It’s so freaking fun to game in Eberron!

What a blast it is to have your character leap down from a perfectly good crows nest with nothing but a hastily tied rope for safety, fast climb* part way down the main-mast (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mast_%28sailing%29) of a Lyrandar chartered vessel and time it just right so your character can leap forward just as the swell of a great wave pushes the ship nose down and swings you like a pendulum and the motion carries the char. close enough to hurl a javelin at the last surviving sahuagin that attacked the boat, before the oncoming wave can wash it off the prow and back into the sea and to safety.

Part II happens as the wave hits and pushes the nose of the ship up so the pendulum action swings you back and you have to try to dodge the main mast and cut the safety rope in mid swing so you can land in the rigging above the ship’s wheel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship's_wheel) since the helmsman got washed overboard in the last wave that brought the sahgs on board and nobody is steering the ship accept maybe you if you can drop from the rigging in time.

Best part is getting away with all this when the character is a 2nd level cleric with no ranks in Jump, Balance, Climb or Rope Use and a -1 for 9 strength.

Swinging over the heads of the other characters is a blast when one of them is playing a warforged bodyguard who is supposed to watch over you and he had the bright idea that the crows nest would be safest during the fight. My friend roleplayed well as a warforged who said in character he’d tear his hair out if he had any.

Anyway I just had to post cause Eberron encourages stuff like this and I’m really enjoying all the action at low level and the roleplaying to go with it.

Before I forget thank you God of Dice for smiling on me the other day. I shall consult the great WizO Paradox for advice on the proper dice to sacrifice in your honor.

Eb rulez and I hope you have as much fun as I am!

Share your Eberronish experiences here if that's OK with Wiz O people.

* -10 penalty I later learned to the DC. With my -1 that’s -11 total. I got lucky!

Yeah, I'll never forget the time my friend had his character cover a clay golem in oil, set it on fire, and sent it barreling down through the dungeon I spent about a week filling with traps and monsters! It was hilarious!

If only I could animate that scene. A picture is worth a thousand words.

:::::::

Thanks to watching the Mummy and its sequal, I had no problems imagining a swarm of beetles flowing over my character when the DM said we were overrun by a swarm of the things.

Thank goodness they only left welts and hurt us a little and made us all nauseated/puke and didn't rip the flesh of our bones! That would have been a quick end to first level play otherwise.

There is nothing like having 1st lvl characters run up (ala the barbarian) and put the smack down on the 2nd lvl bad guy and then have them die to a 1st lvl rogue and 2 1st lvl warriors because they didn't take the gm hint to put on thier armor after exiting the swamp....

To have the surving members burn down the light house they were sent to figure out what had happened to....

To have the remade characters froth at the mouth at all the loot they just stumbled into only to have the Brelish Navy take it all away to repair the burned down light house....

The joy.

Did he have like a big axe or something to hack the dragon with? My DM will sometimes let us try to make charge attacks while falling. We still take fall damage but get to treat momentum from the fall as the same for a +2 to hit.

Having a party where half of us had darkvision and the other half had low-light or no enhanced vision, aasamir decides to use his dayly use of Daylight on the walls. Ya the DM made us roll Ref saves to shut our eyes before being blinded for a an hour or so. The best part is the aasamir is the only one who failed the save.

It's been awhile but one of my favorite actiony pulpy moments in Eberron was playing my Khorvaire Elf Swashbuckler. We were third level (I remember because I had my Int Bonus to damage). We were a group of Blademark mercenaries gired for an escort mission. Darguun raiders ambushed us in a canyon. Goblins started to fire on us from the top of a cliff and at that point I didn't carry a ranged weapon (how silly of me I'm used to playing spell slingers).

Well most of the party covers our client and fires back with ranged weapons three repelling ropes drop and goblins start to swing down the cliff... that called for some swashes to be buckled!

My swashbuckler jumps off the cart runs over and grabs one of the three robes swinging it back and forth wildly. With an opposed str vs climb check he manages to cause the goblins repelling down that rope to fall to their deaths. But alas well trained hobs and gobs come down the cliff on either side of me. My party is still trying to cover me and kill the archers at the top of the cliff... I have an idea, a cinematic flash of inspiration. DM asks me what I'm going to do.

"So what would be the penelties and associated rolls be for swinging back and forth holding onto the rope booting goblins in the head?"

