There are alot of stories that lurk around about players doing themselves in silly and amusing ways. Well, I want to hear about the ways those plans actully work. The time a major villian was done in by a cocky hero with a kitchen knife tied to a sitck.

I'll get it started. At the start of the current campaign, the players were a group of level one guards for a house sponsored mineing operation. One thing leads to another and they are attacked by goblins several of whom are rideing on an allosaurus. So as the goblins send in the dino to punch a hole in the hasty defences, the plays get the idea to take it out. but they can't hope to take it out in a fair fight. So they hatch a plan to trip it with rope.

The plan goes less then smoothly. One play is nearly eaten, and the rest are lying prone after the first turn. Then things started to turn around. the next turn they remembered they had actions points (Most had never played Eberron before so forgetting that is hardly unexpected) Nearly eaten guy uses it to stableize, then the whole party gives one hack of a pull, burn an action point, while the dino blows the opposed roll. And down he goes. A few charges and attacks of oppertunity later, things are looking up.

Except for the half eaten guy, who is still in a pool of his own blood, but he pulls through later on.

That was a crazy night. Earlier they assassinated the leader of the expedition with a chicken bone.

This was in a different setting and 2nd edition but funny...I once had a PC Ranger (urban) that was trying to rescue a lady trapped in the second or third story of a burning brothel. The lady was seen in the widow but then collapsed due to heavy smoke. My PC decided that going in to get her was just not happening. (we're about 1st level as I recall) So instead I got the idea to use my PC's rope and grapple hook to climb up and get her. Long story longer...

The grapple hook was perfect thru the window but... ended up piercing the young lady who lay helpless and unconscious at the base of the window. (My die rolls were worse than "1's" and the DM was a deviously brilliant DM) My PC didn't really know this and began to climb up thinking he had just found a good solid hold.

As he made his climb, he naturally weighed more than the girl and ended up pulling her thru the window by the embedded hook, both of them falling to the street below.

The only reason she didn't die was because she landed on my PC. He took a ton of damage for a 1st level PC and was knocked unconscious ( I think he actually went to -8 or 9). I was taken off by my partner.

She was later described to have had a permanent scar and was hidiously deformed by my PC. She could no longer make a living at the brothel and had vowed to find and exact vengence on the one who scarred her. :)

Anyway it worked, I managed to save her life even if it meant disfigurement for her and major down time for my PC and in weird twist, I provided my DM a nice reoccurring villian to torment my PC and many future adventures around that one attempted act of heroism.

Now, my PC's just watch the buildings burn... :whatsthis

Player got a warforged titan corpse, had his buddies in Cannith fix it up, make it an animated object, hollow it out, install a magic mouth, add two arms, one a water/liquid cannon, the other a giant pair of scissors, marches into the Great Crag, claims to be an emissary from the Lord of Blades to negotiate aid in a push against Breland. The operator of the Titan uses his lyre of building to build a statue of himself in the town square. A war troll guard is not happy with this, they fight, he grapples and cuts the troll in half with the scissor arm, then talks his way out of it. They attend the banquet where the negotiations are held, then play Three Dragon Ante for their lives (unbeknownst to them).

I let it slide for pure creativity.

I had a devious trap/plot device set up. The players had a very close friend NPC. He got kidnapped. They found the dungeon he was in. There was a wall that they could push forward to get into another room, unfortunately, their friend was tied to an altar on the other side of the large room ahead, and pushing the wall forward caused it to hurtle towards their friend. being that the section of wall was attached to the ceiling by a chain.

They thought for a long time, much longer than the second or two they had IN GAME. The freakishly strong bugbear threw the gnome cleric at the section of wall, who cast Control Stone or whatever spell that is that lets you reshape stone. He made the chain drop the stone and they thought they'd saved the day. Then I described in slow motion a hunched giant (Fiend Folio?) rising up from behind the altar and slitting their friend's throat, killing him.

