Spoiler Warning! If you are a player and have not read Sharn:CoT, please do not continue. Also, this a rather long post and is detailed. Feel free to read and comment, but also please try to answer my question at the bottom.

I don't often have problems incorporating PCs into a campaign, but I am having one now. Well, not really... Allow me to explain...

Some of my fellow Eberron Elitist Colleagues will remember that I posted a thread very early this year on the TPK my players got themselves into. That campaign was focused on the growth of the Warforged, the machinations of House Cannith, and eventually a dual campaign arch involving the Mourning and the Lord of Blades. One of the PCs in the group was a 'forged named 'Wrack.' Wrack was crafted by Merrix after the Treaty of Thronehold. Wrack was geared to eventually face the LoBster in an ultimate showdown. But he and everyone with him were slain in a temple deep in Xendrik.
My intention with the game then was to bring the PCs to an Epic level, defeat the LoBster, unite House Cannith (one PC being a Cannith Heir,) investigate the Mourning (gaining clues but never truth) and in general have a good time. Once Epic, the clues about the Mourning would lead the PCs to the Daelkyr (who would eventually get released, yada yada yada.)

My players and I had fallen in love with Eberron though, and weren't yet ready to move on. (Still aren't!) They made new PCs and I switched campaign foci. One of my players had chosen to play a Deneith Heir born & raised in Sharn. Bonus: he wanted to play a Soulknife! By this point, I had also come to really enjoy the concept of the Dreaming Dark.

So I went that route. Instead of waiting to have the players face off against the Daelkyr at Epic levels, I had them involved in Cult of the Dragon Below plots immediately. Plus problems with Daask, the Boromar politics, religious intrigue (two players being members of the CoSF, one a Cleric the other a Paldain.)

All in all, we played eight months of great in-depth RP with lots of action and stayed with in the confines of Sharn. There was inernational politics, intra-House politics, betrayal, manipulation, Prophecy, familial & friendship challenges. There was marriage (arranged,) soon-to-be marriage (not arranged,) there were births of children (for a campaign set in Neo Sharn for more of an Anime-style game I'll run down the road.)
There was also the ever present cthulu-esque presence of the CoDB, their Minions & Masters and plots. Behind much of what occured was the Dreaming Dark and the Inspired, with the Kalashtar doing nothing.

Much of the basic organization of my plots & archs was inspired by you great people here on-line. I still reference posts & threads printed & saved from December, before and since. And for that, I thank you all.

But guess what?

Yep, you guessed it, my players are dead. Again. This time it wasn't a TPK, just a near-TPK (2 of 5 made it away.) One was completely slain (eaten by an illithid & animated by a Dark Naga.) The other two were made into VoidMinds (MMIII) and will return later as enemies. The two who escaped are the newest addition to the game, a 'forged Juggernaught, and the Changeling Rogue-Paladin who is not even an officially recognized member of the Church of the Silver Flame (became a Paland ICly and has yet to even visit Flamekeep.)

This time the group took a wild guess (which was accurate) and went one way down an adventure 'path' that lead straight into a nest of Illithid, their Voidmind Blackgaurd General, their Dark Naga Preistess her Umber Hulk guardian. These creatures were intended to be broken up into several encounters, beginning at party EL-2 and ending at party EL+2. This actual encounter ended up being party EL+5.

I allowed two of my players to return as their original characters. They group had been slain by a half-fiend ogre adept and her ogre guards while trying to steal a 'forged-sized syberis dragonshard for Merrix d'Cannith. The ogress was a member of the Lords of Dust, serving to foment their worship throughout the jungle. The temple she resided in had existed since before the Dragon-Giant Wars tens of thousands of years ago.

Dark magics had been performed there, and a little pocket of the Abyss had been created on the upper most levels of the temple. So with a little DM 'metagaming' I ruled that the souls of the PCs were sucked into the giant dragonshard rather than passing on. Since the 'forged (Wrack) was wearing a Preservation Circlet, his soul also survived (and was NOT sucked into the crystal.) House Cannith had continued sending parties of adventurers to capture this giant siberys dragonshard. They attracted the attention of the Drow, who went to investigate and eventually destroyed the shard and the ogres there.