This causes one of those long silences that occationally befall a gaming table. "Why would you want to do that?" "Style man, style. I'm a swashbuckler."

The debate was on whether it'd be climb or use rope (or as one other player argued balance) to swing to the square I wanted to be in. It was decided it would be climb, "because it should at least be a strength check" (which was fine I had ranks in it). It was decided the range I could swing on the rope 15 ft arc from the cliff face). It was decided (on a coin flip) that I would keep my dex bonus to AC. Naturally I'd be taking attacks of opportunity for attacking unarmed. But I didn't care this was for style, and with unarmed strikes being finessable, and my int bonus to damage on any finessed attack we resumed combat.

Durring what followed I spent action points like raindrops and I had an amazing string of good luck with damage rolls while my DM (rolling openly as was his habbit) did not. Swinging back and forth on a rope yelling and applying his boot to goblinoid head he managed to KO (not kill but KO so they could be interogated) half the Darguun raiding party.

Sure my character was nearly dead by the end of it but the point is I won. Its a fondly remembered gaming moment amongst our group.

Pulp actiony goodness.

Though to be fair he did carry throwing daggers after that so he could be usefull in a ranged fight.

Hmm, I have to say one amazing experience we had in a Sharn based game was where we finally got the chance to chase someone who had been syping on our team. We spotted them, they ran, we chased. They practically flew from one plateau to another. Our warforged artificer had an automatic grappling hook in one arm, so he was anchored to one side, the other four of us climbed up it. Two of us, being slower than the others, got stuck in the middle of the rope for a bit. The other two got to the other side just in time to see the spy dive off of the plateau. Not wanting to have this NPC get away possibly with the answers to our mystery, our human fighter and kalashtar yogi dove off the plateau as well.

Neither had any way to fly or fight in the air.

The NPC started shooting at them with her bow, landed on a small piece of wood jutting from the cliffside, and then leaped upwards as the PCs kept falling past. The made some fantastic saves, grabbed ropes hanging from the cliffside, and flung themselves up in the air (imagine spiderman in this situation). They landed up on top of that plateau, dashed after the NPC, and tackled them to the ground. After they had done all that, the other two were able to catch up.

The warforged was still attached to the grappling hook on another plateau.

After that we interrogated her. At this point, we were pros at it. Our NG fighter, trying to hide that he is formerly of House Dennith, playing the bad cop, and me, the human NE cleric of the Traveller pretending to be a LN cleric of Aureon, playing the good cop. Turns out she was of House Tarkanan, and when we we done with her, Thora Tavin herself came to gather her failed spy.

Yeah, and that was just sort of a side encounter. But man, that was so freaking FUN!

Oh yeah, and no one in the group (player or PC) knew my character was actually evil. Nor did they know that she was also a drug addict (a minor drug from BOVD). Nor that she had some on her when we got caught by the City Watch. Heh, the DM asked us if any of our characters had anything illegal on them. I was the only one who said yes. We had just come from talking with someone at a Dreamlilly house, and I had taken a free sample and left it in my apartment. The other players thought I meant that. Heh, I had the drugs hidden in her healers kit, best place to hide something is in plain sight. ;D

We did the bad cop good cop routine a number of times. Him threatening to beat them up and/or actually doing it, and the cleric healing them afterwards.

In a game I ran a while ago. Two characters swung on to the rope ladder of an airship carrying the badguys away, climbed up inside and the chaos ensued.

A fast furious battle to take control of the ship resulted in the bard casting feather fall, grappling one of the guards and leaping out of the airship and dropping him to his death, allowing the other character to take control of the ship and pilot it safely to the ground.

Good fun. :)

Meh on all you bard-haters! :P :P :P

Good on all you guys. I hope I get to replicate some of the stuff you all pulled off with your characters.

The only cool thing mine did of late was make Diplomacy checks <boosted with lots of rolplaying on my part> to keep the crew of the Crimson Lady from unlashing the life boats and abandoning ship while we <the rest o' the characters> did battle with a kraken.

Dam fish ripped the front off of the boat and surprise of all surprises beached our torn up ship on an island where now we found a bunch of dwelling in pyramids drow islanders who we think want to eat us alll up.

In the ocean around the island<s> we found wrecked ships filled with Sauhaugins that attack like crazy to keep us away so we decided to sack the drow pyramids first.

