This seems kind of low - a skycoach pilot could make more than this in a mere matter of hours, at a rate of 1sp per mile. A quick web search reveals that real world private investigators charge approx £50 an hour, approx £350 a day - which would translate as way more than 10 sp. A real world detective would have to work approx 4 days out of the month to pay his rent, an Eberron inquisitive at least 20, unless he wants to live in a slum. Whilst inquisitives in the noir world of Eberron are far more likely to come across work than real world detectives, this still seems very unbalanced - especially when the same character, probably a rogue, could make way more as a run of the mill adventurer. Any thoughts? |

Staying at the good inns, eating well, buying himself new weapons and armor as needed, those would all be "expenses". So basically, you're paying for everything he buys, plus you're paying him an extra 10-20 silver on top of that for the actual work. Compare that to everybody else. Thats 1-2 gold a day, or 7-14 gold a week. Thats equivolant to the pay of a skilled worker with a skill check of 14-28. Assuming they take 10, thats a commoner/expert with a +4 to +18 on his profession checks, without him actually needing to be 5th level plus to actually get that much money. So he's actually making money right in line with other dedicated professionals, just in his normal fee. I don't see anybody paying the max ranked blacksmith's room and board, on top of his normal business. :) |
