| Uratoh06-28-06, 06:24 PM | For an upcoming villain, Dagger (from the WF Assassin topic), she's a Scout/Dread Commando. Mithril Body is in all ways mechanically superior to Ironwood Body for her, for higher dex bonus, ability to be improved on dex bonus, etc...and the dex penalty's irrelevant to it in either case due to Dread Commando. But Ironwood fits her 'theme' so well of a stealthy woodland warrior...is there any way to fit mithril into this? |
| Edymnion06-28-06, 06:46 PM | You could always simply rewrite the flavor for the Shadow enchantment for armor and say its camo like a gilly suit instead of dark and blurry. |
| Bluebrush06-28-06, 06:47 PM | Maybe give her plating made from Bronzewood (ECS) or Darkwood (DMG) and stat it as Mithril. Just say she's still vulnerable to heat/chill metal and such as she has some metal showing. That or say the Wood that's showing is just some kind wood laquer for camoflage. |
| KhanSemus06-28-06, 06:48 PM | Well, Ironwood I always thought of being as more 'blocky', especially since it has less of a Max Dex. You can blacken the mithril, and it is more form-fitting. Maybe just an enamel covering or paint job. |

All that is required is to steam the wood so you can unwrap wrings, then slap it on what you want. Lamination is a very old technique, so yeah, it would be quite possible in Eberron. |

I'm not so concerned about the "how is it done." I'm sure that Eberron has at least hide glue. It's the oldest glue in our world and it's still one of the strongest (unless it gets wet which would be one problem for laminating a "person" who may occasionally be in damp environments. Two concerns, though, are cutting wood thin enough to laminate. Historically, it's done in narrow strips because it's hard to plane down wide pieces of wood with block planes or knives ... large-scale commercial lamination puts entire treetrunks on a lathe and turns them into laminate with 10' shaving knives; a technology I doubt Eberron could duplicate. A warforged plates are generally wider than a typical block-plane so completely covering them would require separate strips and grain matching which is tedious and difficult. Would it be worth it to the WF to wait that long to have it done? The other issue, as mentioned above, is the need for a waterproof glue. Like I said, hide glue is strong and will form a bond that will last hundreds of years in the right conditions, but it fails easily with the application of water. There's always Sovereign Glue, but that's got a pretty high caster level to make, doesn't it? Maybe a really good woodworker (high level commoner or expert) could afford one pot of SG and use it for their "masterwork" furniture. You certainly wouldn't want that cabinet you made for King Boranel to fall apart! :) |
| aelryinth06-29-06, 02:56 PM | Also remember that you are dealing with magic and warforged. She was simply made with a thin layer of wood covering most or all of her metal parts, or it simply 'grew' that way as she gained levels. If Ironwood body Druids can grow sprouts, I don't have a problem with another warforged's body armor dulling down and having wooden parts creep over it to cover it. ==Aelryinth |