While fighint aboard the lightning rail the halfling druid riding a dire bat fought some halfling barbarians on glidewings above the rails. i was in the middle of a fight as a halfling rouge, had just KO'd he guy I was fighting was next to another guy and tumbled awayf rom him onto this big emerald hand on the floor. The hand was a trap with burrning hands on it, and the damage almost killed me. So my warforged fighter buddy decided to pick up his enemy and through him at the guy I was next to before. He misses. The DM rolled to see where he landed only a 7 would land on the hand, and of course he rolls a 7 and I'm at -3.
Just before that we were on a platform in the middle a room filled with water. A door with a small ledge under it was ten feet away on the wall. The warforged, Masher, picks me up and throws me to it, but of course it's painted on and the ledge crumbles. I climb back up and look at another door that's identicle. And I decide to get thrown at that one too, and it's the same

Ok, this story takes a bit of set up.

I was DMing a new Eberron game and I went to pick up my first player. On the way over to my place we were talking and he told me that with Races of Eberron he wanted to make a Halfling Ranger with the Talenta Warrior feat. Specializing in the boomerang, but would go to the tangat as needed. Thus Takk was created.

My second player arrived while my first was rolling up his character. Before he even got his jacket off he told me "I want to play a halfling barbarian, with a dinosaur mount." I say sweet. With some complete books he planned out his 'power throw' halfling barbarian who would spec in throwing axes. Thus Slaed was created.

My third and final player arrived he sits down and... without asking what the others were playing said "I can't decide between a halfing paladin or a halfling rogue." The other players and I looked at each other looked at him and said at the same time "Rogue." He decided to max out his dex and knife throwing abilities aiming for master thrower. Thus Dux (correctly pronounced Dukes though everyone called him Ducks) was created.

That's how "Halfling Death" was created... as we refer to that party fondly. Three completely different halfling throwing builds.

The players took to these concepts and ran with them, even going so far as creating the backstory for their Talentan clan. They were related, Dux and Slaed were brothers and Takk was their older cousin. Quite a set of nomad halflings from the plains they were.

On one of their early adventures they were sneaking into a fairly low level Necromancer's (3rd or 4th level I can't remember, they were all about 2nd level) tower lair. They make it to the necromancer's bedroom and set off an alarm which blares out really really loudly. I ask them what they do. They of course say hide. Which they do, Takk rolling under the bed, Dux going into a closet, Slaed under a desk. From the stairs up to the necromancer's labratory (at the top of the tower of course) comes the necromancer's owl familiar... who even with a circumstance bonus fails to spot ANY of these darn sneaky light armor wearing halflings!

They stay hidden as the owl flies around and around the room. Eventually it flies back up the stairs... there's a pause. The halflings stay in hiding. So I have the Necro cast a precautionary buff (mage armor) and creep down his stairs. He spots none of them.

Their surprise round went like this. Dux went first bursting out the closet and scoring a hit throwing one of his daggers, with sneak attack he still rolled low but did a decent amount of damage. Takk rolls out from under the bed and throws a boomerang and an action point (which with Talenta Warrior gets added to the damage roll), scores at hit and leaves the Necro with 1 hp. Slaed pops out and hurls one of his throwing axes... rolls a nat 20, confirms the crit. x3 damage.... the Necro was WELL below -10.

So imagine an emaciated wizard getting a dagger in his chest a boomerang thud off his skull followed by an axe planting itself firmly in what used to be his face.... fight over.

He never got to make his villianous speech... he never got to unlease the zombies he had upstairs. One surprise round... dead.

That was just one of the teams fantastic tales. I'll tell another later.

We were in the underbelly of Sharn chasing after the BBEG. He's an orc druid who's been poisoning the city water supply with a poison that transforms hapless citizens into shambling mounds. We've been chasing after him through the sewers and fighting off his pinefolk henchmen.

Just as we come to the juncture in the sewers, we see him. He's climbed a ladder built into the wall and is going out a manhole 30 ft. up onto the streets above us. Just as we think he's gone, our wizard shouts, "I'm using an action point, cast enlarge person on the orc!" Suddenly our orc druid is a Large creature and the manhole is around his waist like a very tight belt. We laugh a bit as our DM describes his legs flailing about, until our druid gets a nasty look in his eye and says, "I cast spike stones on the manhole."

