Indices for S:CoT, 5 Nations, Explorer's Handbook? [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-30-05, 11:29 AM Does anyone know if there are any plans to offer indices for these books as errata or web enhancements? I've looked all over WotC site, and scoured the sticky threads, but I can't find any mention of it. If not, I am seriously considering either writing my own index for each book or one master index for all for books and posting online (NOTE: indices only; not actual book content). I'm not actually sure if this would infringe upon the copyright, but there is a definate need for indexes.

Best hope is for a fan to put one together and provide it online. I was thinking of doing the same thing. :)

As for copyright infringement, I doubt it'll be an issue. The index would guide people to relevant pages and information, not provide that information.

Edit: As a suggestion, you might want to do separate indices rather than one master index for all books. Doing them one at a time won't make it feel like so much work. :)

09-30-05, 12:44 PM I believe hellcow has put together an index for atleast one of those books on his website. Ya random advertisement of other products that most likely the buyers of the books already own is more important than an index to make the book useable...

09-30-05, 12:59 PM Yes, Keith is kind enough to make up an index for the Eberron books he works on, and puts them up on his website (www.bossythecow.com (http://www.bossythecow.com)), but I doubt he's got the time or the inclination to make an index for books he didn't work on.

I would suggest, however, that you write a letter (a real one, with a stamp and everything, not an email) and send it to WotC expressing your displeasure with the lack of an index. If they get enough real letters (email doesn't carry the same weight as snailmail), they might start adding them from now on.

Somehow I doubt lack of money is the problem here.

Lack of commitment to doing a good job is the problem here. They are too interested in flooding the market with one HC after another to be too concerned with the quality of any one product. As long as people keep buying them up, why go to the extra effort?
