How do the people issuing those identification papers(probably House Sivis and ?) check if you are who you say you are? Is it as easy as I think it is to use magic like Alter Self to easily get legal but false identification papers? How do changelings affect these issues? |

You have to provide proof that you are who you say you are, which can be a real pain in the rear. Birth records, witnesses who do have ID who are willing to sign legal documents saying you are who you say you are, etc. |
| lonewolf01-13-08, 08:38 PM | That works in a modern society(and even there its different from nation to nation). I highly doubt that birth certificates exist for the general population when only "most people of middle and upper classes" have identification papers at all. There are no such things as Drivers licenses and the idea that every person should have a document that proves who he says he is, is a pretty modern one. |
| Nived01-13-08, 08:45 PM | It says "Most people of the middle and upper class, in the most civilized areas of Khorvaire, carry identification papers with them at all times." That doesn't mean that lower class people have no form of legal identification. |

Particularly in Karrnath, under martial law with manditory military service... they'd have a vested interest in knowing how many citizens they have and where they can find them. |

| Waywalker01-16-08, 07:43 PM | I feel that House Sivis would have a magical system in place that would identify a person. You've brought up the obvious trouble of a Changeling or someone using Alter Self, and I believe that House Sivis is experienced enough to be prepared for just such things. In my mind, there is a small booth that you walk in to that is, in effect, either a Dispel Magic or a Zone of Truth. You walk in, state your name, and if you're telling the truth they tell teh authorities. Legal papers should be fairly easy to get, if you're a law-abiding citizen. Falsifying such (legal) documents should be more intensive, although a truly false document in itself would not be that difficult. |
