Korranberg Chronicle reporter.. [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-23-06, 02:48 AM I'm introducing a new NPC in my campaign the next time we play... a female reporter from the Korranberg Chronicle, who will be a recurring character (that might occasionally join my two PCs on an adventure here and there).

Thing is, though I have her personality in mind and some character background ideas... I'm having a difficult time nailing the actual class build I'd like to use for her.

I'm looking for a class (or combo of classes) that's fitting for a Chronicle reporter yet a bit different than your standard, run of the mill Bard. :)

Archivist jumped to mind... handy to a group and fitting to an extent - but I already have a key Archivist NPC and I kinda wanted something different.

Any opinions/suggestions? :)

(She'll start out being level 8, but I like to plan ahead for her to evolve)

09-23-06, 04:13 AM Begulier has gather info, decipher script, diplomacy, Know (local), Sense motive, and speak language as in class skills.

High Int + sneaky and social. 6 skill points a level.

Interesting spell list.

Not a bard, but has alot in common. Will not overshadow the PC, but could survive "undercover" investigations.

I could see being a Begulier/reporter.

Eh, higher level NPCs like that are rather rare from what I've read in Dragonshards and the ECS. I'd go for Expert levels instead, maybe 1 or 2 levels of bard. A level 8 beguiler, or even bard, would likely be running or in a high position in the Chornicle and probably wouldn't be doing to much field work.

I agree with the expert levels. I'd expect that almost all reporters that are likely to appear in a significant role in an adventure will have mostly expert levels. They might have a few levels of other classes (even maybe PC classes), with bard, rogue and commoner levels probably predominating.

In fact, the only reporters I think that would likely have PC classes would be PCs. Any other NPCs with PC classes would likely gravitate to different roles than reporters. Maybe, a reporter who is a rival for the PCs might have largely PC levels (the guy who follows them around trying to catch them in compromising situations, or is trying to beat the PCs to the Maguffin).

The other exception would be the reporter who isn't a reporter. The spy who has a cover of a reporter, and pretends not to be something special.

09-23-06, 02:31 PM Unless you have yourself Hunter S Thompson or Spider Jerusalem as an NPC, I'd think most reporters have NPC classes. Unless you plan on having her be in combat I don't even see why you'd need her stats at all really.

09-23-06, 04:01 PM An expert with a few levels in the Master Inquisitive might work well, as it would allow her to get the tough story that others have been unable to.
