| Tek09-27-05, 09:03 PM | I haven't read the book yet and probably won't for awhile, but the new "Breed" race in Magic of Eberron seems kind of like it'll be a way to introduce the Incarnum into Eberron, so I'm not really going to say anything on this topic until that comes out. Aswell, there has been a pretty big discussion on this a few pages back, and it had some pretty good points (I think!) |
| Arcane Guyver09-27-05, 09:17 PM | Honestly, it seems cool and useful, but I think that AND psionics might be a little much. Psionics are sort of a self-contained magic system that is deeply ingrained in the world of Eberron....adding a whole other one that wasn't meant for Eberron seems a very potential headache for players, especially those still new to the world. |
| Sucros09-27-05, 09:39 PM | In my campaign, incarnum is the stuff of warforged souls. Warforged already have a few properties similar to incarnum, such as the body that magically shapes itself as they progess as warfoged titans and their high constitution. Incarnum is a secret giant magic that was lost to the ages, save for a few small drow clans who practice a bastardized version called totemism, that is so far removed from incarnum that it is nearly indistinguisable. Only a small number of the higest ups in the three house Canniths have any knowledge of incarnum, and that's the way they want it, as understanding the principles of incarnum is the first step towards making a creation forge. Merrix is the only baron with the entirety of the knowledge Cannith had at the creation of the forge, and will do anything to keep the knowedge to himself. Cannith's East and West will both use any means necessary to get their hands on knowledge pertaining to incarnum, and then keep this knowledge from anyone else. The issue could be exasperated as one or some warforged discover how to harnass the power of the souls from which they were born, becoming soulborn or incarnates. People would fear this new warforged magic, which the LoB would undoubtedly try and hoard for himself. Meanwhile, Cannith may do its best to try and keep incanum under wraps. Some elite cannith members in the inner circle could be trained in the giant magic and will employ their powers to halt "defective" warforged. |

| Zagumus09-28-05, 08:11 AM | I am going to fiddle with the Totemist to make them interested in Aberration instead of Magical beasts and make them followers of The Dragon Below. I think this will be a good way to introduce them into the game, quickly other group will adapt the technique for themselves. Totemist will be mostly located in Shadow Marches and Xen'drik Incarnate and Soulborn will come from other more civilized places I don't think I will ever fully explain were it came from or why, at least to the players, but sense you seem so interested . As the age of the dragons comes to an end the age of heros is begining, the power of souls is what drives this age and the reason that Incarnum is becoming strong enough to have an effect. The Dragon Below creeps just got it first because of there willingness to experiment and strong beliefs. |
| lugnut7109-28-05, 10:38 AM | I've been fiddling with making it the oldest form of magic. That paracticed by the demons. Rakashas would bind like x level incarnates (or whatever can be neutral evil) instead of sorcerors. Also they would favor necronate powers. |
| Ashrem Bayle09-28-05, 11:20 AM | ...but the new "Breed" race in Magic of Eberron... "Breed" race? Could you point me toward the source of this information please? |
| Salla09-28-05, 11:27 AM | I don't have the book yet, but from what I've read it definitely sounds cool enough to try; though I'm not going to make it old magic, I'm thinking I'm going to make it NEW magic. My plan, thus far, is to have a Cultist of the Dragon Below create an Eldritch Machine designed to siphon/absorb the souls from a large area into itself; that energy will then be shot skyward, into the Ring of Siberys, weakening it so that the restraints on Khyber will be weakened (at least, that's what he thinks; he's kinda nutso. Alienist levels and all that). BUT, I'm reasonably certain I can rely on my PCs to break it, especially if I can time it right so that they arrive shortly before it goes off. At the very least, I'll try to tweak it so it gets redirected, firing at a moon (and if that don't work, I'll just have it overload from too many souls). This, of course, is what opens the way for the soul-energy of Incarnum to seep into Eberron. |
| MysticTheurge09-28-05, 04:58 PM | I'm kind of liking making it an old Giant Empire type magic, something pre-Arcane spellcasters, before the Giants developed modern Arcane magic. It also makes it easy to add them in via lost Xen'drik stuff. |
| ryanroyce09-28-05, 09:53 PM | I'd introduce Incarnum-in-Eberron as the lost-but-recently-discovered magical art of an ancient lizardfolk civilization (i.e., the mishtai) in Q'barra and go from there. Ryan |
| FenrysStar10-04-05, 02:04 AM | some very interesting ideas flying around this forum. Personally I agree with the idea of this being an ancient art of the giants, long forgotten save for certain races and thus an ancient secret kept locked away in Xen'Drik until a bunch of PCs or NPCs find it and bring its wonders back to Khorvaire. Although I am not sure about the mishtai as two other races in Incarnum are tied to that concept and I will deffinately keep that if I use the book in my upcoming ideas for Eberron. |
| mhacdebhandia10-04-05, 02:45 AM | "Breed" race? Could you point me toward the source of this information please? Dragon Magazine #336: "Designers Bruce Cordell, Steven Schubert and Chris Thomasson unleash more Eberron arcana in this month's Magic of Eberron. New artificer spells, dragonshard items, grafts, and wild new totem magic rituals make up a merely a few of the additions found in this tome of mysteries. A new character race called the Breed, the blood magus base class, prestige classes (like the dragon prophet, elemental scion, and impure prince), new monsters, numerous symbionts and homunculi and even some psionics also make Magic of Eberron much more than just a book of spells."
