Ok I've cleaned it up a bit and given some of it order but its all somewhere.

Welcome to "Wizards presents . . ."

All That Where There: andion_isurand, arch_lich, arewon, baloo, bludgeon, brastan, docoperon ethedral_naemos, evilsohn gaerfindel, galrada, gamashinoch, gurvv, hanuman47, hez, honeycakes, igorbob, keith_baker, lefou, lelolith, lord_conservative, mad_wookie, manzella, mrfilthyike, pjstoneson, rhodius, saurenda, save_vs_dm, shaunnv, shqua, silver_string, simen, sludig, southern_oracle, splendide, stouthammer, tabris, tdrandall, the_declaration, the_orc, thwarten, ulari, usamm_druustya, wizo_bastion, wizo_blue, wizo_hydragon, wizo_randal, wotc_mel, xzu_seton and -vhailior-.

wotc_mel says, "Hi Bastion, I turned on the lights to see if folks were here"
wizo_bastion says, "Cool. I did wonder about that, its nice to see you Mel :)"
sludig says, "Keith has been doing too good a job on the boards... I'm just here to see if anybody comes up with a question I haven't heard yet."
wotc_mel says, "heh, yeah, Keith has been great--which is why I dont know that anyone will have any questions!"
wizo_bastion says, "Yeah, I noticed Keith has been fielding questions via the boards for a couple weeks now (at least)"
sludig says, "Poor guy's wife."
evilsohn says, "I have one Question, but I don't now if it was already answered on one of the boards..."
tdrandall says, "What's it up to now? Last I heard it was 40 pages. Has anyone distilled it down yet to some semi-official errata?"
wizo_bastion says, "Well I have a question thats been bugging me"
sludig says, "Around 44 now I think"
wizo_bastion says, "wow, that is a lot! of questions"
sludig says, "a lot of repition since he went to the con"
wizo_bastion says, "Maybe we can focus on future supplements and Shadows of the Last War, that way there won't be a complete retread of whats already been posted"
sludig says, "repition = repitition"
wotc_mel nods at bastion
wotc_mel goes to look for more lost folks
wotc_mel leaves
sludig says, "Anybody going to be here that can make rules judgements? Keith's been getting about half crunchy questions, which he can only give his opinion on."

keith_baker enters
keith_baker says, "Hello all!"
Lelolith says, "hi"
evilsohn says, "Hello"
splendide says, "Hiya"
docoperon says, "Hello"
the_declaration says, "Hi Keith! Thx for the time you're giving us ;)"
galrada says, "Hi"
Lelolith says, "second that"
stouthammer says, "yay Keith Baker! Our hero!"
wizo_bastion says, "Yeah, this chat is really a nice bonus after writing such a fantastic book"
stouthammer says, "living the dream!"
keith_baker says, "Well, I'm just glad you're all enjoying the world. :)"
stouthammer says, "why weren't you already one of us though? Back when that contest was announced, lots of people in this chat sent submissions :)"
galrada says, "It's also nicely describ."
keith_baker says, "I dunno, Stouthammer!"
stouthammer says, "I have one general question for the wizos and/or keith before the chat starts. Since the chat is actually about the first MODULE and not the book itself, how much spoiler material are we likely to see? Is this chat going to be safe for people playing in the game who may be running through that module?"
wizo_bastion says, "Just so everyone knows, we are going to wait a bit to get started, even though Keith has kindly joined us early... so feel free to mingle or grab some friends and yank them in here :)"
keith_baker says, "I think it's about the module AND the book, isn't it?"
stouthammer says, "I thought this was Shadows of the Last War chat"
wizo_bastion says, "Yup, this is about both, and perhaps (wink wink) some hints at whats to come"
splendide says, "awesome"
stouthammer says, "I'm a DM, and I'm going to be running my players through the module (have my copy already) so doesn't bother me either way, but I'd assume there are players here as well"
Lelolith says, "its just that with the great job you’ve done on the boards some people are worried about repatitions"
rhodius says, "greetings Mr Baker"
keith_baker says, "I can always say "Check out the boards!" if there's a complicated question I've covered in detail there. :)"
stouthammer says, "too bad honeycakes isn't here too :D"
keith_baker says, "Hey Rhodius!"
keith_baker says, "She was hoping to join, but she's working late."
sludig says, "Who says she isn't? I'm Draamal on the boards... Somehow my name was taken here... crazy"
rhodius says, "r we going 2 c a bool on the races of eberron (elves inparticular)"
sludig says, "oh, keith says. lol"
xzu_seton says, "bring her Milk & Bread"
xzu_seton says, "lol"
stouthammer says, "I love the eberron boards. I started a really active debate going there"
rhodius says, "r we going 2 c a book or more information on the races of eberron (elves, dark elves in particular)"
save_vs_dm says, "Yay!"
sludig says, "Yeah, I'm really impressed with how well behaved the people on the Eberron boards are."
save_vs_dm says, "I made it"
keith_baker says, "Races of Eberron was just announced, Rhodius -- coming out next April, I think?"
wizo_bastion says, "Wow looks like we are going to have a nice sized crowd this evening :)"
keith_baker says, "Hey folk!"
save_vs_dm says, "This coming april for RoE?"
wizo_blue waves
keith_baker says, "I think so."
saurenda says, "^^"
stouthammer says, "cool I hadn't heard that"
evilsohn says, "Races of Eberron? Yay!"
save_vs_dm says, "Yay!"
save_vs_dm says, "Will there be a QA for that later?"
baloo says, "Keith>I hope it won't introduce ten new elven subraces."
stouthammer says, "sludig, have you seen my thread on whether or not the silver flame was justified in the purge of the lycanthropes?"
saurenda says, "Hopefully more than one Prc for Warforged"
keith_baker says, "No new elven subraces, Baloo."
save_vs_dm says, "Keith> Any chance of Eberron Racial Paragons?"
baloo says, ":)"
stouthammer says, "baloo, I doubt it. Keith's said many times on the board how he feels about subraces (at least subraces that are mechanically different)"
sludig says, "Glanced at it, don't have a lot of time to talk on there, just browse though."
silver_string says, "Teleportation'r'us :D"
hez says, "But what of Warforged subraces?"
saurenda says, "Ick"
baloo says, "Stout>Thunk so."
saurenda says, "Rather have a second warforged PrC though"
hez says, "Of all the races that seem to have mechanically-different subraces inherent in their concept, Warforged seem likely."
the_orc says, "Lets get down to the important things, will there be more about orcs? ;)"
stouthammer says, "lol"
xzu_seton says, "the made by a gnome"
stouthammer says, "I like the orcs in eberron. It's cool that they're not like the bad guys. They're just people like everyone else."
keith_baker says, "Save vs. DM, currently RoE does not include paragons. But you might see it as a web enhancement or something like that."
lord_conservative says, "i like the fact that the elves are different"

