For those who don't know...
WOTVB=Wispers of the Vampires Blade
GOTEC=Grasp of the Emerald Claw

BTW - If you are one of my players... THEN STOP READING!

I am planning on running a series of encounters outside the normal ones presented in the WOTVB and GOTEC modules. I intend on creating a more complex web of hooks to make it come to life. Outside the game world, the one real problem I’m having at the moment is a lack of time from certain key players for the next 2-3 months, after which schedules should be good again. So I decided to run a few solo and other smaller D&D sessions that would somehow tie into the modules. This way I continue to DM D&D and my players who are available at different times can also continue to play. I am wondering if I could get some ideas / suggestions. This is what I have thus far…

A new character is coming into the group, a 1st level rogue. He’s a womanizer of sorts who preys on woman and then robs them. Not an evil character, but a slightly misguided one with little coin to his name. The player will be playing this character one on one with me and the idea is that he will somehow become close with Lady Elaydren d’Canith who was a key figure in the first adventure. He then will be approached by a shady figure offering big time gold if he would steal a chest containing certain items from Lady Elaydren. The reasoning would be that she is working for Merix and the items are meant to be used for Evil purposes, so not only will the lucky rogue get the woman and the coin, but he will also work towards a grander endeavor that serves the good of all! This will tie into the beginning of the 3rd module where the shemas and pattern should be stolen but are not found by the Emerald Claw. The Rogue would not know what he has stolen unless he opens up the small chest it’s in. He would be instructed not to do so or he would forfeit his reward and be an outlaw. The rogue will be chased by the Claw (if he got away in the first place!) once they discover that another man had been at the house that night and probably took the items. Eventually when the characters get to the 3rd module, it would be interesting to see how they deal with a character who may be responsible for the stolen items. They are already hiding from a massive masacre outside the Broken Anvil and don’t want to attract more attention to them. Lady Elaydren wouldn’t have known that the items were stolen by the Rogue, and assume the Claw took them (unless the Rogue was sloppy and wakes her up or seomthing while stealing it!). Eventually the heroes make their way back to their headquarters where there will be a big encounter with the Claw who have tracked down and trapped the Rogue (or it will al take place outside the house where the Claw caught the Rogue). Then the module should begin.

All this is happening in advance of the 3rd module before we even play the 2nd, so I can keep one of the players busy while the others are unavailable.

As for the second module, I am not sure yet how to run it. I have 3-5 separate sessions in the next 3 months with my players, not all of whom will attend all the sessions. I am trying to figure out a way to have each of the scenes in the module take place separately with 3 different groups of 2 players/characters, and then have it all come together in the end.

ARGHHHHH!

Any ideas? :confused:

I personaly don't like WOTVB, and i guess i'll skip this one and work on the players' background till they get lvl 6 or so, and then i put them back on GOTEC...

WOTVB don't have anything to do with the main plot (wich is the Cannith stuff), only a few "enconters", so you can arrange that anyway you like.

Hum, "time issue" really sux... normally our games here don't last long when it happens... but, if you can manage to GM solo sessions, than i think you should work on it...

Yes - I agree.

It seems like a good adventure, but nothing to do with the main reason they've been searching for these Schemas since the Forgotten Forge. They are still at level 4 which isn't good enough to go straight into the 3rd module, so I have to run something to boost them. Since I have it, I may as well run the module but I want to infuse it with more than just chasing some renegade spy and his sword. I've created re-curring villains and other campaign specific sub plots, but there is only so much that can be done for 2 levels!

That's ok, considering that GotEC starts at lvl 6, your players will be right there when it starts...
