I was wondering, thinking over the new elements from Complete Scoundrel, whether it would be balanced and reasonable to convert the feats Investigate and Research into Skill Tricks rather than feats.

I seem to remember that some people already use them as expanded skill uses without the need for feats in their houserules, but I'd like to get a general opinion on how bad/good such a change would be.

Thanks.

That's actually a pretty good idea...in fact, you could almost expand this thought process to other semi-crappy skill-based feats like Appraise Magical Value, Cloak Dance, Cunning Evasion, Ecclesiarch, Fade Into Violence, Hear the Unseen, Quick Reconnoiter, Track, Urban Tracking.

Thanks! Yes, some of those feats could quite easily become Skill Tricks by the same logic. Perhaps also things such as Keen Eared Scout, and, though I am less sure about this, Master Manipulator.

I think this is a great idea! Some other ideas might also include:
Interaction -
Intimidating Strike (PHII)
Wanderer's Diplomacy (PHII)
Improved Diversion (CAd)

Manipulation -
Trap Engineer (DS)

Mental -
Extraordinary Concentration (CAd)
Extraordinary Spell Aim (CAd)
Mobile Spellcasting (CAd)

Movement -
Combat Acrobat (PHII)
Tumbling Feint (PHII)
Sand Dancer/Sand Spinner (SS)

Any thoughts? For the feats everyone has mentioned previously, do people use the same prerequisites listed for the feat? How have these worked out for you? Have you formulated any new skill tricks?

I actually just put Urban Tracking, Investigate, and Research as part of Gather Information, Search, and Knowledge to begin with. It makes sense, IMO, 'cause tracking people through cities, investigating locations, and looking through books is what I would think would be things anyone trained in those skills could use.