silver_string says, "Do we get paid to be here? :)"
the_orc says, "Stout> I've been saying all along we rock, people just haven't been listening."
silver_string says, "Stout>That's heathen talk, soon you'll claim Kobolds are people too!"
wizo_blue hands out cookies as payment
stouthammer says, "dwarves are still cooler"
silver_string says, "Woohoo! Cookies! :D"
silver_string says, "Dwarves rock, yes."
save_vs_dm says, "Great"
shqua says, "*cough*thri-kreen*cough*"
save_vs_dm says, "I made home brewed ones, but would like to see official rulings"
sludig says, "Heh, it's really nice and all that everything is so original with the setting but it makes it really hard to sell to new players. "What's it like?" "Well.... umm...""
hez says, "Keith> Is there going to be more inclusion of "magic-tech" in Eberron in future supplements? Things along the lines of the lightning rail trains or the airships or warforged?"
wizo_bastion says, "Ok all, time to settle in and get ready to begin..."
stouthammer says, "I got quite a debate going on that silver flame topic. Personally, I think any world with 12 moons has got to be a madhouse with lycanthropes running free ;)"
baloo says, "Yeah, I like the "no hard alignments" thing in general."
silver_string says, "Stout>Kobolds are not people ;)"
lord_conservative says, "question: why are the valenar double scimitars 15 pounds..."

wizo_bastion says, "Welcome to the Eberron Campaign Setting chat with Keith Baker. Tonight we will be talking about Eberron and its first supplemental release, Shadows of the Last War. If time permits, after the Q&A we will open the floor for social chat among the fans of this hot new handbook."
wizo_bastion says, "Protocol is in effect. If you have a question or a comment to make, type a ? or ! to the screen so you can be added to the queue. Please have your question or comment already typed out and reasy to enter when called upon to help the session run more smoothly. At the end of your question or comment, please type /ga so we know you are done with your statement."
wizo_bastion says, "Please do not post anything to the screen until called upon. No matter how many times you type a ? or ! to the screen, you will only be put in the queue one until your name has reached the top of the queue. Please be respectful of others."
wizo_bastion says, "If you have anything to say to anybody in the room, please use a private message. Thanks and have fun!"

keith_baker says, "Hez?"

hez says, "Keith, is there going to be more "magic-tech" in Eberron?"
hez says, "Such as more things along the lines of lightning rail trains, airships, warforged, etc.? /ga"
keith_baker says, "I think that's a fair assumption. For example, Shadows of the Last War had the earth-bound cart. I expect that in Dragonshards articles and future sourcebooks we will look at many more ways that magic has been incorporated into society."
keith_baker says, "So... yes, I'd say so. /ga."

evilsohn says, "?"
wizo_bastion says, "Ok, our next question is from save_vs_dm, go ahead save :)"
save_vs_dm says, "Can a Player Character drive the Elemental Land Cart in SotLW if the driver (can't remember the NPC's name) is injured/unable to?"
keith_baker says, "Good question. I would consider it to use the standard rules for piloting elemental vehicles (page 267). If you had the least mark of passage, you'd have an easy enough time of it."
keith_baker says, "However..."
keith_baker says, "... If you're thinking "Can my party kill this guy and take the cart""
save_vs_dm says, "No, not that"
save_vs_dm says, "He sort of....had an accident (bad dice rolls)"
keith_baker says, "There is the fact that if you brought it out of Darguun Orien might try to repossess it. But yes, use the standard control rules. /ga"

wizo_bastion says, "Good question, our next question comes from stouthammer, go ahead stouthammer :D"