You know it's been awhile and I mentioned this to one of my gaming buddies, he reminded me that after the owl was sent down one of the zombies from above was sent down to make sure... but with no search check to speak of didn't find the halflings.... I did everything I could to get them to come out.

Put the familiar out as a target... then the zombie.... but they were smart and stayed hidden until the necro came down.

Can't fault them for playing smart... they just all maxed their ranks in hide...

Anyway the tribe they came up with for their characters was actually pretty darn cool. They made up a 'halfling' word for it I can't remember (probably in my notes somewhere). That roughly translated to 'Black Sands'. Their clan traditionally roamed the edges of the northern blade desert. Where in my Eberron (because they requested it) the sands turn black as they near the Ironroot Mountains (nevermind that it'd make more sense for them to turn red).

Their clan was known for their intricate leatherworking. Masterwork saddles and armor where what they often traded to other tribes for various goods when they came in from the desert... and this is where the really unique aspect of their tribe came up. All the halflings in their tribe wore black. The leather they cured ended up black, and their saddles and equipment tended to be black. It was all highly decorated, finely tooled with designs but it was primarily black... this is where the unique part of it comes in. I can't remember how it came up but they decided (somehow) when a halfling in their community reaches adulthood they go out into the desert collecting herbs and what not they use to make their dyes and they make 'their color' Everyone in their clan has a particular hue they use to mark their stuff. The stitching in their saddles armor and stuff is that color, they mark their weapons with that color. Also because they were from the desert their clan's hunting masks functioned as filter masks (Sandstorm)

As such Takk's color was blue, Slaed's red, and Dux' silver. They described all their equipment and how the colors were used quite well. They just kept running with it. Somehow while this was never an issue in previous campaigns... nor in later campaigns really they kept trying to outdo each other with descriptions.

Now there was one problem with this campaign. I had them roll up first level characters and they didn't have enough GP to afford their mounts (particularly Dux who wanted a Glidewing). Well their mounts are intricately tied to their culture.... Also at this point I was hoping to use these characters to run the Eberron version of the Age of Worms adventure path (though actually after the first adventure we abandoned it and I created a campaign for these characters).

I needed a reason for them to be in this town... and I needed a reason for them to have but not have their mounts... I came up with a brilliant idea... their mounts were impounded... an accident happened and they were blamed for the death of a local rich man's horse...

My players picked this up and ran with it. THEY before the game even started... started discussing the circumstances of their precious mounts (that are like family to them) being taken by the law. They quickly decided that Dux, the youngest and the one with the lowest wisdom (also the smallest) was an idiot and taught his Glidewing comands in common. He said "Hey Takk." (say it aloud... sounds a lot like attack) while they were trying to find stabling for their mounts. Hilarity ensued... Of course the fine they had to pay to save the lives of their precious mounts was... the cost of the mounts... plus a light horse....

The character dynamics between these guys was a thing of beauty. Dux was the one that wanted to see the world, his slightly older brother went to keep an eye on him, and their mother asked her nephew to go and watch after the two of them. Slaed the barbarian somehow had the highest charisma and the only one with ranks in a charisma based skill (intimidate) so he ended up the 'face' of the party. Handling situations bluntly. Takk was the sole voice of reason, and Dux... constantly got into trouble and always made situations worse.

Sadly that game died. Not because the characters did, but rather job schedule conflicts.

I sum up DMing in many ways, but this is one of them:
DMing is a lot like being a player. You make a villain, stat him out, going through tons of books to make him a real challenge, give him a backstory, motivation, mannerisms, personality, and complicated and exciting pulp-style area/event in which to fight. Then your players kick down the door and put their fists through his face while he tries to roll initiative.

Okay, here's another. Our party was commissioned by the Silver Flame to identify and eliminate whatever was terrorizing farms near the Eldeen Reaches. Plenty of casualties and property damage. Several squads of local militia had been wiped out without evidence of what did it, so the Church agreed to resurrect one of our characters for free to convince us. (Umm, we don't know what it is but it killed a lot of armed men. Apparently without difficulty. Interested?)

Of course, this meant that we could do whatever fool thing came to mind as long as it only endangered one person.

After much investigation and the hiring of a druid from the forest for skills ranks in Knowledge (nature), we determined that a bulette was responsible. Yada yada, we confront it and it turns to be some inbred elite bulette that spews nauseating gas. Wonderful mental image.

