Just curious what portions are working for folks, and what aren't? My group is only just getting underway, and I was wondering (if folks think it's worth having a thread devoted to it) if there are portions that are causing troubles, or portions that are just SO cool?

Me, I'm digging the warforged & artificer, the goth elves...

One problem people have found is the lack of healing in the Mournlands. It makes adventures such as Shadows of the Last War extremely difficult, and it is something the Eberron authors are discussing.

Lack of healing?

As in the inability to visit a local shop and pick up potions?

lack as in potions don't work

Lack of healing in that you don't naturally heal there when you rest and spells with the Healing subschool don't work there either.

Holy cats, I can't believe I didn't see that.

Where did I miss it?

:D Probably, in the same place where you would have deduced that there are no shops selling anything to anyone in the Mournland! :D

Seriously, it is mentioned in the Government and Politics section of the Mournland description, in chapter 7. Go figure.

Yes, that's something you might need to know before strolling through that creepy fog...odd how it got sort of tacked on to the end of a paragraph in a weird section...in parentheses no less!
You'd think that it would have gotten more attention...

odd how it got sort of tacked on to the end of a paragraph in a weird section...in parentheses no less! Why, "Government and Politics" is the first place I turn to for information regarding the effects of magic.

Well, where else would you put it? I mean, look at this example. It'll clear the whole mess up.

Phil the Fighter: Um, excuse me, carcass crab. Do you know where I could pick up some potions to heal my almost-dead comrades?

Carcass Crab: Yer' not from around here, are yeh'? Check the Chamber of Commerce on the corner regardin' healin'. Watch out for restless souls of cursed warriors robbed of peacful death.

Phil: Thanks, my good crab. Hmm, sign here says...

We're sorry, all of our Dept. of Commerce representatives are dead right now, or wandering the desolate, lifeless earth as eternally animated beings of hate and malice. Unfortunately, at this time, healing spells and effects are unavailable, or else we would use them to kill our non-rotting re-animated corpses. Check back again after the WoTC Gods determine if that's too heavy-handed or not. See you in the Hell that exists between life and death.

Phil: Wow, that's depressing.

Carcass Crab: Yeh, almost as much as me havin' teh eat yas, bein' that yer' so friendly an' all. Chomp.

That's been giving me trouble. In my own campaign, I said, "Ok, healing spells work, but they only heal half the points."

That seems to work much, much better.

My group hasn't made it to the Mournlands yet, but I have no intention of changing that rule. That is the one thing that makes the Lord of Blades almost invulnerable as long as he stays in the Mournlands.

One issue that I will have to deal with is whether Psionic healing works, since half of the party that I am running is psionic.

Or you could use the herbalism rules from Midnight, potentially...

I wouldn't say that there's much that doesn't work... there's lots of stuff that I, at least, will never use, but it doesn't cause problems.

I suppose no healing works applies to all healing inclucing psionic. if u think about it it is the body that carnt heal and magic/psionics just accelerate it vastly

Just think though, if u found somewhere in the mournlands that sells healing potions they would cost next to nothing, Because of there vast unusefullness u could stock up though:D

That depends, if you are using the "Transparent Psionics" rule (magic=psionics in all things), I'd agree.

If you are using the "Psionics is different" rule, then there may be fiddle room for having psionics heal ... albet less efficiently.

I personally like the lack of healing in the Mournlands. It's not easy for the PC's, but decent gamers could figure out a way around that.

On a side note, does "no healing" mean that "repair light damage" on Warforged would not work?

Nope. Not a conjuration spell of the healing sub-type. Transmutation all they way, here. Why else do ya think that the Mournland is the Warforged Homeland... At least, according to the Lord of Blades...

The aid spell before combat in the Mournland will become especially useful. Anything that give temporary Hit Points will be like gold there.

It's also a great area for player spellcasters to do spell research.

Minor aside: I really wish game designers/editors/publishers weren't afraid to repeat rules like this once or twice in their books. The same thing happened in the BoVD. It took me forever to figure out what this "vile damage" stuff was and why it was apparently important.

There are obviously ways around it, mostly involving transdimenional spaces.

Rope Trick is the easiest solution that comes to mind. You simply have to do a little preparation before healing is all.

what really has inspired me is just the feel of the book.

My current ebby campaign has the flair of a summer action movie, and my group is loving it. I know you could have always done that kinda stuff in other campaigns, but with eberon literaly going DO IT it kinda makes you want to, ya know?

The game im running is a city crawl action movie set in Sharn, god bless you Keither Baker :)

Artificer and Warforged are both focal points of our new campaign. The Mournland proved to be very challenging , rather unfair and very fun. I really hope they don't change it.