stouthammer says, "Keith, what kind of tie-ins can we expect with future non-eberron products for the Eberron world? For instance, what articles in Dragon and Dungeon can we look forward to? And will any of the D&D books (like Monster Manual III) have material written with Eberron in mind? /ga"
stouthammer says, "(not to mention Frostburn = Frostfell)"
keith_baker says, "I believe that the MMIII has Eberron specific monsters (along with suggestions as to how to place them outside of Eberron)."
keith_baker says, "Frostburn will certainly be relevant for Frostfell, though I don't know if it will address Eberron specifically."
keith_baker says, "So far, I've written 2 Dungeon adventures and 1 Eberron-related Dragon article -- so you will see some support there, though they don't want to scare off non-Eberron players."
keith_baker says, "I don't know if you'll see Eberron material in future "Complete" books, the way you've seen FR material. We'll see. /GA"

wizo_bastion says, "Gaerfindel, your turn :)"
gaerfindel says, "I noted that the Mror Holds are the centre for banking across Khorvaire. So essentially, the dwarves play the same role in Khorvaire as the Swiss do in Europe?
keith_baker says, "Roughly correct; they have a strong alliance with House Sivis, which notarizes documents and provides communication between bank branches. It's also the case that the Mror Holds possess a great deal of mineral wealth, so the dwarves are wealthy to begin with. They built vaults for themselves, then became bankers."
keith_baker says, "But yes, the Mror Dwarves -- particularly House Kundarak -- dominate the banking trade across Khorvaire. /ga"

wizo_bastion says, "ok, on to the next question (save that one for later gaerfindel), the_orc, your turn :)"
the_orc says, "Can Artificer's make scrolls of Infusions? The book seems unclear on this. If they can, would they need to use the Use Magic Device skill? If they can't, what is the reasoning? /ga"
keith_baker says, "No. This will be addressed in errata. An artificer cannot apply any creation feat to an infusion. So no wands of armor augmentation. You can create a wand of repair light damage, because it is also a wiz/sor spell."

evilsohn says, "?"
southern_oracle says, "?"
shqua says, "?"
keith_baker says, "ga"
wizo_bastion says, "Igorbob, your question :)"
igorbob says, "2nd level characters (10-30 hit pts, approx.) in Mournland with no healing seems harsh. I've read the boards, but no satisfying answer. Will potions provided work if consumed there (if so, why?), or must PCs exit Mournland to heal (30 mile trek)? /ga"
keith_baker says, "Some people like it harsh, others don't. I've altered it slightly myself: I tend to play that natural healing never works, but there are large areas where healing effects work at 50%."
keith_baker says, "So that's something I'd play with based on the level of lethality you're looking for."
keith_baker says, "ga"

gaerfindel says, "?"
wizo_bastion says, "OK Your turn evilsohn, go ahead"
evilsohn says, "Keith, as the Last War has raged for 102 years, does this mean, that an elf player has survived the whole war, as starting ages for elves are 110+? /ga"
keith_baker says, "Yes. However, since Aerenal was not involved in the war, that doesn't mean he ever participated in it."
evilsohn says, "How about elves from Khorvaire?"
keith_baker says, "Yes, if you use the standard age tables, all PC elves would have been born in the time of Galifar."
keith_baker says, "Anything else on that?"
evilsohn says, "That's all, thanx :-)"
keith_baker says, "ga"

Lelolith says, "?"
wizo_bastion says, "Thanks, ok moving right along our next question comes from hanuman47"
hanuman47 says, "During a recent chat session, one of the designers (forgot which one, sorry) said something about a calendar/chart of the lunar cycles and planar cycles being available soon. Any idea when and what format (Dragonshard article, part of supplement, etc)?/ga"
keith_baker says, "That was either Bill or Chris. I don't know what they've got over there. I assumed that it was going to be something like the electronic orrery on the site, but I don't know, and I don't know what the progress is on it."
keith_baker says, "Sorry! /ga"

igorbob says, "?"
wizo_bastion says, "Next question is from xsu_seton go ahead"
xzu_seton says, "Hi Keith; Great Book! :0) Question: Action Points to me seem busted, I don't like them. How do you see them not being abused? & do you like the Idea of running it without them? /ga"
keith_baker says, "Remarkable fortune is part of the pulp flavor of the game. I don't think there's anything wrong with playing without them, but so far I've liked them. What do you see as abuse?"
keith_baker says, "If you can sum it up briefly."
xzu_seton says, "It can get messy at the table people roll then add AP"
keith_baker says, "Hmm. That is how it's supposed to work. You roll, and then the DM should provide the player with a chance to add AP if they want to; it's generally so that they can try things they might not be able to accomplish otherwise. But certainly, the setting won't fall apart without them."
xzu_seton says, "It can ruin the DM's best planed scene"
xzu_seton says, "why can NPC use it too it's unbalanced"
keith_baker says, "Hmm. I tend to plan the scene with action points in mind. But if they don't work for you, I'd just pull them out. Again, the setting works without it."
keith_baker says, "OK, last response then we should move on..."
keith_baker says, "The point of action points is to emphasize that the players are heroes -- that if this was a movie, they'd be the main characters. In Lord of the Rings, Legolas does some amazing things -- that might be seen as using action points. If every orc had AP, it would make him seem less remarkable. But if the Witch King has them, that's OK."
xzu_seton says, "Thanks"
xzu_seton says, ",/ga"
xzu_seton says, "Isn't feats, skills & abilities the true, Heroic metal of the PC why do they need extra with AP! /ga"
tdrandall says, "My only convern with APs is that they are such a limited commodity - some of the coolest flavor feats end up barely used as a result (IMHO). /ga"
keith_baker says, "TDrandall, this may be addressed in a future Dragonshard article. "
shqua says, "On the AP issue: If it's really going to ruin your scene, then I guess the DC or AC happened to be 6 points higher just then..."
keith_baker says, "Like I said, xzu, if they don't fit you're play style, go ahead and pull 'em."

