What do you think? Would poison or alchemy use be allowed in a game of Six Stones? And should it, for the sake of making the game interesting for PCs to participate in?

I highly doubt it would be allowed. One may think bloodsport=no rules of any kind but really the kind of people watching a six stones match are not the kind to take kindly to any sort of rigging of the results. You know there has to be betting involved. Of course that doesn't mean no one ever does. But the punishment would probably be severe if caught.

I would say that was up to the DM. Per rules I didn't read anything about any rules for the game or rather limitations on what the contestants can do. Given that it comes from Droaam I considered it to be a no-holds-bar sort of deal. Once you are in the arena it's a last man standing who wins.

Well no one has ever said what the rules are for the Race of the Eight Winds in a sourcebook but that doesn't mean there aren't rules. But I think I misunderstood the question. I was imagining this poison use before a match. I still don't think it would be allowed during a match. Six Stones is supposed to be the contestants vs. the cockatrice. Weapons coated with poison or not, get in the way of that and just make it your standard melee deathmatch. If they wanted that they could just remove the cockatrice. I think contestants would be stripped of all gear and magical buffs. I agree it's no holds barred once you are in the arena but you shouldn't be allowed into the arena strapped down with alchemist's fire and potions of Cure wounds etc.

I like the reasoning you used here: what makes this game different then a typical arena duel is that its you and the cockatrice. So no potions, no alchemy, no poison use during the match.

Thanks for helping me sound this out, I appreciate it.

I was always under the impression Six Stones contestants were never volunteers, and it serves more as a punishment for you and entertainment for the rest.

Boss Banro the Ogre doesn't really care if you live or die when you serve as his entry. You survive? You make him a few coins, amuse him, and can be used again. You die? Well, you amuse him even more.

I see the typical Six Stones contestant as being an unwilling victim. A storekeep unable to pay his loans, for example, is stripped to his skivvies and shoved into a dark hole with 6 similar guys.
And a cockatrice.

5 gold on the skinny one!
