teeth.

-Get Shipwrecked and encounter the Crimson Ship...

- The Water Elemental gets set loose and attacks the ship...

- have them hounded by Pirates all the way to Stormreach.

-Seasickness!

Mutiny on board the (waves's)Bounty! The Changeling first mate could stage his own death at the party's hands, take on the form of one of the PCs and lead a crew of rebeliouos sailors against them and the captain- or somthing equaly dramatic.

I myself am partial to the Sauhaugin raiding party idea too; send a few of those four armed ones with magic weapons and levels in Barbarian on board the ship with a Malenti wizard as back up, and you have yourself quite a battle.

Thanks for the suggestions, folks.

I have to admit that the changeling first mate's name and the ship's name were purely intentional, just so that at some point I could raise the specter (whether it actually happens or not) of Captain Bly and the mutiny on the Bounty :D And yes, I know I need help!

The PCs in this group have actually had two run-ins with sahuagin before, so they really don't trust them, which is why I'm leaning towards a sahuagin attack with a twist. Here's the idea:

While passing through the Straits of Shargon, the ship is swarmed by sahuagin. After a certain amount of combat, somebody (a sahuagin or an NPC from the ship) negotiates and they realize that the sahuagin aren't inherently hostile. They apparently have been having problems with a bunch of creatures raiding their settlements and have lost something valuable. This isn't one of the stronger sahuagin tribes, so they figure they'll get the crazy surfaceworlders to deal with the problem for them. So if a group from the ship (i.e. the PCs) is willing to help recover what they've lost, they'll let the ship pass and will guide it through the straits. If not, they'll cause problems and harass the ship.

That opens up the possibility of a fun underwater adventure. Maybe a sunken ship occupied by scrags or a family of were-sharks.