wizo_bastion says, "Rhodius, your question is up, go ahead"
keith_baker says, "I think Rhodius left."
wizo_bastion says, "Then Lord Conservative, your turn :)"
wizo_bastion says, "LC, you still with us?"

lord_conservative says, "Hail Keith! Your book is truly excellent. The book says the Valenar double scimitar weighs 15 pounds. Is this an error? It seems a bit too heavy for an elf"
keith_baker says, "That's why you make it out of mithral. :)"
keith_baker says, "But..."
keith_baker says, "... that is heavier than the double-bladed sword, and if you wanted to reduce it to 10 I wouldn't stop you."

07-31-04, 01:17 AM
wizo_bastion says, "Manzella, you are up, go ahead"
manzella says, "I like that you left Xen'Drik mysterious, and unknown. As a DM that loves open ended stuff like that so I can have freedom to create custom scenarios, but my concern is that I will have something happen in Xen'Drik that may later be contradicted in Eberron sourcebooks. What kind of guidelines should I be abiding by when planning?"
wizo_blue says, "If the 5 people with comments would like to type them after the answer."
keith_baker says, "The thing to me is that Xen'drik is BIG. We will, I'm sure, have a Xen'drik sourcebook at some point. However, my hope is that it will be less of a "map of Xen'drik" and more of a guideline to the types of things that can be found there, dungeons and ruins that you can place wherever you want them."
manzella says, "ok cool that helps a lot"
manzella says, "so every campaigns Xen'Drik will be different?"
keith_baker says, "We always want Xen'drik to be the place where you can stick that one monster that doesn't fit anywhere else, or have the lost city of Aranea turn up."
keith_baker says, "Well, once you've found a location, you could theoretically go back there (now we know where the city is!) -- but yes, it's more about exploration than repition, in my mind."
manzella says, "ok thanks"

silver_string says, "!"
wizo_bastion says, "Ok, silver string, go ahead"
silver_string says, "Don't forget rule 1: GM's word is law, go with what you have if it's fun. No use fretting over "Canon" material after you already went there."
keith_baker says, "You're welcome. And right, SS."

stouthammer says, "?"
wizo_blue says, "(anymore comments?)"
simen says, "You mentioned that the double scimitar should be made from mithril, but wouldn't that ruin the damage, as it puts half the weight behind the blow? Seems it should be 10 pounds after all."
baloo says, "!"

wizo_bastion says, "Baloo, go ahead, please follow protocol, i will give everyone a chance to comment from this point onward, we just have had tons of questions"
baloo says, "About the weight issue... D&D isn't all that good at getting weapon weights right in the first place, at least not seen as straight weight. If you consider that it may involve a fudge factor for being hard to carry around, it might make more sense. /ga"

wizo_bastion says, "Hez, you have a question?"
hez says, "Aye."
hez says, "Are the Warforged going to be as prolific a player race as the other, more standard ones (human, elf, dwarf, halfling etc.)? For example, almost every supplement out there comes with some elf-only prestige class or items for elves. Are the Warforged going to receive that kind of support in future material?"
hez says, "ga"
keith_baker says, "The warforged will never make up a large segment of the population. However --"
keith_baker says, "-- because they are unique to Eberron and because they are a population with a high concentration of adventurer-level characters, yes, I expect you'll see a fair amount of focus on them."
keith_baker says, "But if there's a sourcebook on Sarlona, it's going to deal with the Inspired and kalashtar, not warforged."
keith_baker says, "But because there's so much third-party material for the standard races, I think you'll see support for the warforged in many Eberron books."
keith_baker says, "ga"

hez says, "?"
wizo_bastion says, "Ok, moving on, save vs dm, your question"
save_vs_dm says, "Should any of the DMG prestige classess be given a unique flavor for eberron (such as Dwarven Defender and Arcane Archer?) Also, can they use action points to gain another use of their class features for the day. (such as the dwarven defenders defensive stance)?"
keith_baker says, "Using smite and rage as an example, I think it's reasonable to give classes or PrCs with similar abilities the activate class ability feature."
keith_baker says, "As for the classes themselves, yes, that's a good idea -- I may try to write that up as a dragonshards article, since it's a big topic."
keith_baker says, "I know there's been discussion on the message boards about the PrCs from the Complete books. /ga"

shqua says, "!"
wizo_bastion says, "Shqua you have a comment?"
shqua says, "Turn Arcane Archer into Arcane Talenta Boomeranger."
shqua says, "(That was a joke)"
keith_baker grins evilly.