Here's the funky part... The soul of one PC, a former Valenar Ranger, refused to pass on into Dolurrh. The strange metaphysics of the locale allowed him to "reinhabit" a body, one of the Drow slain during the battle (my idea, not his.) :D He repaired his 'forged buddy (who'd become a statue decorated by the ogres) which reactivated the Circlet.

Now, here is my problem that I need help with.

Wrack's player is set on playing this PC. But at the same time, he has expressed a desire to "feel fulfilled." IE, he still wants his ultimate showdown with the LoBster.

I've wracked my brians... :D Sorry, had to be done. Anyhow, I've thought hard on how to work the Lord of Blades into my campaign archs of the Inspired and the Daelkyr. And all to no avail.

Should I bother trying? Can you suggest anything? I want to preserve plausibility. In general, I aim for a bit of 'x-files' style in my DMing of the current campaign. There are layers within layers within layers. Nothing happens without a reason, even if that reason is not relevant or apparent.

Basically, how can I incorporate a minor arch dealing with the LoB while still holding true to my main plot of the Inspired/Daelkyr?!

We have a thread for this called "Campaign Help" down below.

I don't see what the problem is though. Have The Lord of Blades dealing with the demons for his plots to sweep the Eberron clean of human scum. Occasionally throw in his agents to deal with the PCs and also as henchmen to the main villains while saying that he's financing whatever cults/etc are at work.

A quiet little war has just started between the Inspired and the Lord of Blades.
What happened is the LoB’s people stumbled into a Dreaming Dark operation in the Mornlands and they killed all of them and took the object that the Dreaming Dark was retrieving from one of their old bases. The Inspired returned the favor in a small Warforged community that was in reality a LOB’s hidden cell used to hinder the fleshiest commerce by removing selected travelers and merchants from this world all that was left of their bodies was find powder. The Players problem is that they were passing through at the time and were the only strangers in town and this is what the Dreaming Dark counted on the LOB’s people seeing what they believe the players killing his people.

This allows you to have the LOB’s people get involved with your plots.

Those are definately things to consider, and I shall. And yet, I think you both missed the meat of my request.

This game is central to Sharn, the heroes have never left the immediate vicinity of the City of Towers. I'm trying to develop a plausible method by which I can tie the Lord of Blades into my current plots.

I don't think the LoBster would fit very well with the Inspired. He & his servants certainly wouldn't work with, fund, serve, whatever the Cult of the Dragon Below. Though they might try to manipulate events surrounding the Lord of Blades, just as the Lords of Dust &/or the Inspired might.

Drow don't live In Sharn or even near it.
That is why I thought your players had traveled to the lost continent.

As for everything must be in Sharn for your game Just change Mornlands to Under Sharn in the old Goblin ruins, and the Inspired retaliation to a Lower Sharn Flat that the Characters passed that night.

I'd say the Inspired would strengthen their post-war political bonds (post-war being the best time to make friends) by egging the LoB into war. Once war begins and the warforged loyal to the LoB or who just don't like being seen as lessers revolt, the Inspired will offer their military to aid the nations and maybe even use the war as a reason for certain leaders who go missing only to be replaced by distant relatives (who are mostly unprotected and now Mind-Seeded).

For the Daelkyr, use this as the background for the LoB: the first warforged created, the LoB was used mostly as a guinea pig. He was the first to have sensory depravation tests performed on him. In other words, House Cannith took him, dumped him in a grave, and buried him alive. While trapped beneath the soil, the warforged who would become the Lord of Blades began to slowly go mad by being panicked at first, then depressed with his fate, then bored with the lack of activities. Soon, he would begin to have internal dialogues and even conversations between multiple personas. A daelkyr lord trapped in Khyber saw a golden opportunity in this 'forged, and entered his mind. The LoB only assumed that the new voice was merely his own creation like the rest, but it soon dominated his mind. Now that the LoB is strong and his followers numerous, the Daelkyr Lord commands him to siege Sharn and destroy a powerful artifact beneath the City of Towers that binds the Daelkyr Lord. Warforged will attack the city in hordes, dolgrims and dolgaunts will spill out of Khyber, secret members of the Cult of the Dragon Below will appear, and Sharn will be in for a memorable fight.

The original players had. :D They're returning to join the current game.

Good pointers! Thanks!
