Instead, it's front page material! Extra Extra, read all about it! Dire Ape Nabs Woman, Scales Sharn! And think of all the info the PC's can research: "hmmm, it seems that this story about kidnapped shifters might have something to do with last weeks animal attack story..." And finally we can get a new cliche for "how the party met." No more "you are all sitting in a tavern and meet each other." Instead it's "You all answered a personal ad..." Yep, a personal ad. It's the greatest innovation to D&D plot devices since "you were all thrown in jail together," and it's a great way to find specialized services/items. I can see it now: SWF (Single Warforged Fighter) looking for GAM (Genuine Artificer Master) for expert services. Top money paid for enchanted weapons attachments. No fatties. GWM (Gnomish War Mage) seeks similar for adventure. Enjoys treasure hunting, dungeon-delving, and long walks on the beach. Cleric with healing domain a plus! We are an adventurous trio (Wizard, Fighter, and Cleric) seeking able-bodied rogue. Must be skillful with detecting and disabling traps. No klutzes need apply. Are you a halfling or gnome who hates goblins? Small-sized goblin-bane mace for sale. Owner is medium, will sell for cheap! $$$$Top Gold For Non-Metalic Magic Armor$$$$ I am in need of a suit of armor; must be non-metal: dragon-scale or darkleaf breastplate preferred; "wild" feature a plus! No Fatties! |

The problem with tabloids in a D&D world is that the headline "Mysterious Monster Mocks Muffins!" could very well be true. But one that features "People-esque" paparrazzi-style celebrity hunting would be fantasic! "Orien Heir's Dragonmark a Fraud!" or "Kundarak Twins Shock Party-Goers!" And how about a divination-themed publication, perhaps monthly, featuring divinatory forcasts about a variety of events? |