manzella says, ""!""
arch_lich says, "!"
wizo_bastion says, manzella, your comment"
manzella says, "I know you said you didnt do specifics on weapons keith, but..."
manzella says, "i think xen'drik boomerangs should be slashing instead of bludgeoning"
keith_baker says, "I could see them as both. A boomerang is generally designed for weight and impact; slashing/bludgeoning would be fine with me, and I don't think it's terribly overpoweing."
keith_baker says, "I'm done with boomerangs -- should I adress AL's comment?"
wizo_bastion says, "Sure, go ahead"
arch_lich says, "There are some PrCs out there that have very powerful effects that are useable once a day/week. Would that make the use of AP overpowered?"
keith_baker says, "That would definitely be overpowered, Arch_lich. That's why I said to compare it to smite or rage. If it is similar in number of uses, then it's appropriate to let it be used with AP. If it has other restrictions, it shouldn't be used with AP. /GA"
arch_lich says, "ok thanks"

wizo_bastion says, "Docoperon, its your turn, go ahead"
docoperon says, "Obviously the Inspired seem poised for an invasion of Khorvaire in the near future. Do you forsee this being a subject of an official supplement at any time soon or is that going to be left up to individual DMs in their games? /ga"
keith_baker says, "I don't expect any sort of major world-altering events in the next year or two (and I'm crossing my fingers and hoping we'll be around in two years). Perhaps at some point there will be larger e"events", but it's not the focus right now."
keith_baker says, "Also, the Inspired are more likely to undermine than to launch a full military invasion."
keith_baker says, "So the Last War itself may have been part of their plans."

keith_baker says, "Well, I'll do the best I can."
evilsohn says, "Can we expect more information about the 13th dragonmark (like what were its effects?) in future supplements?"
hanuman47 says, "Would a doppleganger/human cross-breed have the same traits as a changeling? (i.e., would it be a “first generation” changeling?) And can you confirm or deny the rumor that we will see more info about changelings in the Sharn Sourcebook?/ga"
gamashinoch feels sorry for keith baker
lelolith seconds that
baloo says, "I think it's a good idea to first use a bunch of sourcebooks and stuff to set the scene, so to speak, before embarking on metaplotty stuff. I loved Dark Sun, but they made that mistake - first adventure and novel changed the nature of one city and shook the setting up pretty much."
arch_lich says, "Conferms with Gamashinoch"
baloo says, "Say, the first 10-15 years :)"
docoperon weeps for poor Keith Baker and the rest of us
arch_lich says, "Sigh"
silver_string says, "."
keith_baker says, "Evilsohn: It seems likely, but I couldn't tell you when. There are many things still to be addressed about dragonmarks -- the 13th mark, the War of the Mark, aberrant marks, etc."
igorbob says, "In SotLW, PCs can find an "essence node of blinding." Could you briefly describe an essence node? I don't see it in the module or in the ECS book or DMG. Thanks for your help and for a great world!"
splendide says, "In the ESB, it states that the dragonmarked houses make a display of remaining neutral, and have agreed to act under a code of neutrality. Is this just a show of neutrality, with sweetheart deals going to some nations over others? If not, why have the nations allowed this neutrality rather than demand some degree of exclusivity? Also, is there a book about the houses in the pipeline? /ga"
gamashinoch says, "Don't worry about me, I'm new to the Forgotten Realms, Eberron, Dungeons ands Dragons, and all the others."
lord_conservative says, "On page 70, the book shows a monk dedicated to the Mockery. Is it common practice for followers to mutilate their bodies like that? Wouldn't that severely hinder their fighting abilities? And wouldn't they have bad infection problems? :D"
gamashinoch says, "So I won't ask any questions."
saurenda says, "Do dragonmarked houses have any laws to answer to, or political figure heads?"
sludig says, "Can we expect any Eberron fiction in Dragon any time soon?"
the_orc says, "Thanks for coming to the chat, Kieth. Its late here and I need my sleep. <waves to all>"
gaerfindel says, "Getting back to cultures: What other cultures (RW/otherwise) inspired you when writing the setting? What cultures do you recommend DMs study to best convey the "flavour" of Eberron? /ga"
silver_string says, "Aren't cats the best? ;)"
wizo_blue says, "slow down guys lol"
gaerfindel says, "Sorry!"
silver_string says, "Cya later Orcy."
saurenda says, "Is the prophecy tangible?"
silver_string says, "Sleep well :)"
thwarten says, "Keith can I find closer, more detailed maps of the 5 contenents?"
wizo_blue waves
gamashinoch laughs.

