I was wondering what kind of holidays the people of Khorvare would celebrate as a whole.

I picture there being something of a "Columbus day" celebrating the migration of the first humans to the continent. I figure there is also a day where the end of the Last War is celebrated as well as various country specific "independence days" where places like Valenar, and Darguun celebrate the formation of their nations.

Any other ideas for holidays?

Sharn: City of Towers should include some Sharn holidays, i've been told.

Human colonisation of Khorvaire dates back so far that most people don't even realise they're not native to Khorvaire (this is mentioned somewhere in the book), so a colonisation day is unlikely. Most nations will likely celebrate the anniversary of the Treaty of Thronehold (11th day of 11th month, as I recall) as both the end of the Last War and the official recognition of their countries' sovereignty. There's likely a memorial day (Cyre Day?) on the anniversary of the Mourning.

It's quite possible that there's some form of Union Day that celebrates the forming of the Empire of Galifar (maybe even a major feast holiday along the lines of Christmas), though that may have fallen out of favour in recent years.

Aside from that, I think it's mentioned that the Ring of Syberis waxes in summer and wanes in winter, so you could have a Siberys Day on the summer solstice. Also, each major religion probably has its own holidays - the Sovereign Host's will likely be considered national holidays in Breland, Aundair and maybe Karrnath, whilst Thrane will have its own for the Silver Flame, the major one commemorating the events that created the Flame.

It's possible that the Dragonmarked Houses also have their own holidays - it's been mentioned that there are particular ceremonies designed to help Heirs to manifest and advance their dragonmarks, and these would probably be annual, and followed by some sort of 'graduation' ceremony.

The sourcebook includes a number of religious and secular holidays, some of which are unique to Sharn but many of which would be observed across Khorvaire. So it should at least give you something to think about.

I would think a holiday for each dragonmarked house. A Founders Day type holiday.

Maybe even War Forge celebrating a day for their race. :D

I bet the elves would celebrate days of the dead. Even more so on Aerenel. Like the mexican halloween with the ancestors comming to visit, and the children running around as the deceased with skull masks. Then again that sounds like a normal day on the island.

As for the warforged day, I imagine that being more promonent with the followers of the Lord of Blades. The idea of celebrating a day anually could be difficult for many to grasp with there awkward assosiation with the natural life forms. For that matter I imagine a warforged holiday being quite alien to us for the lack of food, drink, and so on. Things that probably would seem without purpose to them.

I don't think the Warforged has a holiday, they probably don't even understand the concept of a holiday.

I've not read the whole book yet, but where do you get this idea? I'm under the impression that the warforged are as conscious as everyone else.

(This has significance because in my Adventure, I plan on the players celebrating one of the warforged's birthdays)

They are conscious as everyone else, that is true.

But the ECS also say that the Warforged are new to the world, and not used to the norms of the other races.

Look at the name section about them, like they just now is about to understand the whole meaning of names, i don't think they can understand Holidays.

Valenar elves would almost certainly celebrate the birth of their patron ancestor, and mourn the day of death.

Actually, provided it was a glorious death, they might celebrate it as well.

Very good point. I'm going to keep that one in mind.

The Silver Flame probably celebrates the day the coualt, the demon and the voice of the flame all joined together.

It would be the Day of Mouring for the destruction of Cyre. I would think that some would use it as an opportunity to remind everyone about the horrors of the Last War and to public(verbally) attack warmongers. Several adventure ideas here. The one I like is having the PCs go into to Mournland to retrieve the body of a Carcass Crab that will displayed during by the day of Mourning by some group another

If there wasn't some day dedicated to King Galifar (King's Day or similar) I would be amazed.

What day of the year was the Day of the Mourning? I think it was in my City of Towers novel, but I loaned it to a friend and I can't find any reference to the actual date of the Mourning in the ECS.

thanks,

What day of the year was the Day of the Mourning? The Day of Mourning was the 20th of Olarune, 994 YK.
If anything, I think this would be the main holiday of the Warforged. The destruction of their birthplace, the only thing they could have potentially called their homeland.
