| Pallis07-25-05, 08:36 AM | As mentioned in SotLW, a landcart with a bound elemental melds with the ground as a form of propulsion. Which is fair enough, but exactly what damage is left by the landcart's passing (if any), and would this form of transport be allowed on the Orien trade roads? I'm imagining chewed up ground left in the landcart's wake...kinda like the burrowing trails left by Bugs Bunny in a Loony Tunes cartoon. Wierd...help me shake this Acme/Eberron hybrid thought... ;) |
| TheShark(tm)07-25-05, 10:12 AM | Normally a cart will leave ruts in the ground, but in this case I think it would be keen if it left inverted ruts. Two thin and straight columns of dirt where the cart passed. :thinks: |

Wierd...help me shake this Acme/Eberron hybrid thought... ;) None. It says that it melds slightly with the ground, and then skims along like a ship through water. When a creature uses the spell meld with earth they don't leave any damage to the area that they melded to. A ship doesn't leave any lasting effect on the water that it passes through. You can, of course, houserule that it has any side-effect that you want, but basically, I don't think that it's intended to have any. |
| MarkB07-25-05, 11:48 AM | The impression I had was that the land cart left no visible trail (thus Garrow's use of other means to track the party), but if you want it to, it could - since it 'flows' over the land, it might be cool for it to leave a wake, like that of a small boat, only fixed in place. |
| Bluebrush07-25-05, 01:47 PM | And it might not have been intended for use on Orien trade roads. If anything, a cart which ignores ground-based obsticles would be ideal for going where there are no roads. Also note that it seems to bea unique experimental model. You won't see many. |

| Full Quiver07-25-05, 06:04 PM | The carts don't leave trails because they use earth elementals. Earth elementals have the earth glide ability. "Earth Glide (Ex): An earth elemental can glide through stone, dirt, or almost any other sort of earth except metal as easily as a fish swims through water. Its burrowing leaves behind no tunnel or hole, nor does it create any ripple or other signs of its presence. " from the srd. so just make sure your carts have seat belts and handles when you decide to run it up the side of a castle or a sharn tower! |
| TheShark(tm)07-25-05, 06:23 PM | Dang. :waits: But now that it's out there, the idea of leaving inverted ruts appeals to me. Come to think of it, the things on this thread have a 'feel' that I really like for Eberron. Inverted ruts and a wake. Why not? Just as long as you're consistent, I think something of the sort wouldn't break any sort of playability boundry and might just make them a bit more interesting. |
| Bluebrush07-25-05, 07:18 PM | If you were wondering about how someone might track such a vehicle, then it could always leave marks of it's passing in the objects around it. For instance, torn grass blades where the wheels pass, broken branches on small bushes, split piles of small disguarded trash on the road. Etc. |