keith_baker says, "Hanuman: It's up to you to decide how many generations it takes to make a true changeling. You might just get a human child from the crossing. But a changeling is a good possibility. As for Sharn, you'll at least see more about the changeling community there -- there may or may not be more on top of that, I haven't seen the current version of the book."
gamashinoch is seriously confused.
silver_string says, "It's 4 am here, I think I'll also go to bed any minute now."
keith_baker says, "Thanks for coming!"
evilsohn says, "Keith, what do You think of the idea of a Warforged taking a psionic class?"
gamashinoch says, "Wow/."
arch_lich says, "Ya im intrested in the psi/warforged info as well"
save_vs_dm says, "In a related note, what about a Changeling Egotist?"
keith_baker says, "Igorbob: An essence node is an amulet-slot warforged component that can hold an armor special ability and grant it to the warforged that installs the component."
saurenda says, "I'm interested in prophecy info as well ^^"
lord_conservative says, "i would think it would be more of a problem for a warforged to be a druid than a psion..."
silver_string Waves at Kajal.
igorbob says, "thanks."
arch_lich says, "It seems odd that a warforged would manifest psi. sence it doesn't have a brain to channel the energys"
silver_string says, "They have a mind, and an anomaly could happen."
saurenda says, "who cares about the lesser races tell us the prophecy ^^"
gamashinoch I have so many books to read, i may not finish them before the year is out.
silver_string says, "It depends on what you say it comes from, the "Mind" or the brain."
keith_baker says, "Splendide, that's probably a larger subject than I can answer here. Certain nations have stronger ties to certain houses, but remember that until the war, the five nations were all Galifar. The relationship was between the houses and Galifar. It may shift in the future with the aftermath of the war."
arch_lich says, "ya the druid thing is a bit far fetched, I do like the idea of the cyber animals in the forums."
splendide says, "Fair enough. Will there be a book on the houses?"
evilsohn says, "LC > Why that, Warforged are made not only of metal but also of wood and other materials..."
docoperon says, "Keith -> Do the laws of physics, as they exist in our universe, operate the same way in Eberron... with the addition of magic and elemental powers. An Earth sized planet with 12 moons would have some interesting tides. /g"
lord_conservative says, "druids aren't allowed to wear metal armor"
keith_baker says, "Splendide: I don't know -- I'm not privy to those decisions. I'll certainly expand on them online."
gamashinoch wonders what saurenda is talking about.
splendide says, "Awesome, thanks for that Keith!"
silver_string says, "Lord>I'm sure "Naked" Warforged are ok ;)"
gamashinoch says, "I don't act like i know anything."
evilsohn says, "but they can carry a bag of lead?"
wizo_bastion says, "docoperon> I agree, i think the tidal situation on Eberron would be enhanced"
gamashinoch says, "If i don't know something, I ask. I don't sit there staring into deep space."
keith_baker says, "Lord Conservative: The monks of the Mockery use magical techniques in their disfiguration. The effects are mostly cosmetic and don't hinder their fighting abilities. As for health, their disturbing disciplines help counter the effects. But it's not pleasant."
gamashinoch says, "Keith, what books have you written."
shqua says, "I missed the message that the floor was open to chat, so I was still waiting to be acknowledged before asking my question. >_<"
lord_conservative says, "thanks"
stouthammer says, "I'd just like to interject a comment. I love how Eberron isn't over-detailed. I also like that the book didn't have enough prestige classes to choke you. The prestige classes are very good and I can see them being used. I hope future Eberron books don't have dozens of highly-specific prestige classes."
gaerfindel says, "Agreed!"
southern_oracle says, "Some of the articifer's infusions (such as magic vestment) are found in the Player's Handbook as divine spells and require a divine focus and/or certain religious material components...does the artificer need those to cast them as infusions, and does an artificer need a spell component pouch? /ga"
wizo_blue says, "if you have a question can you just put (?) in front of it to make it easier thanks"
silver_string says, "http://www.pen-paper.net/rpgdb.php?op=showcreator&creatorid=2961 Keith have written these books."

saurenda says, "Alright this was pointless ^^ Everyone have a goodnight"
silver_string says, "Has."
wizo_bastion says, "thanks SS, appreciate the link for anyone who may be curious :D"
stouthammer says, "saurenda, he just answered you"
gamashinoch laughs at saurenda
arch_lich says, "I hope otherwise PrCs rock."
save_vs_dm says, "? Keith, do any of the five nations and others have any well known art forms? Could you detail any of them? Thanks a ton!"
keith_baker says, "Sludig, at the moment I don't know of Eberron fiction in Dragon, but that doesn't mean that there won't be any."
shqua says, "? I was wondering if there's any place to find a pronunciation guide for Eberron. It's irking me to no end that I don't know how to say "Cyre." ;)"
silver_string says, ""Sire" imo."
stouthammer says, "Heh. I think that's on KB's list of possible ideas for a Dragonshards, Shqua (which I figure by now probably has enough ideas to last him through 2007)"
shqua says, "Where can I find that, stout?"
gamashinoch says, "I have never been so confused in my life."
stouthammer says, "Dragonshards is on the Eberron website weekly. www.wizards.com/eberron"
Lelolith says, "(?) As an amateur writer, the general vibe of Eberron is close to my writing style, I was wondering what the procedure was for submitting stories or novels for Eberron?"
ethedral_naemos says, "Cyre is probably pronounced "Sire", or "Sy-re", I think."
stouthammer says, "but you can find threads about pronunciation in the eberron message boards"
baloo says, "I think Cyre is supposed to be Sy-ree."
stouthammer says, "yes, I believe baloo's right"
stouthammer says, "of course you can pronounce it however you like. :D"
keith_baker says, "Gaerfindal: On real-world cultures... Good question, but it's hard for me to answer on the spur of the moment. Ask on the message boards. :)"
lord_conservative says, "can action points be used to gain another use of a spell-like ability?"
southern_oracle says, "I call it "seer.""

