Not that I intend to utilize one, I'm just idly curious. Are we talking Epic Level Handbook powerful (level 20 and up)? Eberron Epic Level Handbook powerful (which is more like 14 and up)? Archfiends powerful? Deities and Demigods powerful even?

i believe that Keith has said that they have about 1 to 5 divine ranks but i'm not exactly sure.

At least a 20th-level rakshasa sorcerer with at least 1 divine rank.

Powerful enough to make one of them awakening highly unpleasant. I doubt they will ever get stats, but one of them should be able to level whole countries in a matter of seconds.

That's a bit of an overstatement. Flatten cities, yes, counties, yes, but a country will take it a little while.

Depends, we have not even the slighest idea how powerful they could be, maybe the moment a Rajah would break loose, blood would rain from the skies, Eberron itself would start to crumble, etc etc, the usual apocalyptic stuff.

In a nutshell? Too powerful.

Too powerful to have meaningful statistics. Too powerful for the force of the Silver Flame itself to do more the bind them.

Beyond all mortal ken.

So, somewhere in the Deities and Demigods range. Got it. Again, I have no intention of wanting to use one in a game, but it's good to have perspective on Rajahs when you're using the Lords of Dust or the Cult of the Dragon Below.

Has anyone given a thought to how many Rajahs or Ranis there actually are?

Remember, by the count given in the ECS there are what... nine Night Hags? Six daelkyr?

There may be no more than a dozen Rajahs—or Ranis; let's not forget the ladies.

just to make things interesting, i'd probably have there be 13 rajahs.

Nah, 12. One of the 13 either disappeared, was killed or something else.

well, here's the thing: the rajahs predate the wars against the daelkyr, and it's those wars that caused the change from 13 to 12. how that would affect the rajahs, if the rajahs are linked to the planes, is hard to say--especially since i'm making it up as i go along.

There are something like 6 Dealkyr on Eberron. We have absolutely no idea how many more are biding their time in Xoriat, waiting to cause havoc the moment they can.

Also, keep in mind that the Lords of Dust ruled Eberron for a rather long time. They were unchallenged for eight and a half million years. This is the kind of powerbase that makes them much more frightening that the Dealkyr. I would expect there to be a few more rajahs than you suggest. Perhaps not a lot, but more than a dozen.

While we are on the subject of numbers... How many Dragons of Wyrm or Great Wyrm status would there be in Eberron? Probably not that many...

A few dozen maybe, no more than 100. Now since this gets us into how many dragons live on Argonnessn. If you look at the maps its about the same size as Khorvaire. So if the entire continent is populated almost exclusively by dragons that more or less work together you would end up with a fair number the mighty creatures.

I fully statted out a semi-rajah a while ago. I wrote just one encounter about it, to put in an adventure sometime. My idea was somewhat of a prophet of the Zakya, (named simply enough "Lord Zakya"), who had some evil plan to channel the power of the rajah that had origionally created the Zakya as a sister race to the Rakshasa. I made it a Tauric Zakya/Dire Tiger, and equipped it as it would be for the level. It came out to CR25 (I decided against Divine Rank; I had toyed with 0 for a while). There were a few factors that I decided could bring the CR down to 15 or so, at least for a few minutes.

I could probably post it here if anyone wanted to see.

As for normal Rajahs, though, my philosophy is "If you have to ask, you can't kill it."

There would ne over one thousand Great Worms, as no heroes killed them and they have no predadtors.

Strange, I never thought of the Rajas as that powerful. I would think of them as Rakshasa with PC levels 20 - 28, with only one point of divine rank. Each would be very unique from the others, drawing on prestige classes and templates to make them really cool. Half-fiend and tauric templates, for example. As for number of rajas, no more than 13.

What other beings in Eberron could have divine rank? Some incarnation of the Undying Court? A mysterious being that just suddenly appeared in Xen'drik? If the Silver Flame could be statted out, it would definitely have divine rank. Any other ideas?

While it would be impossible to stat out the Silver Flame itself, the Voice of the Silver Flame, the spirit of Tira Miron, would probably have some kind of divine rank.

to adhere to the second edition rakshasa conventions, a possibility might be twelve rajahs and a single, nearly omnipotent maharajah.

