Is this concept too silly for a Eberron Hero? [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-07-05, 09:54 PM Just curious. A fellow player thinks that because he thinks so highly of himself, this idea is silly..

Appearance
Sitting by the bar with a mirror in his hand is a tall, well-built Half-Orc. His greasy, black hair is parted down the middle so that the bangs curl in and poke against his cheeks.

As you watch him, he continues to groom his hair and admire himself in the mirror. He keeps smiling at himself and striking poses, sometimes making angry faces at the mirror or sad faces at it, but mostly smiling at himself.

He wears a beautifully crafted spiked darkleaf banded mail suit, a pair of black leather pants tucked into his black leather boots, and a long dark brown leather cloak. His dark brown eyes never leave the mirror as you glance at the dagger sheathed in middle of his belt.

When he strikes his next pose, his cloak swings back just enough for you to glimpse a pair of throwing axes resting in his belt, and you are able to hear him saying “Hunk the Beautiful is a mighty warrior!” to a woman who has just rejected him.

Okay, the guy is a Half Orc (With nice rolls, btw.. 20 Str, 14 Dex, 14 Con, 12 Int, 12 Wis, 12 Cha) who grapples and throws.. He has brutal throw, so you know. And his armor is spiked for grappling purposes.

He is so damn conceited because he has an aberrant mark of charm person, and tends to use it without realizing it on women. So he's come to believe that he is beautiful not only by the standards of orcs, but even by the standards of elves and humans.

IMO, it's a funny and amusing concept. And may be fun to play. But I also have about 4 ideas on the block right now. (WF Fighter with an interesting background who uses a Scythe, Valenar Fighter who masters Double Scimitar, and workin on a chainmaster now)

03-07-05, 11:42 PM I like it :D If it was a point buy system, I'd have say boost his CHA a little more, maybe a 13... But I like it :D

03-08-05, 12:31 AM It's an interesting concept and one that would only work in Eberron. :D Since half-orcs aren't as stupid or primal in Eberron as the core rules suggest, this idea could work in a campaign and would probably receive points for uniqueness.

I also say a bump in CHA is in order.

03-08-05, 12:15 PM Thirded, increase his Charisma. You've made a character that is obviously focused around his own appearance and manners, and that means Charisma.

03-08-05, 12:53 PM I like it. I think it works fine in Eberron; his attitude seems to be similar to most bards I have seen.

Is he dragonmarked? I can see him trying to hit on the ladies with lines like "I have the Mark of Finding...and I find you quite sexy."

03-08-05, 12:56 PM I disagree on the increased Cha. On the contrary, he is arogant and concieted. This would result in a low Cha.

03-08-05, 01:00 PM Yea, he wasn't point buy.. He was random dice rolls. He has a 14 in Cha, but racial penalty makes it a 12. Orcs aren't supposed to be beautiful like Hunk. lol.

And he has an Aberrant Mark (Charm Person) - that's why he thinks he's so beautiful.

03-08-05, 01:01 PM I disagree on the increased Cha. On the contrary, he is arogant and concieted. This would result in a low Cha.But he's also got a rather forceful personality. There's no way everybody in the room wouldn't know the instant he walked into it. Being arrogant and conceited would just mean penalties to things like Diplomacy, they don't make him any less forceful of a person. After all, high level sorcerers are going to come across as being arrogant and conceited, simply because they ARE better and more powerful than everybody else, and they know it. It doesn't mean they are suddenly less powerful casters because they think they're better than the rest of us.

03-08-05, 01:40 PM I think the CHA 12 is appropriate. And I like the concept a great deal. I would definetely play him over the others..unless he just totally won't fit with the rest of the party and the DM's planned plot.

03-08-05, 01:56 PM It's more or less looking like he'll clash with the party too much. And there's only one female in the party, not enough for Hunk to want to be with them. Hunk isn't into sausage fests. Hunk likes many women, one Hunk!