A few unlucky die rolls and half our party was bleeding on the ground. Only our rogue and the cleric are left. The cleric was busy being nauseous, so our rogue character gets brave. The player controlling him writes on a sticky note and passes it to the DM. The DM says aloud;

"Oliver starts at a sprint towards the bulette, reaching into his belt pouch as he nears. The bulette roars in aggression, and Oliver leaps into the bulette's open mouth! He chomps down and swallows sickeningly. Moments later, you hear a rumble, then the bulette explodes in a shower of crimson gore before you. When the mist of blood clears, Oliver lies dead, covered in gore, at the foot of a majestic oak tree."

Yep, our rogue grabbed a Quaal's feather token (tree) out of his sack and activated the thing inside the bulette.

For sheer coolness, we voted him the free resurrection.

Oh hell yah.

This was not just any bard mind you. She had delusions of gradeur, figured she was the next dragonmarked heir. Was planning on ruling House Phirlain and wouldn't let anything get in her way.

In cold blood she murdered the matron that was giving her grief so that she could attend the prince of Breland's ball. (and not be a waitress at it)

She managed to hob knob with the prince, and do some work for him, in which she tried to blackmail him and when that failed started to instigate stuff with other royal families and houses.

And the list goes on and on and on...

See? A BARD did that!

OK good luck to me and you and all of us and may our char's all live long and get fat wealthy.

Been some fantastic moments in both of my games.

Low Level highlights:
six 4th level NPCs versus one troll.. with a potion of fire resistance :O. The casters gave up after the fourth scorching ray bounced off and started tossing in Magic Missiles, the Halfling Barbarian flanked for the Dragonmarked Denieth fighter...

While upstairs on the roof, a Swashbuckler and a halfling rogue swat off two wererats.

And then just as the Barbarian gets into position, a Halfling Rogue crashes through a skylight and puts a dagger through the back of the troll's head :D

High Level highlights:
Gnoll (Reincarnated house Lyrandar Scion, don't ask!) comes in and tries to off Esravesh D'lyrandar's bodyguard (Sorc with proper spells pretending to be said Scion) and the two start throwing up wind walls, and then wind's favoring through eachother's walls.. until the Gnoll takes off and runs, dives off the side of the floating Lyrandar mansion (skywalk in Sharn)... and the Sorc in the party casts fly and chases after him. Spell vs bow in free fall towards Sharn, until the gnoll breaks out Obscuring Mist, and quaffs a potion of invisibility as he falls through it.

Soooo many more, sure I'll remember a couple of others...

My first time playing Eberron was as a player, and it was great. This one needs a bit of explanation as well. My friend and I were both playing two characters and at the behest of our DM we made very Eberron characters. My first was a Warforged monk named Brother who was disillusioned with his self-concept of being a weapon, so he was a pacifist. My second character was a changling spy for hire named Nix. She was hired by house Cannith to find out what a certain Silver Flame paladin was carrying in secret. My buddy created a shifter ranger whose name escapes me, and a wizard/rogue black sheep of House Tharask named Turkish.

Nix and Turkish figured each other out pretty quick and pretty much stole the spotlight. We were hired by the aforementioned Paladin to help guard the aforementioned secret treasure on a lightning rail trip from Sharn to Flamekeep. The skullduggery began in line to apply for the job when Nix and Turkish (after knowing each other for less than 10 minutes) manage to rob another one of the other applicants blind while waiting in line. :D

After the train was underway we fought off a strike team of warforged rogues (who flew in on hang gliders and lobbed noxious smoke sticks into the train car, by the way). It was awesome. Nix brought the cavalry in the form of the Paladin and Brother by tagging the chest with an Alarm spell cast on it – I believe my DM was a bit surprised by my resourcefulness, with that one.

Finally, on the train a Mysterious Stranger – a somewhat misguided Kalashtar who was trying to help a new warforged leader “carve out a safe haven for his people in the Mournland” – approached us. It seems his plans involved one of the two large dragonshards the paladin was keeping hidden. The kalashtar asked us to help him get one of the shards and we could keep the other for ourselves as payment. Nix took him up on his offer and got Turkish and the ranger in on it too.