gaerfindel says, "Noted, thatnks. /ga"
stouthammer says, "just don't pronounce eberron "a-beer-run""
silver_string says, "Heh."
igorbob laughs hysterically.
gaerfindel laugh uproariously!
silver_string Waves at Kajal again.
shqua says, "Of course, even if I find out how to pronounce every word in Eberron, that doesn't fix the problem for D&D in general. I've heard more manglings of "Tarrasque" and "Geas" than I care to count."
arch_lich laughs hysterically.
gaerfindel nods
xzu_seton says, "Can Dragon Shards be use for psionics"
southern_oracle wonders how silver_string knows who he is...:)
keith_baker says, "I have no problem with any race taking any class. In the case of a warforged, I like to think of a warforged designed to channel psionic energy, built with crystal components."
silver_string is tundra, knower of many people, so long they've been here two years ago :D
southern_oracle says, "Ah."
gamashinoch says, "You know I'm so wildly confused, for the fact I have read the Lord of the Rings, the first five Harry Potter books, and they have different definitions for all these mythological creatures."
shqua says, "Speaking of which, at what speed (if any) does the world of Eberron rotate? Because I've heard that Khorvaire is "unsafe at any speed.""
evilsohn says, "Okay, I'm fine with that, thanx"
baloo says, "Xzu>There's a bit in the book about the inspired and kalashtar using shards to enhance psionics... only siberys shards, I think."
stouthammer says, "heh. I knew it was tUNDRA"
arch_lich says, "?would they also have crystal body pieces in that case?"
keith_baker says, "Saurenda: Prophecy info is not something I can explain in this forum. Sorry!"
lord_conservative says, "that would be cool"

lord_conservative says, "Keith, can you give us a little info on Drow religious practices and culture? I imagine them being very different from FR drow because Lolth doesn't exist in Eberron."
keith_baker says, "Southern Oracle -- an artificer does not need a divine focus to use infusions."
baloo says, "Tides in D&D don't depend on the moon/s. Gravity in D&D is binary - either it's there, or it's not. The moon doesn't exert any gravitational pull on the planet."
evilsohn says, "well it's almost 3:30 AM over here, so good night everybody and thanks for the info Keith"

keith_baker says, "As for the warforged, I can't say what the Inspired think, but the kalashtar are very concerned about where warforged souls are coming from."

wizo_bastion says, "Next question, Shqua go ahead"
shqua says, "I want to turn some more esoteric spells (read: non-attack spells) into living spells. Do you have any suggestions for how to approach that? Specifically, what kinds of things would happen with, say, a Living Prestidigitation?"
shqua says, "Side note: In the campaign I'm running, I'm sending my PC's into a warforged factory that has been ravaged by a Living Disable Construct. Shh... don't tell."
keith_baker says, "Well, living spells normally have to have an area of effect. They are also solid masses -- so a living silence is a big blob that silences you as it squashes you. For something like prestidigitation, I think it would be more fun for it to be incorporeal."
docoperon runs in terror from 'living goodberry'

keith_baker says, "No."
keith_baker says, "One last thought..."

keith_baker says, "*shrug* It's not the standard model. Elementals and living spells are very different in nature. But if you've got a mad artificer who's found a way to bind living spells, I won't say you can't do it."

shqua says, "!"
wizo_bastion says, "Shqua, your comment"
shqua says, "Just out of curiosity: What spell?"
manzella says, "ok I was just curious, thanks"
keith_baker says, "But I wouldn't use Bind Elemental to do it. It would need to be a special case."
keith_baker says, "ga"
manzella says, "I used Darkbolt to have a ring of black flame"
shqua says, "Ah."

wizo_bastion says, "OK, Ulari, your turn"
ulari says, "KB: love the book, does the articifer need to roll a umd to use a device he created everytime he uses it or only on the ones he finds everytime?"
keith_baker says, "Every time, assuming that it's a spell trigger item. UMD is used to do the spell trigger."
keith_baker says, "Ulari -- if it's not a spell trigger/completion item, he doesn't need UMD."
keith_baker says, "ga"

stouthammer says, "?"
xzu_seton says, "does a warforged Barbarian get a penelty for Rage when it is over ? They don't get tired"
wizo_bastion says, "Xzu, I will call on you in a moment"
xzu_seton smacks her/his lips.
lord_conservative says, "eh...what does 'ga' mean?"
wizo_bastion says, "(/ga means go ahead)"
wizo_blue says, "(Go Ahead)"
lord_conservative says, "oh. i feel stupid.."
arch_lich says, "!"
wizo_bastion says, "Ok, the queue for questions is baloo, ethedral, shqua, xzu, and stouthammer"
gamashinoch me too
wizo_blue says, "(shush plz)"
gaerfindel says, "And me!"
wizo_bastion says, "So first up, 2nd round, Baloo"
keith_baker says, "Go baloo!"
baloo says, "Is the adventure trilogy "it" as far as Eberron adventures are concerned, or will there be more later? WOTC doesn't seem very interested in doing adventures in general..."
keith_baker says, "I don't know, Baloo. I'm not part of the decision-making process."
keith_baker says, "ga"

ulari says, "thanks,! xzu yes, treat it as an over exertion like the reason that they have to med. for 8 hrs to regain spells"
baloo says, "ga"
arch_lich says, "?"
xzu_seton says, "does a warforged Barbarian get a penelty for Rage when it is over ? They don't get tired! /ga"
wizo_bastion says, "(arch lich will be the last, since we only have a few minutes left)"
wizo_bastion says, "Xzu, you are after 2 others please wait"
wizo_bastion says, "Ethedral, your turn"
wizo_bastion says, "not here, then Shqua"
wizo_bastion says, "Shqua did you have another question?"

