So, anyone want to suggest some good words for common swears or curses in Khorvaire?

While the game I'm in is currently in Aundair/Eldeen, I think it'd be good to float some filthy language for the rest of the Five Nations and beyond. :)

While being aware of the filters, let's consider the obvious situations:

Something offensive to say to someone.
Something to say when you stump your toe.
Explinetives for emphasis, or assisting in expression.
Something to say when you're awed/surprised.
Something harsh to say to your (potentially non-human) enemies that sounds badass when you do so.

I like "Six and Sovereign!" as a kind of "Oh my god!" expletive.

And then there is "Twelve bloody moons!" which should be painfully familiar to anyone that has read the Dragon Below series.

Thranes (and by extension, all Purified) might use "darkened" in place of "damned". This could work of Kalashtar, as well.

You could also use something like:

* Damm Six! (when you stump your toe)
* For the flame! (a Silver Flame beliver when is awed/surprised)
* Your grandfather was a giant-lover! (if you want to be offensive to a Valenar)

For my Lyrandar heir:

"Lyran's (fill in the blank)" (frustration, agitation, surprise)
...or alternatively,
"Sweet Firstborn!"

I think I may have used "Six and the Nine!" in my book. And I know I used "Unholy Six!"

These things sound silly out of context, but I think they work. I think curses tend toward the religious, because curses tend to sound most effective when they're blasphemous.

Also, I think Ed Bolme may have used "Khyber's Codpiece" in Bound By Iron. Also ridiculous, but slang and expletives don't follow the rules.

Oooh. I think the swashbuckler could find a good use for "Khyber's codpiece".

"Khyber's Codpiece" is radical!

There are the shifter curse from one of the novels that go like:

"By Grandfather wolfs fur!"
"By Grandmother Rats Tail"
and so on.

I have always liked the idea of curses using one of the given deities and thier various body parts.

"By Kol Korran's foot"

"By the swinging sac of Dol Dorn"

"By The Keepers Claw"

"By the Travelers tooth"

And so on

Some I've used,

Adjective "Six damned _____" Sort of like the phrase "God forsaken _____"

Exclamation "Keeper's ass!" Why? I don't know it just rolled off the tongue at the time.

Would "Go to Dolurrh" work? I find that using real world anachronism works better (plus the word "Hell" is used as a curse in "The Forge of War" flavour text).

For "Go to hell" I substitute "Keeper take you."

I use "By the Hosts!" and "Keeper's Balls!" a fair amount in my games. "Bloody Khyber!" isn't bad either.