Long story even longer, Nix tried to seduce the paladin (to no avail), and ended up garroting him to unconsciousness. Then Nix coldly killed him and stole his armor. Using lots of Disguise and Bluff, Nix got past the paladin’s bodyguard, but other CotSF clergy showed up at the station. Nix was caught dead to rights, but she and her two compatriots faked a struggle and she broke loose and slipped out of town just as the gates were locking down with some more clever Bluffing and the help of a ranger who intentionally lost the trail. All in all one of the best adventures I've ever been a part of.

So that’s how we turned my DM’s plans for a cross-country escort mission into a caper movie. We made a big score with the shard, but unfortunately life intervened and we were not able to continue the campaign. I do know that my DM would have never let us enjoy the money. I’m pretty sure the full force of the CotSF would have been brought to bear on us.

I did manage to bring Nix into the campaign I have been DMing. She’s been traveling with the PCs working against them from inside the group. Bwa ha ha!

By the way, mad props to the rope swinging, hobgoblin kicking, elf swashbuckler – that was great! :)

Well we've only been playing eberron for a little bit and well my players were on an airship of which he captain faileda very ke ydiplomacy check and the hsip began t fal lfro mthe sky as ifrst level characters these guys didnt have achance( it was for story purposes we would find ou later). Well as it turned out one of us did. He took an aberrant dragonmark that gave him tenser's floating disk ( as a gnome archivist with no armor and 3 pounds of equipment) and hopped on it and safely glided to the floor.

However thats not the truly amazing part. Our Human Sorcerer ,spending action points lke pennies, and with a proper cross class skill use managed to bluff and diplomace? his way into convncing the fire elemental to stay...it wokred for one round thereby slowing the ship so it didnt kill everyone. It was great luc kand all in al a great eberron moment.

Also a talenta halfing using its dino mount to hop one goblin to charge another one... priceless.

I have to say my favourite "moment" in Eberron was when our party was doing that part of the Vampire Blade where we're being interviewed to see if we can track down and subdue a dangerous enemy.. basically, we're in a Greenhouse somewhere in Sharn and inside this jungle is some sort of dangerous ape, hiding. We have to go in, find it and subdue it.

"How long do we have to prepare ?" my warforged Artificer inquires.
"Take as long as you like" replies the noble.
"Ok..." I start by imbuing my crossbow with Bane:Apes
"Hey! " the rest of the party cries "We have to subdue him!"
"One more minute!" I beg.
With an application of the Mercy enchantment, I'm ready to go.

"Alright - lets go get him"

We stalk around through the jungle, "I think I heard him over here!"
"Wait - now he's over here"

Finally, this humoungously massive critter swings down out of the branches to maul at the warforged grunt (probably because he resembles an ape.. who knows?)
I let fly with my enchanted crossbow with a +4 to hit and a +4d6 subdual damage (from the stacking Bane and Mercy) and one swift back-hand slap from the grunt and the ape went down.

Needless to say, we were hired.

Of course, that reminds me of the natural 20 on my scorching ray later in the campaign... Took out the leading sorceress hench-lady of the Vampire guy with one spell. Not too many 5th level characters can survive 8d6 damage.

Ahh yes. Eberron can be fun.

I am going te be starting in my first Eberron game next week. I have a 9th level Artificer scion of House Cannith with a Greater Dragonmark. He has a warforged graft arm with a wand sheath and battlefist. He also has the adamantine skin graft. He's effectively a magitech cyborg with an arcane particle cannon on his arm. He has an iron defender homonculus, a big razored metal attack dog.

He was a commander/tech support agent during the Last War, hired out to command and repair units of Warforged sold to Cyre. He was severely wounded in battle and lost his arm and parts of his ribcage and had to have reconstructive surgery at the Twelve to install his Warforged components, and was there when the Mourning happened. His parents and fiancee survived the Mourning and sent word via an agent of House Sivis who was fleeing with them, but were slaughtered by elves while they were trying to cross into Valenar.

I'm going to design and make magical items every chance I get, and be a walking arsenal. And wrest control of House Cannith away from the 3 dinks who are tearing it apart.

Man, this is going to be fun.

Wow! That's one heckuva way to clear a dungeon!

It is indeed. This is how an old party of mine cleared a cave.

We're 1st level. We chase the last orc of a raid into a cave. We send the rouge in to flush it out. She goes in, turns around as the orc screams and slams her to dying. She doesn't come back so the paladin orders my warforged sorcerer inside. I go in swinging my lantern in the pitch black as I hear something. I turn around as the orc screams and crushes me under it's ax.