Then they all nearly died. That was some meat grinder of a fight. A Glabrezu and a great wyrm black dragon waiting on the ceiling to spit acid at the cleric for killing his mate in the previous adventure. And this was at 11th level.

Running from a Mature Adult Black Dragon the party psion decided to try and take a stand, thinking he had no where to run to. Knowing the dragon had already killed the tank of the party, the psion turned to face the dragon. He brought forth a boosted Mind Thrust (Will save DC 17) and crossed his fingers. Laughing inside, I grabbed the die and began to cast it, knowing the dragon had a 15 Will save there was little doubt that this party of lvl 9 characters was about to be TPKed for fighting an encounter they were never ment to. As the die landed on the one I realized that I would now have to change how the players where looked at. Heros no more, the surviving three became gods in the eyes of many as the dragon (now at -1 hp) crashed to the ground and the party fighter delt the Cope de Grace.... I am still stunned that a CL 9 party beat a CR 14 dragon. And here I was ready to simply lay waist to them all.

there was this one player in my group that was really bad. first he tried to jump from one car to another on a lightning rail, the widest part too. he rolled a one on his jump check. then in another adventure he killd a good cleric that was with the party. so of course one of the players killed him. i decided to be nice so i let his character to come back but with major penalties. so whats the first thing he does when he sees the party? he goes "im the one who killed the ceric." need less to say he was killed again.

I once overheard my little brother's campaign while I was cleaning my room. He was DMing for a couple of 14 year olds, one a paladin and the other a bard. First game for both of them. They had both just witnessed different parts of a kidnapping and subsequently spotted each other down an ally. Each thinking that the other was a villian, the bard dives into the shadows as the paladin comes charging after him. The gm says "You come to the spot where you saw the man dive out of sight. You can see the lower half of his body sticking out from behind a pile of garbage." He failed his roll. I thought it was a little harsh to make him look that bad for a failed roll, but he went with it. My brother asked the bard what he wanted to do. The kid looked at him for a second and then said "I pretend to be drunk." Genious!

Well, it was one players last day playing in the campaign. We hadn't decided how we would write him out, but the guy was playing a crazy mage who freaked the rest of the party right out to where he had been beaten into negative HP more than once and shot with arrows more than once. Anyway, he was an Elf named Glantral Lantree.
He left with another character to get a load of weapons from a cache we had under an old tree, this was in a country where weapons were illegal so we had to hid them. My character, a local tavern bully and another guy playing a equal jacka$$ went to town to find out where the leader of our party had gone. We went to the Elvish restaurant that he had last been seen at to ask questions and ended up getting thrown out when we threatened to break the managers thumbs. Later that night we came back with intentions of having a nice meal. We were not allowed in so we put a big stink and told them not to mess with friends of Glantral Lantree or else... The I peed on the step and we left. As we took off we asked for a recommendation of another restaurant in town, they pointed up towards the war-hammer, a dwarven restaurant. I said thanks and that I would tell them they had sent us there.
At the Dwarven restaurant we told them that the Elves had just thrown us out and told us "You $hits! you can go eat with the other @#$%s down at the @#$% hole over there you @#$%y @#$%s!" Then we spent 150GP buying round for all the dwarves and got them all drunk. We then got them all riled up and led a mod down the street and got them chanting "Glantral Lantree!". They then stormed the elven restaurant, beat up the patrons and burned it to the ground, all in the name of Glantral.
Then we went and posed as brothers on the trail of a man who raped our sister and I identified the man as Glantral Lantree. The elvish authorities found him hiding in a hotel, arrested him and hung him at dawn.

I was DMing a while ago and the players needed to find out what was in a house with out letting any one find out they where trying too. There was a monk a druid and a bard. Every one but the bard bought novelty mustaches and posed as novelty mustache salesmen. The best part was when they opened the door the man had a full beard and they just kept talking like he was going to buy it. Later that night they broke in and killed him.