shqua says, "Mine isn't actually a rules question. I was just wondering if you were going to be at GenCon."
shqua says, "(Either that, or I had a rules question and forgot it.)"
keith_baker says, "Yes, I will be."
shqua says, "Okay. Thanks. ga"
keith_baker says, "I'll be doing lots of stuff at the WotC booth. :) /ga"

wizo_bastion says, "Ok Xzu, now its your go, that Barbarian question"
xzu_seton says, "does a warforged Barbarian get a penelty for Rage when it is over ? They don't get tired! /ga"
keith_baker says, "A warforged barbarian is not fatigued after rage, which makes it a useful combo. :) /ga"
lord_conservative says, "i've also wondered that for the longest time."

wizo_bastion says, "Stouthammer, your turn :)"
shqua says, "!"
wizo_bastion says, "shqua, your comment"
shqua says, "Just while we're on the topic, I wanted to thank whoever on the creative team who added all the cool feats for barbarians. :D"

thwarten says, "?"
stouthammer says, "I was just wondering about conductor stones. If someone removed a chunk of land with a conductor stone in it, would it derail the lightning train? If not, how many stones would need to be removed? And can they even be removed?"
keith_baker says, "Stouthammer, this is covered in more detail on the Ask Keith thread on the boards, just so you can see the various issues."

xzu_seton says, "thanks Keith has answered me sorry my screen screwed up damn chat /ga"
shqua says, "(Crap, now I remembered my question from earlier. It was the follow-up one.)"

wizo_bastion says, "Gaerfindel, your turn"
gaerfindel says, "RE: Lightning Rail - Might it be possible to hijack a train by opening a dimentional gate during a planar convergence? /ga"
keith_baker says, "Yes, it would stop the train -- it wouldn't necessarily be a violent derailing."
keith_baker says, "Hmm."
gaerfindel says, "But if there's no rail on the other side...?"
gaerfindel says, "ga"
keith_baker says, "That would be the issue. The train would probably just stop at the gate, since the "rail" stops at the gate. /ga"

wizo_bastion says, "And finally Arch Lich has our last question this evening, go ahead AL"
arch_lich says, "Could a Psi warforge benefit from psychometabolic powers the same way it would from Conjuration (Healing) spells? ga"
keith_baker says, "If you mean things like Body Adjustment, I'd say sure, but treat it as a healing effect (50%)."
keith_baker says, "Does that answer the question?"

wizo_bastion says, "I'm sorry we are out of time, we are taking no more questions this evening. However, there is a thread on the Wizards boards where Keith usually answers, if you need them check it out. I hope all of you have had a good time and maybe some insight into Eberron :) Thanks Keith, wonderful book"
arch_lich says, "Thats what I ment what about the other abilitys?"
arch_lich says, "ok"
keith_baker says, "Thanks everyone!"
gaerfindel says, "Bye all!"
splendide says, "Thanks Keith and Wizos"
wizo_bastion says, "Have a great night everyone!"

hanuman47 says, "During a recent chat session, one of the designers (forgot which one, sorry) said something about a calendar/chart of the lunar cycles and planar cycles being available soon.
/ga" Actually I have an answer for this ... sorry I couldn't come to the chat... anyway ... it is an electronic javascript calculator/orrery that lets you see the position of the planes, and the phases of each moon based on the date you put into the calculator... There were some last minute changes and I simply didn't have time to work out two bugs before I had to start on a much larger project. Luckily that other project is almost done and I can finish the calculator.

I suppose I could give you guys a sneak peak at it. So here are the url's ... I would suggest downloading the zip file as the program is prety haevy on number of graphics so it seems to work better on a local machine.

http://www.wizards.com/dnd/ec/index.htm

http://www.wizards.com/dnd/ec/ec.zip

The bugs are that Kythri can sometimes go completely wacky and just start jumping around. And the moon phases before the year -2202 are inverted ... For anyone poking around the code, it is prety sloppy right now, I code very stream of conciousness then go back and organize everything.

There are buttons all over the place, you can even change the languages the calendars display in. And there is a printable calendar in there for DM's. The moon phases can be shown by moon for the month or all phases for that moon for the year. There is even an autorun function that lets you watch the changing of the planes and phases of the moons one day at a time. There are also buttons to skip forward or back a month or year at a time.

The moons are organized closest at the top and farthest at the bottom. The closest orbit is 28 days and each farther pout moon has a 7 day longer orbit than the previous one. And yes based on least common denominator there is a day when they are all full at the same time... although it hasn't happened for a long time and won't again for several thousand years.

The planes have preset starting spots that place most of them waxing and prety much evenly between having been remote and becoming coterminous. I'm planning to add a simple tutorial for DM's so thay can alter the starting point of the planes for their home campaign.

Remember this is all in testing and who knows if we will change anything before officially posting this. I may only leave this up for a few days and the final url will change so I would appreciate people not linking to it.

Click around and see what it does, please let me know if you find anything that seems wrong or out of wack.

Thanx

MJ

Sometimes some of the numbers seem to run backward.

In particular I'm looking at 956 YK, Zarantyr 6 has Lammannia as 2 days til coterminous, but moving forward from there that number goes up. In fact all of the 'X days until remote/coterminous' seem to be going up, rather than down.

Just a heads up, if you're looking at bugs.

Thanks, Wotc_Mark! After all the time it took me to do a two-moon calendar, I'm glad someone worked this out.

It's interesting that Kythri, the Plane of Chaos hops around. Perhaps not a bug at all, but a reflection of a deeper truth!