The rest of the party sees an orc run from the cave into the woods. The paladin gives chases on his steed. The orcs digs his ax into the horses chest killing it with one blow causing the knight to fall as a ranger finally gives it a good arrow in the chest.

1 dead regular orc. 1 dead hose and 2 defeated party members.

When the mist of blood clears, Oliver lies dead, covered in gore, at the foot of a majestic oak tree."

hell yeah! that's what i'm talking about...only in Eberron.

i'd like to thank you all for your amazing stories! i'm starting my first Dungeons and Dragons campaign ever sometime next weekend, and its in Eberron. i've played several tabletop rpgs before (mostly based on a d20 system), so i'm familar with the basics, but for some reason i always shyed away from D&D. i guess the Euro-fantasy "kick in the door" style of gameplay (raid dungeon, kill boss monster, get coin, repeat) that i always saw in it was unappealing to me. but the first time i cracked the ECS, i knew this was exactly the roleplaying experience i always wanted! i'm looking forward to some noir, high-action and intrique! i've even been toying with some ideas for running my own campaign(s)...including a low-combat, high-mystery, horror based campaing..possibly involving Mindflayers (this probably won't be my first go, though).

hopefully i'll have some fun stories of our overwhelming heroism soon! i'm playing a Warforged artificer/fighter.

more as it becomes available, i guess.

My Peeps: You all rulz!

So what's funner than battling a Kraken at 2nd level?

Going another round with the same Kraken at 3rd level! Haha!

Yessir we got the drow savages to give us 'wood' to patch up our ship in exchange for us recovering one of their bedroom sized enchanted giant skulls from the depths owned by the Kraken.

So we took our hollow point bullet shaped ship and went to lure the Kraken back to the island so the drow shamans could catch it in their spell lure and draw it underneath and up into the sulfer-smelling island lake in the center of the island.

Damn beastie crushed our ship on the rocks this time, but not before we savaged its sauhaugin minions and the kraken-tentacles they road in on.

Not as adventurish sounding as my last <well, first> post but hey I don't even care just put my character on a boat and I'm having tons of fun.

thread necromancy, go!

finally played an adventure in Eberron. best moment?

we're chasing a Thranish diplomat (who is serving the curropted Silver Flame Diet of Cardinals who are really serving the Lords of Dust, yeah) and his paige through Sharn. he's a level below us on a bridge running perpidicular to the one we're on, 60 feet below us. everyone busts out thier 50 feet of rope. my Warforged Paladin of the Silver Flame expends an action point and jumps down. succeeds the fall with no damage. longsword drawn before the fall? attack roll. critical hit for 8 (natural) damage. 16 weapon damage plus the falling damage of a 330 pound Warforged? liquid paige.

awesome.

Here here. I have joined the hordes of people who've converted to Eberron and are never going back. The intricacy of the design. The story makes sense. It feels like the history is real, not just magic slapped onto medieval Europe. It makes you wonder if Keith Baker was ever a historian. Especially since my history class uses a text book that keeps referencing the work of a Keith Baker. Dun dun dun.

One time I had my PCs bord the lightning rail. The rail was at the time picked up a few Clockwork Horrors. Which while they where traveling on the train hear the sounds of cutting and drilling. In short order the horrors start falling through the roof and busting through the cars doors.

It was but loads of fun. Plus that is just a site thats kind of fun and scary to watch.

I have a group with two characters who bleed Eberron, pulp/scoundrel charm.
A half-elf and a human, half-brothers, who are called "Sol Col os Tosti", or "Twin Kings of Crime" These two have blackmailed every criminal organization in Sharn, and are known as scoundrels of the first degree.
The half-elf is blood related to house Phiarlan. He's a bard/Ebonmar Infilitrator(Cityscape, think spy). He is especially proud of his "signature" exit. His hat is a custom-made, bag of holding w/ a dimension door effect, that his mom made for him (his mom is the 18th lvl magewright in S:CoT) He always runs from the watch for a while, before bidding them "adieu" and pulling himself into his hat.
One spectacular trick the human, an acrobat without peer, performed was when he lept off the side of a Sharn bridge, hooking a grappling hook on the edge, and using it to swing under, then over, the bridge and kick the guardsmen who had chased him to the rail off the edge.
