| Wudwaen08-24-04, 01:00 PM | I am certain there are little bits and pieces to be revealed in little modules here and there to come out at $10 to astronomical dollars a piece over the next 7 millenia of my enjoying Eberron. However, I have become frustrated with an aspect of the ECS. My beloved nation of Cyre is indeed a ghost. It has a carcasse and a name. Beyond that we can find the names of a few buildings. If we look to Talenta, Darguun, and Valenar we almost get a glympse of other Cyran places my people might have been from before the war. Alass, the magic the destroyed their homeland of these fine servants of their king and country also obliterated their memories. Not a tree can be envisioned, not a hill or valley can be found, not a stream of dallyance can be delightfully dangled in the mind's of my good men. For you see there is no map or pre-Mourning Day Cyre to give us names of homes, or places of interest, or the things of pride that a person would remember and about which a character would find their sorrows, dreams, and nightmares made. LOL. Would it ruin someone's afternoon to give us this? :D |

LOL. Would it ruin someone's afternoon to give us this? :D Well as I envision Cyre, and there are a few Npcs in my campaign who talk about it regularly, usually soup it up to being thier sort of modern day atlantis/xen'drik. It's wrong to think of it as the greatest civilization there ever was, espically if they deed indeed blow themselves to Kyber, but it has been noted as the shinning jewel in the Galifarian Crown. You can see it as one of the other nations or truly as the greatest of them all. To be honest one of my players saw it as you are now, and even went so far to ask for "ghost walk" campgain setting's ghostly city which disappears and reappears. the citizens of Cyre go about thier daily businesses not knowing they are dead and bound by the grey mist which surrounds thier boarders. Also anyone killed in the Mournlands would have thier soul go here and become a ghost. Features of cities in Cyre? Well I don't got my book on me, but there was a mention that each area had a dsitinct style of architecture. Cyre most likely took a lot of desgins from Xen'drik and revamped them into Greek or Roman like desgins. I would expect to see columns, like the Romans, and even flat enlarged many steped buildings like the aztecs/xen'drik. I would not think of Cyre a military state, as warforged and a variety of other devices fought for thier people constantly. So most of the temples and buildings main purpose would be well carved stone, primarily pink/white stone from the Cannith house, and also some smaller towers than those use to seeing in Sharn. Decorations and gardens would be a necesity in Cyrian city in residential districts. Nothing to make it feel sterile even if they plants and atmosphere were kept magically stable. That about all I can come up with. WOW boards changed and all posts gone Oo; Sad. |
| Gilgiga of the Hunt08-30-04, 09:19 PM | Could leave it up to DM speculation. Or perhaps just a mini suplement, but don't hold your breath wating for it. |
| Wudwaen08-31-04, 12:10 PM | Their might be supplements at some point in the future. We will have to rely on either that possibilty or something we can download and use out of the net. I am not afraid of stating as a consumer when a corporation has dropped the ball or made a mistake. Keith is the ideas man, so this final decision does not rest with him, and he has done a fantastic job. I can remain critical as a consumer and voice that criticism. The "good gaming" sentiment doesn't make up for or correct the product. Yes, we can imagine all sorts of things. Many of us will. In the case of Sembia, of the Greyhawk Campaign, we knew from the start it was never going to be fleshed out and was for our use to do with as we pleased. This makes no sense with pre-Day of Mourning Cyre. The storyline is too tight in everyother facet of the setting to bore a hole right behind the pivotal point in history and say, "Ooops, Guess!" We know that one royal scion was in Breland, because he is written up in Breland, but nothing about terrain and features before we were left with two ruined city scapes and a module discussing a valley with no location, raids from Valenarian Elves from the other side of Darguun, and a Cannith laboratory on the border of Darguun, Valenar, and possibly Talenta. The mapping is beautiful, but extremely inspecific in all of the new materials to the point of being meaningless. Even for determining weather activity, in Greyhawk, I could build tables off real world data and apply that data to the hex grid numbers using die rolls to match climate type etc. Not so with any modern campaign - including Eberron. Now we are getting to where we can't even get locations of importance for developing the story and relating it with materials that are going to be published and printed. Perhaps next we will simply get hardbound blank pages with a logo on the front cover. That should run an extra $10 for creative opportunity - say $45 American. Wudwaen PS. Yes, I got up a bit cranky. However, this is a good project that shouldn't have crittical errors like this. And this one glows like the mournland. |
