hippi 09-30-04, 06:51 AM	I have thought of something it may sound stupid but what the heck. I though that since kalshtars have much of the same lokkalike and breed with them. Then they may have the same dragonmarks as the humans Does it sound stupid.
MarkB 09-30-04, 07:42 AM	Dragonmarks only appear within certain bloodlines, and furthermore they've only appeared amongst races living in Khorvaire. So there's no significant chance of the Kalashtar developing their own. On the other hand, the child of a Kalashtar and a dragonmarked human would be near enough pure human that he'd probaby stand a good chance of inheriting the dragonmark. On the other hand, his psionic advantages would be diluted compared to those of a pure Kalashtar.
xcorvis 09-30-04, 09:59 AM	I would say that if they can interbreed, only humans result. The kalishtar are a modified human with an extra mental/spiritual component that comes from outside the body (the Quori spirit - whatever it's called). Originally only certain people could hold the spirits, and they've been interbreeding for a while. I think it's likely if a kalishtar and a human had a child, the child would not be a fit host for the Quori spirit, and therefore could not be kalishtar. They would just be human then - from an odd branch of the species, but basically human, and therefore able to have dragonmarks.
mistakeagian 09-30-04, 12:50 PM	Hellcow already addressed the issue of human/kalashtar breeding in the Ask thread. Basically the child is human if its tha same gender as the human parent and kalashtar if its the same gender as the kalashtaren parent. As far as dragonmarks are concearned If the child is human, yes they can have dragonmarks, if they are kalashtar then they cannot no matter what according to the ECS. If you wanted to house rule this otherwise you could, but as far as the official rules go the magic of the dragonmark only appears on those of the specific race. No matter how similar another race may be they will not be able to manifest a true dragonmark.
hippi 10-02-04, 02:10 PM	thanks for the respons. I can see your point, but would the kalashtar be owerpowered if it had the ability to manifest dragonmarks, or is it just because that it is physical impossible in the eberron.
mistakeagian 10-02-04, 08:35 PM	I don't know that they would be overpowered. Personally I just don't like the "flavor" of an arcane mark on a naturally psionic race. Also, the dragonmarks seem to be more than a blood-bound thing. Families certainly manifest the dragonmarks more often, but Keith has said a bloodline that has never had a mark can "spontaneously" gain one. I think the marks follow bloodlnes more because they are showing that somewhere in this family will be a person who matters to the Prophecy. Maybe the marks just pop up as someone does something that influences the prophecy. Who knows. Yhough /I would say, if you have a good reason, a good story for giving them to kalashtar, go for it. It's your game make sure its fun for you! :D
