It looks fairly cool, but I've never tried it, or seen it tried, and I'm not sure I like the artwork. Should I really fork over the 30 bucks?

Eberron is quite possibly 3.5's Dark Sun.

If you like brand new takes on the common races...

If you like a setting where almost anything can happen...

If you want a setting where psionics are built in but do not have to be used...

... then Eberron is for you.

I'll tell you what. Look at all the bonus stuff that is on the Wizards website. Keith Baker, the creator of Eberron, writes weekly articles called 'Dragonshards' that are amazingly cool. This weeks offering is part one of a take on the setting gnomes, and without spoiling it, it turns gnomes- gnomes!- into badasses without giving them any special powers. If you like the Dragonshards, get the campaign book.

30 dollars, you say? That tells me that you live in the U.S. It costs 50-something up here in Canada. I don't know where you buy your stuff from, but many bookstores up here sell D&D merchandise, and as far as I know, book chains like Barnes & Noble and Waldenbooks sell D&D merchandise. Bookstores let you bring your purchases back if you don't like them, povided you have the receipt and the book is in good condition. Buy the book from a bookstore if you can, take it home, treat it like it was your child and spouse all in one, and if you don't like it, you should be able to get most of your money back- all of it, if they don't have a restocking fee.