:D It's wrong and highly amusing ^^

If you are all familiar with rakshasa society, thier God Ravanna (Male) has ten heads. I believe there to be ten Rajahs each representing the ten aspects of the rakshasa. Also remember Rakshasas come in more than just tiger headed variety, some are insectoid, and some are carnivorous apes. Dragon magizine was very helpful in explaining this, and most likely in Eberron I'd this this translates to having ten rajahs.

There is a champion of that same god who is five headed. I'm not sure if thise is a directed at the several varieties of Rakshasas, or the tribes in the demons wastes, droam, xen'drik, sarlona, and khyber.

Go figure. Multiheaded badguys like Ravanna and Tiamat. Unmerciful lawful evil destructiveness.

If that were the case, they'd never have been overthrown. Remember, there had to be enough couatls and dragons to overthrow these guys, and we haven't heard anything yet about deity-level couatls or dragons (besides the primordial three). So, while the rajahs are definitely powerful, I would peg them between CR 30-40. There might be only a few higher-end rajahs, name them maharajahs and put only twelve of them surviving and you're good to go. :D

I thought that Hellcow mentioned something about a few really old and big dragons that were able to match the Rajahs... or I could be smoking dreamlily again.

I'm personally tempted to give Couatl's a divine rank of 0... at least the ones left.

Well, the Sovereign Host and the Dark Six are all described as having a Draconic aspect, so maybe you aren't 100% correct here. If those gods are in fact all-powerful dragons, then there would be an even match for even really powerful rakshasa rajahs.

The description given in the ECS characterizes the number of the Lords of Dust—who, you will remember, are the servants of the Rajahs, not Rajahs themselves—as "few in number."

Also, recall that the Rajahs are bound in Khyber, not necessarily asleep nor powerless; it's quite feasible that they roam freely in the lower depths, but that they are prevented from approaching the surface by the silver flame.

Finally, recall that whenever Mr. Baker specifically mentions Rajahs, he seems to give them themes, as in a post (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=5092893&highlight=Bashalaera#post5092893) where he mentions the "rakshasa rajah Bashalaera, a fiend with powers over the animal domain," suggesting that the Rajahs partake of something like clerical domains.

They are one of a sort individual!

Let say khyber made 13 of his servant rajahs now some of them are killed and replace by there other ones, as the years pass.

The war with the dragon and there allies binds them to khyber! (i my poinion this in to say the have there own little plane down under to do what they want...)

they may possobly communicate with there lord on the surfase(that are loyal)

and 700 year ago some of the tryed to break to binding to Khyber but Tira saved the day...

Khyber shard = elemental binder
Khyber = binder of all thing. (but why his own children...)

The upper-end great wyrms are CR 24-26. Assuming we add a few class levels, CR 30 seems about right for a rajah then. :)

Also, keep in mind that the Lords of Dust ruled Eberron for a rather long time.

That's why. :)

The Lords of Dust have never ruled Eberron. The organization described as the Lords of Dust was formed after the end of the Age of Demons. Even during the Age of Demons, the beings who are now the Lords of Dust were not the rulers: they were apparently the principal servants of said rulers.

To use a Lord of the Rings analogy, the Lords of Dust are to the Rajahs as Sauron is to Morgoth, i.e., servants risen to power upon the expulsion of their masters.

Also—and there appears to be conflicting evidence on this point, so we might want to discuss it—it is stated in the ECS that the Rajahs ruled Khorvaire and Sarlona, and, elsewhere, that the dragons rose up and overthrew their fiendish masters. This suggests that there were fiends other than the Rajahs who ruled at least Argonessen, if not Xen'drik, fiends otherwise undescribed in the ECS.

Any thoughts?

Currently I have a few players wanting to play monster races, most notably a gnoll and a goblin and both want to worship splat or originally created gods. This is a great opportunity to have the power and influence of rajahs "leak" from their prisons and masquerade as deities promising power to their cultish followers in exchange for questing for their freedom and unleashing upon Eberron.

Rajah's in my opinion have inherent abilities to shape change and create illusions to suite their needs, thus appearing as the gnollish devastator overlord or the goblin demonlord. Their vissicitude has created a number of cults throughout Eberro beyond those of the dragon below. I also assume that the lords of dust are cultivators of these cults and act as "voices" for the rajahs, masquerading as prophets and priests.

Of course I am very cuatious in that working well with others always seems a conundrums with such bloodthirsty and pathological concepts as demon worshipping killers.
