Is Eberron worth getting? [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-27-04, 06:38 PM Just started playing 3.5 and was wondering if Eberron is worth getting? and why.
any opinions would be appreciated.

Everyone likes Eberron for different reasons. I like its take on religion and detached gods, which brings a new, deeper aspect to clerics that have often come perilously close to "resurrect-o-matics". I also like the (often fierce) druidic infighting, a theme that few settings choose to investigate in any great detail, preferring to cast druids as a big monolithic block. I enjoy the attention paid to the placement of creatures within Eberron. There are 500 monsters in the core rules alone, many, if not most, sentient. Few settings will give you well-organized and plausible explanations for the reasons why most critters are where they are. I also like the new, not necessarily character-oriented take on magic as a low but diffuse thing. After all, if magic's been around for hundreds of years, doesn't it follow that it's been designed to do more than just blow people up? Granted, blowing other people up has always been high on humanity's list of priorities, but that's not all we use our stuff for.
Finally, I like the new feel of the setting. High fantasy is something that has been done well by many settings. Eberron attempts to recreate noir and swashbuckling atmospheres, and even if it's not successful in your opinion, it's at least an interesting try.

10-27-04, 07:13 PM Eberron is a new campaign world. Intrigues are everywhere. And plots can be as diverse as you can handle. Also, unlike other D&D worlds psionics are allowed on Eberron.

500 in the core rules is what I said. I didn't count the new monsters - of course every setting accounts for its own creations.
